Gears of War: E-Day makes reloading a tactical choice: with the Gnasher and Breechshot, you can fire after loading one or two rounds instead of waiting for a full magazine. Active Reload can reward good timing or jam the weapon, while ammo caches and weapon mods depend on the mode. The official materials available as of October 4, 2026, do not publish a complete numeric damage chart.
How Active Reload and partial reloads work
Active Reload returns with its indicator positioned where the player aims in the gameplay demo. The Coalition’s creative director, Matt Searcy, describes the mechanic as carrying a risk of jamming and the possibility of extra damage. In the Xbox campaign preview, a well-timed Perfect Reload speeds the next round; a poorly timed attempt can jam the weapon. These descriptions do not establish a universal damage bonus or reload timing window.

For the Gnasher and Breechshot, reloading can happen round by round. You can load one or two rounds, interrupt the reload, and fire without waiting for the full cycle. As Searcy explained on the Official Xbox Podcast about the demo’s Gnasher: “So you can see in this demo, when we use a Gnasher in there, some of our weapons now have single shell loading. So you can see each shell load in the Active Reload bar. And actually, you can interrupt your reload to fire a shell immediately and basically trade off having a smaller clip to get your shot out at a time of urgency if you need it.” The Official Xbox Podcast transcript records his explanation.
The Gnasher’s smaller capacity
The Coalition says the Gnasher holds six shells, down from eight in the previous design, to balance the new hot-reload option. That capacity trade-off makes the ability to load and fire a shell early useful when a fight cannot wait for a full reload. The July 31, 2026 gameplay update identifies the Gnasher and Breechshot as the weapons using round-by-round active reload.

What is known about weapon damage
The official descriptions provide selected weapon traits, not a complete weapon-by-weapon damage chart. For example, the Coalition says the Breechshot can kill with one headshot in PvP. That specific statement should not be generalized into a damage value for other modes, hit locations, or weapons.
Other published characteristics can help distinguish weapons without implying an unsupported damage ranking:

These are developer-published descriptions. The reviewed official materials do not give numeric damage by weapon, range, enemy, or hit location, or universal damage multipliers.
Where to refill ammunition and change weapons
In the campaign, supply caches around the city can refill ammunition, change your loadout, and equip weapon mods, according to Xbox’s August 25, 2026 campaign preview. The preview does not state a cache’s specific ammo quantities, so treat it as a resupply and loadout point rather than assuming a fixed refill amount.

How mods differ between Campaign, Horde Siege, and Versus
Mods are mode-specific; a campaign or Horde Siege upgrade should not be assumed to apply in Versus.

How to choose what to do when a weapon is low
- If immediate fire matters, use the Gnasher or Breechshot’s round-by-round reload to load a round or two and interrupt the cycle to shoot.
- If you have time to reload, completing the cycle avoids choosing to fire with only the partial load you inserted; the sources do not publish exact reload timings.
- Use Active Reload deliberately: a Perfect Reload is described in the campaign preview as speeding the next round, while a bad attempt can jam the weapon. No universal bonus or timing window is specified.
- In campaign, look for supply caches when you need ammunition, a different loadout, or weapon mods.
- In Horde Siege, consider that armor mods may affect ammo reserves; in Versus, plan around the shared starting equipment and absence of weapon mods.
These choices reflect the specific mechanics and mode descriptions published by The Coalition and Xbox; they are not a numeric weapon ranking.
