Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsThe HP DeskJet 2923e is a low-cost home all-in-one for light, occasional printing, scanning and copying. Its purchase price is not the main concern. The bigger questions are what ink will cost you over time and whether its modest monthly capacity suits your household. In CHOICE Australia’s comparison, printing quality is “not too bad for the price,” scanning is very good, copying is poor, and ink consumption is the major drawback.
Product names and cartridge codes differ by country. HP’s own pages call this model the HP DeskJet 2923 All-in-One, while CHOICE uses “2923e.” Confirm the exact model and the cartridge family for your region before you buy anything.

What the printer does
HP’s U.S. product listing describes the HP DeskJet 2923 All-in-One as a print, copy and scan device with dual-band Wi-Fi and USB 2.0. It supports HP’s app, Apple AirPrint, Mopria, and Android printing through HP’s Print Service Plugin. These are manufacturer specifications, and the speeds below have not been independently verified in real-world use.

Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →- Rated speed (ISO): up to 7.5 pages per minute in black and 5.5 pages per minute in colour.
- Recommended monthly volume: 50 to 100 pages. HP also lists a 1,000-page monthly duty cycle but says that maximum is not recommended as an ongoing workload.
- Paper input: one 60-sheet tray. Output tray holds 25 sheets.
- Supported media: letter, legal, 4 x 6, 5 x 7 and 8 x 10-inch sizes, plus No. 10 envelopes.
- Scanner: flatbed only, with a maximum scan area of 8.5 x 11.69 inches. There is no automatic document feeder.
- Duplex: manual only.
- Not included: fax, and borderless printing.
Taken together, these limits point to a machine for light, intermittent home tasks: school worksheets, a few letters, the odd scanned form. It is not built for high-volume printing or for workflows that depend on automatic two-sided output or a document feeder.

How it performs, according to CHOICE Australia
The figures and comments in this section come from CHOICE Australia’s comparison page for the Deskjet 2923e. CHOICE reports a 63% Expert Rating and a 68% score for print, scan and copy combined. The page does not show a publication year, so treat these as CHOICE’s Australian assessment at the time it was published, not as a current verdict.
Printing
CHOICE’s editorial comparison says: “But with all that in mind, printing quality isn’t too bad for the price.” That is a value judgement from a comparison article, not a quote from a named reviewer.

- INK FOR YEARS. NOT MONTHS. Up to 2 years of ink included. Get thousands of pages of cartridge-free printing. More pages, less hassle

Scanning
CHOICE describes scanning as very good. Given the flatbed-only design, this is the more reliable strength for document work, since you place each page by hand rather than feeding a stack.
Copying
Copying is where CHOICE is least impressed. Its comparison says copying is “as woeful as its older sibling.” If copying is a regular task for you, weigh this heavily.

Running costs: ink is the trade-off
For this printer, the purchase price is only the first cost. CHOICE’s comparison lists an estimated annual ink or toner cost of $365 AUD, against a listed RRP of $69 AUD. CHOICE says this is lower than for an older comparison model but still excessive. Both figures are Australian and carry no year in the reviewed passage, so do not treat them as current prices or as a universal household bill. Your own cost will depend on how many pages you print, how much colour and coverage each page has, how often the printer runs cleaning cycles, and local cartridge prices.
Cartridge families differ by region
HP’s listings name different cartridges depending on country. The table below compares the U.S. and Ireland listings. Yields are HP’s approximate figures, and HP warns that actual yield varies with page content and other factors.

In the U.S., search for “HP 68 ink cartridges” and check that the listing matches your exact model. In other regions, use the cartridge code printed on HP’s listing for your country. The name “DeskJet 2923” alone does not tell you which cartridge to buy.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Dynamic security and third-party cartridges
HP says this printer uses dynamic security to block cartridges with modified or non-HP circuitry, and that firmware updates can maintain those protections. HP also says cartridges with reused HP circuitry can be reused, remanufactured or refilled. So the right question is not whether a cartridge is third-party, but whether its circuitry is HP’s. Firmware updates may also stop a cartridge that worked before, so check compatibility before updating if you rely on a non-HP option.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Limitations to check before buying
- Duplex: you must flip pages yourself for two-sided printing.
- Borderless photos: not supported. If you print photos, use 4 x 6-inch inkjet photo paper and accept a white margin.
- Document feeding: no automatic document feeder, so multi-page copying and scanning are manual.
- Capacity: the 60-sheet tray and 50 to 100 pages per month recommendation suit occasional use.
- Fax: not offered.
Setup and connection
Wireless is the main connection option, using dual-band Wi-Fi. You do not need a USB cable for wireless printing. HP notes that a USB cable is not included for readers who choose a wired connection, so buy one separately if you plan to connect that way. Mobile printing works with AirPrint on Apple devices, Mopria, and Android through HP’s Print Service Plugin, plus HP’s own app.
Quick Recap
Who this printer suits
- Good fit: households printing occasional documents, scanning forms, and making a few copies, with prints generally kept near 50 to 100 pages a month.
- Poor fit: frequent copiers, anyone who needs automatic two-sided printing or a document feeder, families printing large volumes, and people who want borderless photos.
Checklist before you buy
- Confirm the exact model and country version on the retailer’s listing and HP’s compatibility page.
- Find the cartridge family for that version, such as HP 68 or HP 308.
- Estimate your own monthly pages, and separate colour pages from black-only pages, since ink use differs.
- Compare the cartridge yield against that estimate to see how often you will need to replace cartridges.
- If you copy often, reconsider. CHOICE’s assessment flags copying as a weak point.
