Each feature works differently: memberships offer recurring paid perks, Super Chat and Stickers highlight live-chat support, and Super Thanks lets viewers make a one-time purchase on eligible videos and Shorts. Access depends on YouTube Partner Program (YPP) eligibility, location, channel standing and the rules for each feature.
What YouTube fan funding means
YouTube groups channel memberships, Super Chat, Super Stickers and Super Thanks under its fan-funding features. The tools let viewers pay through YouTube for particular forms of creator interaction or access. They are platform monetization features, not a general-purpose donation system. YouTube describes fan funding as a way to earn extra income while connecting with viewers and building a community. YouTube Commerce Products monetization policies

How the four fan-funding features work
| Feature | When viewers use it | What the viewer gets |
|---|---|---|
| Channel memberships | As a recurring monthly payment | Creator-provided members-only perks, which may include badges, emoji or other goods. |
| Super Chat | During a live stream or Premiere | A paid message highlighted in live chat. |
| Super Stickers | During a live stream or Premiere | A paid animated sticker surfaced in live chat. |
| Super Thanks | On an eligible long-form video or Short | A one-time purchase that displays an animation and lets the buyer post a customizable comment. |
These formats suit different kinds of engagement: recurring community perks, visibility in live chat, or appreciation attached to an eligible video. They do not establish that one feature will earn more than another. See YouTube’s Super Chat and Super Stickers eligibility and availability and Super Thanks information.

At a baseline, creators need to be in YPP, be at least 18, live in a location where the relevant feature is available, and accept and follow the Commerce Product Module and applicable policies. They must also enable each feature in YouTube Studio. Individual tools can have additional channel or content conditions, and availability is not universal. YouTube’s Commerce Products policies
#1 Best Overall
- Dual Plug, No Guesswork: One receiver covers both USB-C and Lightning phones, so it plugs into iPhone or Android and records right away - no adapter, no app, instant pairing.
- Works with Your Case On: The extended plug reaches past most phone cases, so you can film, teach or take a video call without ever taking the case off.
- Easy Automatic Connection: Plug in. Green light. Record. The mic and receiver link up on their own the moment you power them on - no Bluetooth menus, no setup screens, no waiting.
- Clear Voice, Less Noise: The omnidirectional mic catches every word, while the noise-reduction chip and windscreen keep wind and background hum out - your voice stays front and center.
- Stable Wireless Range & Long-Lasting Battery: Enjoy wireless audio that follows you across the studio while filming — no need to stay tethered to your phone. The rechargeable battery carries you from morning vlogs to evening livestreams, so you can focus on the content instead of watching the battery indicator.
Expanded YPP access is not universal
YouTube’s expanded YPP information describes an earlier-access tier in eligible locations: 500 subscribers, three public uploads in the last 90 days, and either 3,000 qualified public watch hours in the last 365 days or 3 million qualified Shorts views in the last 90 days. The page includes memberships and Supers among the features available at that tier. These thresholds depend on rollout and location; they should not be treated as a worldwide guarantee of access. Check the current Earn tab in YouTube Studio and the official expanded YPP requirements for your channel.
Super Thanks has video-level restrictions
Super Thanks is unavailable on age-restricted, unlisted, private, made-for-kids, copyright-claimed or comments-disabled videos and Shorts. It is also unavailable while a live stream or Premiere is live. A channel may be eligible overall while a particular upload is not. Super Thanks eligibility and policy

How to check and turn on the features
- Check eligibility: Open YouTube Studio and review the Earn tab. Eligibility and available features can vary by location and channel.
- Review the terms: Accept the Commerce Product Module and any applicable terms shown for the features you intend to use, and ensure the channel follows YouTube’s relevant policies.
- Enable available features: In YouTube Studio, use the setup controls shown in the Earn area to turn on each feature individually. Follow the current prompts; not every channel will see every feature.
- Check each upload or live event: Confirm the specific video, Short, live stream or Premiere qualifies for the feature you want viewers to use. For Super Thanks, check restrictions such as copyright claims, visibility, audience setting and comments status.
YouTube’s monetization feature setup guide explains how to manage available earning features. Labels and availability can change, so Studio is the practical place to confirm your account’s current options.
How much creators receive
For Super Thanks specifically, YouTube says creators receive 70% of revenue recognized by Google after local sales tax and applicable iOS App Store fees are deducted. YouTube says it currently covers transaction costs such as credit-card fees. This stated share is for Super Thanks; it should not be assumed to describe memberships, Super Chat or Super Stickers. Fan funding versus donations and merchandise
Super Thanks is a YouTube purchase tied to interaction with an eligible video, not a donation or crowdfunding contribution. YouTube explicitly says, “Super Thanks isn’t a crowdfunding or donation tool.” YouTube Giving is a separate nonprofit fundraising feature. Memberships and Supers are also distinct from product sales: YouTube Shopping, product tagging and official branded merchandise are adjacent commerce options, not prerequisites for enabling fan funding. Super Thanks policy · YouTube monetization overview
What fan funding does not require
There is no central physical product required to use YouTube fan-funding features. Merchandise is optional and separate. A microphone, webcam or lighting may help with livestream production, but those are not stated requirements for memberships, Supers or Super Thanks.
