The HP EliteBook 8 G2a 16 is a strong productivity laptop in the specific Ryzen AI 7 450 configuration tested by Notebookcheck: it delivered stable sustained performance and nearly 19 hours in the publication’s controlled Wi-Fi test. Its main drawbacks are loud fans under load and soldered memory in that review unit. Because HP sells versions with different RAM and displays, those findings do not automatically apply to every G2a 16.
Which EliteBook 8 G2a 16 did Notebookcheck review?
Notebookcheck’s September 21, 2026 review covers the HP EliteBook 8 G2a 16 DL9T9ET#ABD. It is a 16-inch business laptop with an AMD Ryzen AI 7 450, integrated Radeon 860M graphics, 32 GB of dual-channel LPDDR5-7500 memory, a 1 TB PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD, and a 77 Wh battery. The review unit’s display is a matte 1920 × 1200 IPS panel. Notebookcheck’s review identifies these as details of its test machine, not universal specifications for the product family.

The tested configuration also includes Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4, a 5 MP IR webcam, Windows 11 Pro, a backlit keyboard with number pad, and a metal chassis. Notebookcheck lists two Thunderbolt 4 ports, HDMI, and USB-A. Optional 5G hardware is listed, but it should not be assumed to be present on every retail configuration.
How fast is the Ryzen AI 7 450 for work?
The Ryzen AI 7 450 in the reviewed laptop has eight cores and 16 threads: four Zen 5 cores with boost speeds up to 5.1 GHz and four Zen 5c cores up to 3.6 GHz. HP’s support specifications also list 50 NPU TOPS for Ryzen AI 7 450 options. Those are processor specifications, not a guarantee that every application will run faster; HP notes that performance and frequency vary with workload and configuration.

- Adaptive thermals: Built-in technology allows your PC to sense when it's on a stable surface and adjusts its power and thermals to run more efficiently.
In Notebookcheck’s tests, the laptop maintained sustained performance without throttling, and the chassis stayed cool. The review describes a 28 W TDP processor and 30 W sustained and short-burst platform limits for its tested configuration. Its Best Performance and Balanced modes retained those 30 W limits, while Best Power Efficiency used 25 W. These measured settings may differ with firmware or configuration.
For office applications, web work, communications, and other productivity workloads, the reviewed configuration has ample performance and memory. The integrated Radeon 860M is better suited to everyday graphics and some older games than demanding workstation graphics tasks. Buyers who need substantial graphics acceleration should not treat this as a workstation-class GPU laptop.
How long does the battery last?
Notebookcheck measured almost 19 hours in its Wi-Fi/web-surfing test at 150 cd/m² on the review unit. This is a controlled lab result, not a promise of all-day runtime under any workload: screen settings, applications, wireless use, and the particular configuration affect battery life.
Is 32 GB enough, and can you upgrade the RAM?
For the reviewed unit, the 32 GB is soldered and cannot be upgraded. Notebookcheck reports that the SSD, Wi-Fi card, and 5G card in that model are modular, but that does not make its system memory replaceable.
Other EliteBook 8 G2a 16 product numbers have different memory designs. HP US listings show configurations with two SODIMM slots and either 32 GB (1 × 32 GB) or 64 GB (2 × 32 GB) of DDR5-5600. HP Ireland’s DX6E8AT listing specifies 24 GB (1 × 24 GB) DDR5-5600 with two slots. The family name alone therefore cannot tell you whether RAM is soldered or upgradeable.
Before buying, check the full product number and its specification page. If you need more memory later, choose a SKU whose documentation explicitly lists SODIMM slots; if you choose the reviewed LPDDR5 configuration, plan on using its installed 32 GB for the laptop’s life.
Do all versions have the same display?
No. The review unit has a matte 1920 × 1200 IPS panel, but HP’s listings show meaningful differences between regional SKUs:

Compare the exact SKU’s resolution, brightness, color coverage, and touch support before ordering. A brighter, wider-gamut panel in one listing is not evidence that every G2a 16 includes it.

What are the main drawbacks?
Fans become loud under load
Notebookcheck’s clearest day-to-day caveat is fan noise in performance mode when the laptop is working hard. That matters in quiet rooms or during sustained demanding tasks, even though the review reports stable performance and a cool chassis.
Graphics are for lighter workloads
The integrated Radeon 860M is appropriate for ordinary productivity and modest graphics use, not a substitute for a discrete GPU in demanding 3D, workstation, or modern gaming workloads.
Configuration shopping takes care
RAM construction and display quality vary across product numbers and regions. Confirm the precise memory type and slots, panel specifications, storage, and wireless options on the listing you intend to buy.

Is the Ryzen 7 version worth it?
The Ryzen AI 7 450 review configuration is compelling if your priority is strong sustained productivity performance with 32 GB of memory, and the tested battery result is especially notable. Whether it is worth its price depends on the exact regional SKU and what it includes: compare processor, upgradeable memory needs, SSD capacity, display, wireless options, warranty or security bundle, and current price for the same market and product number.
Price figures are not directly interchangeable. Notebookcheck’s 2026 review page gives €2,800 as a list price and shows $2,233.29 in the reviewed European configuration context. It also reports around $1,960 on Amazon for a different configuration with Ryzen AI 5 440, 32 GB RAM, and a 512 GB SSD; that is not the Ryzen AI 7 review unit or a verified current checkout price. Check live regional listings before comparing.
How to interpret the review
Notebookcheck’s review is dated September 21, 2026 and reports a 78% average rating and 87% office-weighted average under its own scoring system; these scores are the publication’s assessment, not a universal measure. The review says HP Deutschland supplied the laptop as a loan, while stating the manufacturer had no review authority and received no advance copy. Its battery and performance results should be attributed to Notebookcheck’s tested unit.
HP’s official support specifications list Ryzen AI 7 450 and Ryzen AI 7 PRO 450 options, as well as other Ryzen AI 5 and Ryzen 5 processors. A G2a 16 family name does not by itself establish that a particular listing has the Ryzen AI 7 450, 32 GB configuration, or review-unit behavior. See HP’s processor specifications alongside the exact product-number listing.
