Short answer: YouTube has a documented disclosure and labeling system for AI-generated music. Creators can declare covered AI use in YouTube Studio, music partners can submit GenAI metadata, and viewers may see a “Made with AI” disclosure from several signals. SoundCloud’s published AI guidance takes a rights-and-eligibility approach instead: uploading remains the creator’s responsibility, while SoundCloud for Artists distribution or monetization currently depends on approved AI integrations, licensing evidence and review. SoundCloud’s moderation systems can detect, flag, suspend or remove material, but its reviewed documents do not describe a general viewer-facing AI-audio label equivalent to YouTube’s.
How YouTube and SoundCloud label and moderate AI-generated audio
AI music can enter either service in several forms: a complete track generated from a prompt, a human recording with an AI vocal or instrumental layer, co-written lyrics, or a conventional song paired with AI-generated video. The platform response depends on what was generated, how realistic the result appears, who is submitting it and whether the uploader has the necessary rights.

YouTube’s system is disclosure-led. SoundCloud’s published rules are primarily rights-, licensing- and enforcement-led. That difference matters if you want to publish publicly, distribute through a platform service, or earn money from a track.

When a creator must disclose
YouTube requires creators to disclose AI use when content is meaningfully altered or generated and appears realistic. Its official examples explicitly include AI-generated music. The setting is completed in YouTube Studio during the upload workflow, using the AI-use disclosure option for covered content.

The obligation is not triggered by every algorithm or editing aid. Ordinary production assistance, such as using software to clean noise, correct a minor performance issue or help with routine editing, is treated differently from generating a song, realistic voice or other material that could mislead viewers about what occurred.
What the disclosure does
YouTube’s Help guidance says, “Disclosing AI content won’t limit a video’s audience or impact its eligibility to earn money.” That statement concerns the act of disclosure itself. It does not guarantee that a particular AI-made recording is eligible for monetization: copyright ownership, advertiser-suitability rules, originality requirements and other YouTube policies still apply.
Failing to disclose covered content can have consequences. YouTube may add a label itself, and repeated failure to disclose can lead to additional labels or penalties, including removal or suspension from the YouTube Partner Program.

In most cases, a creator can correct an erroneous automatic label through the AI-use survey in YouTube Studio. YouTube identifies exceptions where the creator cannot simply override the label: content made with YouTube’s own generative tools, content carrying qualifying C2PA metadata, and content labeled after manual review may follow different correction paths.
YouTube’s separate metadata route for music partners
Music partners do not rely only on the ordinary creator upload setting. Their DDEX or CSV deliveries can include a GenAI designation in the metadata:

If a partner omits the value, YouTube treats the status as unknown unless other signals allow it to determine a designation. YouTube may augment a partner’s declaration with additional information, so the delivery field is important but not necessarily the only input.

The examples in YouTube’s partner guidance distinguish the audio from adjacent assets. A human recording with a generated layer can be “Partly Gen AI,” while AI-generated music-video visuals can also be relevant to disclosure even when the underlying audio is human-performed. Partners should therefore classify the elements they deliver rather than assuming that one label covers every asset in a release.

The “Made with AI” disclosure
YouTube’s viewer-facing wording is “Made with AI.” It can appear because the creator disclosed AI use, because the video used YouTube generative AI tools, or because Content Credentials indicate that the entire video was made with AI.
Qualifying C2PA 2.1-or-higher credentials can carry a disclosure forward. That makes provenance metadata significant even when a creator does not manually select the setting for every upload. YouTube can also apply a label proactively through internal detection or review.
Why a label may appear without a creator’s setting
A label is not proof that the uploader voluntarily marked the item. YouTube can associate the disclosure with creator-provided information, its own generative tools, qualifying credentials or platform action. Conversely, an absent visible label should not be treated as proof that no AI was used: partner metadata may be unknown, signals may be inconclusive, or the content may fall outside the covered disclosure examples.
SoundCloud upload rules: rights come first
Uploading is not the same as distribution approval
SoundCloud’s AI help guidance separates ordinary use of the platform from SoundCloud for Artists distribution or monetization. A creator may upload a track, but approval for those artist services is a separate decision with narrower conditions.
For SoundCloud for Artists distribution or monetization, SoundCloud currently says it can approve only content made with its listed AI integration partners. The named integrations are voice-swap, Soundful, FADR, Tuney, tuttii, ACE Studio, AIBeatz, TwoShot, Starmony, Datamind, DreamTonics, Neural Frames, MashApp, Hook, Luma Labs, SampLab, Lemonaide and AudiaLab.

Evidence SoundCloud may request
When submitting relevant work, a creator may need to provide proof of a subscription or the applicable terms of service for the AI tool used. SoundCloud may request additional supporting documentation. Approval is not automatic merely because a tool appears on the list.
The creator remains responsible for owning the content or holding the licenses needed for its use. That responsibility includes samples, lyrics, melodies, generated voices, artwork and any other component in the release. A tool’s terms can grant permission to use an output in one context while restricting resale, distribution, attribution or monetization in another, so the creator must check the terms that applied when the track was made.
SoundCloud’s rules on impersonation and AI training
Unauthorized voice or likeness impersonation
SoundCloud’s Terms of Use prohibit uploading material without the necessary rights. They also prohibit using generative AI to impersonate a person, including that person’s voice or likeness, without authorization. A technically original vocal generated from a prompt can still create a rights problem if listeners are led to believe it is an identifiable performer or if the performer’s identity was used without permission.

Training is a separate issue
The current Terms state that SoundCloud will not use content to train generative AI models intended to replicate or synthesize a person’s voice, music or likeness without explicit opt-in consent. This is a statement about SoundCloud’s own use of uploaded content. It does not create permission for a creator to upload an AI track, use another person’s voice or bypass the licensing conditions for SoundCloud for Artists.
How SoundCloud moderates AI-generated audio
Automated detection and human review
SoundCloud’s Content Moderation and Enforcement Policy says it may use automated and manual tools, including third-party detection for uploaded audio, images and track data. Detected material may be flagged for review or automatically suspended. SoundCloud can remove or restrict content when it violates applicable rules, and the policy describes notice and appeal-related processes.
The policy page identifies January 15, 2024 as its last amendment and states, “SoundCloud does not actively monitor content or the Platform.” SoundCloud’s 2025 Digital Services Act transparency report describes proactive detection of potentially illegal or terms-violating material using AI-driven detection models and human review. These documents use different wording: the policy’s statement is part of its description of platform monitoring, while the later report describes proactive detection operations. Both should be kept in view when interpreting how enforcement works.

- Unauthorized use of copyrighted music, samples, lyrics, artwork or other protected material.
- AI-generated impersonation of a person’s voice or likeness without authorization.
- Content that violates SoundCloud’s Terms or other platform policies.
- Signals from audio, image or track-data detection systems that require review.
- Insufficient documentation during a SoundCloud for Artists distribution or monetization submission.
A detection event is not necessarily a final finding. SoundCloud’s policy describes review, possible suspension or removal, and notice and appeal mechanisms. Keep source files, licenses, invoices, subscription records and the AI tool’s applicable terms so you can explain how the track was made if a review occurs.

A practical publishing checklist
Before uploading to YouTube
- List every AI contribution: the full track, vocal conversion, instrumental layer, lyrics, cover art and video visuals.
- Decide whether the contribution is meaningful and realistic enough to fall within YouTube’s disclosure examples. If it is, enable the AI-use disclosure in YouTube Studio.
- If you deliver through a music partner, set the DDEX or CSV field to Fully Gen AI, Partly Gen AI or No Gen AI as appropriate. Do not leave it blank when you can classify it accurately.
- Retain licenses and creation records. Disclosure does not replace copyright permission or monetization eligibility requirements.
- After publication, check the viewer-facing presentation. If YouTube adds a label automatically, use the available correction process only when the case is eligible for creator correction.
Before submitting to SoundCloud for Artists
- Identify the AI integration partner used and confirm that the relevant output terms permit your intended distribution and monetization.
- Keep proof of subscription, license or terms of service, since SoundCloud may request it.
- Verify that all non-AI elements are cleared, including samples, lyrics, artwork and any performer’s voice or likeness.
- Do not submit an unauthorized imitation of a real person, even if the audio was generated from scratch.
- Prepare supporting documents and respond promptly if the track is flagged, suspended or held for review.
Common situations and the safer interpretation
A human singer with an AI harmony layer
For YouTube music-partner metadata, this is generally the kind of mixed production represented by Partly Gen AI. For SoundCloud, the key questions are whether the AI tool is an approved integration for the service and whether the creator has rights to the generated and human elements.
A fully prompt-generated song
YouTube’s partner examples place a complete prompt-generated track in Fully Gen AI, and a creator upload should use the covered AI disclosure. On SoundCloud, the track still needs rights clearance and, for SoundCloud for Artists services, an eligible integration and supporting evidence.
An AI-generated video for a human-recorded song
YouTube’s disclosure can apply to the visual asset even when the audio is human-performed. Classify the delivered music and video elements accurately rather than treating the audio’s origin as the only relevant fact.
A synthetic voice that resembles a celebrity
Do not assume that changing the name or adding a disclaimer cures the problem. SoundCloud’s Terms specifically prohibit unauthorized AI impersonation of a person’s voice or likeness, and YouTube disclosure is not a substitute for permission or other legal rights.
What these policies mean for creators
YouTube gives creators a visible transparency mechanism: disclose covered AI use, provide accurate partner metadata and expect that credentials or platform systems can add a label. SoundCloud puts more weight on proving authorization and meeting service-specific eligibility, with moderation systems that can act even when no public AI label is shown.
For either platform, document how the track was made before release. A clear record of prompts or production steps, tool terms, subscriptions, human contributors, licenses and final edits makes it easier to classify the work correctly and respond to an enforcement review.
