Those effects may support price in some market conditions, but neither creates a guaranteed price increase nor permanently removes tokens from supply. The result depends on purchase size, execution method, market liquidity, financing, custody terms, and whether the company later lends, pledges, transfers, or sells its XRP.
Ripple’s escrow schedule is a separate supply channel. An escrow release makes XRP available to Ripple under the release rules; it is not proof that the tokens were sold into the market. To understand the impact of any treasury company, separate three questions: how much demand the purchase created, how much XRP remains available to trade, and what could cause those holdings to return to the market.

What an XRP treasury company actually changes
A treasury company typically raises capital and uses part of its balance sheet to acquire XRP for corporate reserves. When an acquisition is executed, the buyer contributes demand to the market. If the acquired tokens stay under treasury custody rather than being offered for sale, the immediately tradable float may also be smaller.

That does not mean the XRP has been destroyed, burned, or placed in an irreversible lockup. A board can change its treasury policy, a lender can exercise rights over pledged collateral, or the company can transfer coins to another wallet or exchange. The effect is therefore best described as a potential change in near-term availability, not a permanent reduction in total supply.

No public, peer-reviewed estimate establishes a universal percentage change in XRP’s price for a given treasury purchase. The market response depends on the order’s size relative to available liquidity, the venues and time period used, and the expectations of other traders.
How XRP’s supply and escrow system works
Initial issuance and the 2025 supply snapshot
A February 20, 2025 Federal Register notice states that 100 billion XRP were initially issued. The same notice described approximately 62 billion XRP in circulation and approximately 38 billion XRP in escrow at that time. These are dated figures from that notice, not a current 2026 supply count or a forecast of future circulation.
The 100-billion figure is the initial issuance ceiling. Escrow changes when tokens become accessible and who controls them; it does not create a second issuance above that original amount.
What Ripple’s escrow means
Ripple’s Q1 2025 Markets Report says XRP subject to on-ledger escrow is inaccessible to Ripple until the scheduled monthly release. Ripple can use released XRP, while any released amount that remains unused is returned to escrow. A release therefore changes access and timing, not necessarily the number of coins that reach public exchanges.

Ripple also says it may transfer XRP to third parties, including exchange-traded products, trusts, and other investments, while still expecting those tokens to remain in its holdings. A transfer in that context should not automatically be treated as a market sale. The key question is whether Ripple expects the tokens to enter the broader market.

How a treasury purchase can affect XRP demand
Buying through public order books
If a company buys XRP on exchanges, its orders compete with other buyers for available offers. A large order relative to the order book can consume offers at several price levels, producing slippage and a temporary upward move. An algorithm that spreads purchases over hours or days may reduce visible price impact but still add cumulative demand.
Using over-the-counter execution
An over-the-counter transaction can match the company with a dealer or another holder away from a public order book. The purchase still represents demand, but the immediate chart reaction may be smaller because the trade is not taking visible offers from an exchange. The dealer may then hedge in public markets, so the eventual effect depends on how that inventory is managed.

There is no meaningful price conclusion from a headline purchase amount alone. Analysts need the amount of XRP acquired, the dollar value, the execution window, and the depth and turnover of the venues used. A purchase that is small compared with normal daily trading may be absorbed with little lasting movement; the same purchase during thin liquidity can move price sharply.
How holding XRP can affect tradable availability
When a treasury company stores XRP in custody and does not routinely sell it, those coins may be unavailable to ordinary market buyers during the holding period. This can tighten the immediately tradable float, especially if several large holders follow similar policies. The inference is about availability, not a permanent supply reduction.

Wallet visibility alone cannot answer whether a balance is freely saleable. A proper review checks custody arrangements, lending, collateral pledges, lockups, contractual restrictions and the company’s stated authority to dispose of the tokens.

Why financing matters as much as the purchase
Equity-funded buying
A company may issue shares to raise cash for XRP. The issuance can provide capital for a completed purchase, but it also dilutes existing shareholders. A financing announcement is not evidence that the XRP has already been bought; the acquisition should be confirmed in a filing, audited statement or other dated disclosure.
Debt-funded buying
Debt can let a treasury company acquire XRP without issuing as many shares. Interest, maturity dates and collateral requirements add financial risk. If XRP is pledged and its price falls, the company may need to post more collateral or sell assets, creating a potential source of market supply.
Uncommitted plans and targets
Words such as “intends,” “targets,” or “plans to acquire” describe a proposed action. They do not establish the amount purchased, the execution date, or whether financing closed. Treat announced allocations and completed holdings as separate data points.
What can make the effect stronger or weaker
- Relative size: Compare the executed purchase with market depth and normal trading activity, not only with XRP’s total supply.
- Execution period: A concentrated order can cause more short-term slippage than the same amount accumulated gradually.
- Venue mix: Exchange, OTC and derivatives-linked execution can produce different visible effects.
- Holding policy: A stated multi-year reserve policy may reduce routine selling, while an actively managed treasury may trade the balance.
- Encumbrance: Lent or pledged XRP can become a source of forced selling even when the company reports it as an asset.
- Market regime: In a broad risk-off selloff, wider selling can overwhelm a treasury purchase; in a strong bull market, the same purchase may reinforce momentum.
- Disclosure quality: A dated, independently verifiable balance is more informative than a social-media announcement or an aspirational target.
Price has several drivers beyond treasury demand
An SEC-filed annual report for the Grayscale XRP Trust identifies publicly available XRP supply, trading activity, overall market conditions and sentiment, adoption, regulatory developments, and use of the XRP Ledger as factors relevant to XRP’s value. Treasury purchases are therefore one potential demand source among many.
Network use can affect demand independently of corporate reserves. Regulatory news can change which institutions are willing to hold or transact in XRP. Bitcoin and broader digital-asset market moves can alter risk appetite. Trading activity, derivatives positioning and liquidity conditions can amplify or offset a company’s purchase. Because these forces interact, a price move following an acquisition announcement cannot automatically be attributed to the treasury transaction itself.

How to verify a company’s claimed XRP balance
Use a consistent checklist before treating a company as an XRP treasury holder:
- Confirm the date. Record the reporting period and publication date. A balance reported in 2025 is not a current 2026 balance.
- Separate completed holdings from targets. Look for a balance sheet, regulatory filing, custodian statement or other dated evidence of coins actually received.
- Identify the acquisition route. Note whether XRP was bought on an exchange, through an OTC desk, from a strategic counterparty or by another method.
- Check financing. Record equity issuance, debt, warrants and dilution terms that funded or may fund the purchases.
- Review custody and restrictions. Determine whether the XRP is held directly, lent, pledged, locked, or subject to a disposal restriction.
- Estimate market relevance carefully. Compare the balance with observable liquidity and trading activity, while avoiding the claim that a percentage of total supply equals the same percentage of price impact.
- Track subsequent transactions. Later filings or wallet disclosures may show transfers, sales, collateral movements or additional purchases.
The SEC-filed Grayscale XRP Trust report lists 131,223,200.0749 XRP held at December 31, 2025. That is a dated trust balance, not a census of XRP treasury companies and not evidence that every corporate holder has a similar position.
Ripple’s corporate treasury software context
On April 1, 2026, Ripple announced that Ripple Treasury launched Digital Asset Accounts and Unified Treasury. The company described XRP and RLUSD balances as visible and manageable alongside cash in the platform. This demonstrates an enterprise treasury-software use case: organizations can account for digital-asset balances within treasury operations.
The announcement does not prove that a particular public company accumulated XRP, that any announced purchase was completed, or that a referral or partner program exists. Software visibility also does not reveal whether a balance is held for the long term or is available for trading.

Common misconceptions
“A treasury purchase takes XRP out of circulation.”
It can take coins out of routine market offers while they are held, but it does not remove them from the ledger or guarantee permanent illiquidity. The company may later sell, lend, pledge or transfer them.
“Every escrow release increases exchange supply.”
No. Ripple says unused released XRP is returned to escrow, and a release is not synonymous with a market sale. The market effect depends on what Ripple does with the released tokens.
“A larger treasury balance guarantees a higher XRP price.”
No. Purchases add demand at execution, but wider market selling, weak liquidity, regulatory events or a later treasury sale can dominate the outcome.
“An announced purchase is already reflected in supply data.”
Not necessarily. Until the acquisition closes and the company reports or otherwise verifies the received XRP, the announcement is a plan rather than a completed balance.
Bottom line for readers
XRP treasury companies can influence the market through two linked mechanisms: completed purchases add demand, and retained holdings may reduce near-term tradable availability. The strength and duration of either effect depend on execution, liquidity, financing, custody and later asset movements. XRP’s 100-billion initial issuance, Ripple’s escrow schedule and broader forces such as adoption, regulation, sentiment and trading activity remain separate parts of the supply-and-price picture. Use dated, verified holdings and distinguish completed acquisitions from targets before drawing conclusions about any company or the sector.
