Yes, if you want a solo introduction; choose Hub quests if you want to hunt with other people. Village and Gathering Hub quests have separate progress tracking, and Capcom identifies a specific Hub quest—not Village progress—as the base-game requirement for starting Sunbreak.
How Village and Hub quests differ
Monster Hunter Rise tracks Village and Gathering Hub progress as separate categories. The in-game Progress Guide shows each category and its current objective, so you can check which track you have advanced and what to do next. Capcom’s official manual describes the Progress Guide.

Choose Village first for a solo start
If you are new to Monster Hunter and plan to play alone, Village is a reasonable place to begin. Its solo-only format makes the choice straightforward, while the Progress Guide lets you follow its objectives independently of Hub progress.
#1 Best Overall
- The debut of the new “wirebug” mechanic allows for wire-based grappling actions that can be used to scale cliffs and other hard-to-reach areas, providing new traversal and aerial attack options.
- The game will introduce magnamalo, a menacing new flagship monster, as well as other new monsters like the shape-shifting aknosom, the amphibious tetranadon, and more.
- New hunting partners called palamutes can be personalized and used to ride across the terrain, providing players with all-new traveling and attack options.
- In addition to the plethora of solo and multiplayer quests, the immersive story mode will task aspiring hunters with discovering the secrets behind the puzzling “rampage” events that threaten kamura village.
- Play solo, or join up to three other hunters in local or online co-op play. The Nintendo Switch system also allows for hunting anywhere, anytime and with anyone!
Choose Hub quests for co-op
If you want to hunt with a friend or group, take Hub quests. Other players cannot join Village quests, so they are not the track for a shared hunt.
Progress in Hub for Sunbreak
To start Sunbreak, Capcom Support says you must complete the base-game Hub 7★ quest “Serpent Goddess of Thunder.” The requirement is specific: Village progress alone does not meet the Hub quest condition described by Capcom. See Capcom Support’s Sunbreak access instructions.

If you have already advanced in one track
Open the in-game Progress Guide and check both categories. Follow the objective for the track that matches your immediate goal: Village for solo progress, Hub for multiplayer or the stated Sunbreak requirement.
What not to assume about the tracks
The official sources cited here establish separate progress categories, Village’s solo-only status, and the named Hub quest required for Sunbreak. They do not establish exact differences in difficulty, monster tuning, or reward amounts, or a guarantee that Village completion grants a particular license-test rank or skips specified Hub ranks. Treat those details as unverified rather than using them to decide which track is easier or faster.
