The HP OfficeJet Pro 9125e is a capable home or small-office printer for sharp everyday documents, with copying, scanning, faxing, duplex printing, and an automatic document feeder. It is less convincing for photo printing, and its cartridge restrictions matter: HP says non-HP-chip cartridges can be blocked. HP’s US shop currently labels the model discontinued, though retailer stock may remain. Consider it if you find a suitable unit at a sensible price and accept HP’s ink terms; look elsewhere if photo quality, unrestricted ink choices, or long-term model availability is a priority.
What the OfficeJet Pro 9125e offers
The 9125e is a color inkjet all-in-one aimed at home and small-business use. It prints, copies, scans, and faxes, and includes automatic duplex printing, wireless and Ethernet connectivity, and support for the HP app, according to HP’s US product page.

Paper handling is practical for a small office: HP lists a 250-sheet input tray and a 35-sheet automatic document feeder (ADF). The ADF can help with multi-page jobs, although independent testing raises a scan-alignment concern discussed below.
How fast and capable is it?
HP rates the printer at up to 22 pages per minute (ppm) for black and 18 ppm for color in ISO-comparable mode. Its support specifications also quote up to 32 ppm in general-office mode. These are manufacturer figures, not independent measurements, and actual rates vary with print mode, connection, document, and other conditions. For context, HP recommends a monthly volume of up to 1,500 pages and gives a maximum monthly duty cycle of 25,000 pages; that maximum is a robustness rating, not a recommended ongoing workload. See HP’s support specifications.

RTINGS identifies the 9125e as the US regional member of the 9120e family. Its review, initially published March 6, 2024 and updated on September 25, 2026, reports sharp document output and high page yield, but also slower color printing. It found black-text printing faster over USB than over wireless. Those are RTINGS’ test observations, not results from this article’s own testing. Read RTINGS’ review.
Print and scan quality: documents first, photos second
Everyday documents
For text and typical office documents, the main appeal is crisp output paired with copying, faxing, and scanning in one machine. Multiple connection options give you a choice between network convenience and a wired USB workflow; RTINGS’ testing specifically reports faster black-text printing over USB than wireless.

Photos and color work
RTINGS reports a limited color range and grainy photos with lost fine detail. That makes the 9125e a better fit for forms, reports, and occasional color graphics than for photo printing where subtle tones and detail matter.
ADF scanning
RTINGS also reports crooked scans from the ADF. If you regularly digitize multi-page documents where straight alignment is important, treat this as a meaningful drawback and consider whether you can use the flatbed instead.

Ink: cartridge family, yield, and restrictions
Check the cartridge family for your region
For US buyers, HP lists four HP 936 cartridges: black, cyan, magenta, and yellow. HP’s US product specifications give approximate yields of 1,250 pages for black and 800 pages for each color cartridge; actual yield varies materially with content and use. HP also lists 936e EvoMore options, but availability can change. The UK product listing refers to HP 937 cartridges instead, so do not assume the US cartridge family applies elsewhere. Check the printer’s packaging and the regional HP listing before buying supplies. See HP’s US product page and HP’s support specifications.
HP’s quoted yields are estimates, not guaranteed results for every workload. RTINGS reports roughly 1,400 black-and-white pages and about half as many color pages in its page-yield discussion. That figure comes from the reviewer’s testing and should not be treated as an HP guarantee or a like-for-like promise for every user.

Dynamic security and HP+
HP says the printer uses dynamic security to block cartridges without a new or reused HP chip, and that firmware updates may maintain the restrictions or block cartridges that previously worked. In HP’s words, “This printer is intended to work only with cartridges that have a new or reused HP chip, and it uses dynamic security measures to block cartridges using a non-HP chip.” That is important if your buying decision depends on using third-party cartridges.

HP says activating it requires an HP account, an ongoing internet connection, and exclusive use of Original HP Ink for the printer’s life. The printer is also eligible for HP Instant Ink, but subscription prices, offers, and terms can change; check the current terms directly before deciding whether the service fits your print volume.

Who should consider it—and who should look elsewhere?
- Consider it if you mainly print documents, need copy/scan/fax functions, value duplex printing and a 35-sheet ADF, and are comfortable buying the region-correct HP cartridges.
- Look elsewhere if photo detail and color range matter, if a crooked ADF scan would disrupt your workflow, or if you want freedom to use cartridges without HP chips.
- Check alternatives carefully if speed, paper capacity, or a currently supported model is more important than this particular combination of features.
In RTINGS’ comparisons, the HP OfficeJet Pro 9015e is described as faster and better at photo detail; the 8135e lacks the same duplex scanning but avoids the cited crooked-scan issue; and the Epson EcoTank Pro ET-5850 is described as faster, with better output in that comparison and a 550-sheet tray. These are RTINGS’ comparative judgments, not universal results, and each model’s current regional availability and specifications should be checked before purchase. RTINGS’ comparison details.
Availability and what to check before buying
HP’s US shop currently labels the 9125e “Discontinued.” That does not establish that every retailer is out of stock: remaining inventory may still be available, including used or refurbished units. The manufacturer page also notes that availability can change and that its terms apply to HP.com. Because a current price and local cartridge costs are not established here, compare the actual seller’s price with the ink expense you expect for your own print mix rather than assuming a particular cost per page.
- Confirm whether the unit is new, used, or refurbished.
- Check the seller’s warranty, return window, and included supplies.
- Verify the cartridge family for your region before ordering ink.
- Decide whether HP+ conditions and dynamic-security restrictions fit how you plan to use the printer.
HP says the printer uses 40% recycled plastic; that is HP’s product-page claim, not an independent lifecycle assessment.
