What you are actually choosing in Ultimate Team
EA SPORTS FC Ultimate Team has two different ways to add items to a squad. A pack is a randomized bundle. You see guaranteed minimum contents and probability bands, then receive items selected from the pack’s eligible pool. The Transfer Market is a player-to-player marketplace: when an item is tradeable, you can exchange it for Coins at a listing price that falls within EA’s limits.

Those systems solve different problems. A pack offers a chance at several items at once, but it cannot promise a named footballer. The market can let you target a particular tradeable item, but only when another user has listed it and the current price fits your budget. Untradeable rewards from packs, objectives or other sources cannot simply be listed because they are not eligible for exchange.
How FC 27 pack probabilities work
EA’s current probability explanation, published August 20, 2026, applies to FC 27. For packs offered for FC Points, open the pack’s details in the Ultimate Team Store and select Show Pack Probabilities. Treat that in-game panel as the live reference: content updates can change the figures, and the display includes a timestamp showing when its values were accurate. Percentages cover categories, not named players
The store groups outcomes by Player Item type and overall-rating range, or by Club Item type. Player Items represent footballers. Club Items include items such as kits, vanity items, manager items and consumables. A displayed percentage is the minimum chance of receiving one or more items in that named category and rating band.
Categories can overlap. A high-rated gold player may satisfy both a broad gold-player category and a narrower higher-rating category, so the percentages are not separate, mutually exclusive slices that add up to 100 percent. A category chance is therefore not the chance of one specific card.
EA’s published illustration uses a hypothetical Large Gold Pack with example values of Gold 75+ Player at 100%, Gold 82+ Player at 18% and Gold 84+ Player at 4.2%. Those numbers are explicitly an example and may not match the final game; do not treat them as current odds for a pack in your store.
Why a desired player is much rarer
After the game determines which categories are represented, it selects a specific item from a large eligible pool. EA says the probability of any particular item is significantly lower than the displayed category probability and is often below 1% as a general description. That statement is not a measured, pack-specific rate for every footballer. The only reliable way to assess a particular offer is to inspect its live probability panel and the pack’s eligible contents.

Every opening is independent
Probabilities apply to each pack separately. EA states: “Any probability percentages that you see are on a pack-by-pack basis and are not cumulative.” Opening ten packs does not make the next pack more likely to contain a desired category, and a run of poor results does not create a “due” reward. The calculation is rerun by simulating many openings for each pack type and can be updated when live content changes.
How to read a pack before spending
- Open the live offer in the Ultimate Team Store. Confirm the pack name, its cost and the currency requested. Prices and contents are live listings, not permanent FC 27 specifications.
- Select Show Pack Probabilities. Read the minimum chance for each listed player-rating band and club-item category. Remember that overlapping categories describe the chance of one or more qualifying items, not a guaranteed number of separate cards.
- Check the guaranteed contents. Distinguish a guaranteed minimum rating or item count from a probability. A guarantee tells you what the pack must contain; it does not identify the footballer.
- Check whether items are tradeable. A pack can contain items that cannot be listed on the Transfer Market. If your goal is Coins or a specific purchase, the pack’s tradeability rules matter as much as its odds.
- Compare the risk with your objective. If you need one named player, a tradeable listing—when available—offers a direct target. If you value several possible upgrades, cosmetics or consumables and accept uncertainty, a pack may fit better.
Pack or Transfer Market? The practical difference

There is no universal claim that one route is cheaper. Pack prices, contents, odds, item supply and demand all change. Use the market when certainty about the item matters and a fair listing exists; use a pack only when its possible contents justify paying for an uncertain outcome.
How the FC Transfer Market works
EA describes the Transfer Market as an exchange for tradeable Ultimate Team items. Each item has a minimum and maximum listing price. Within that permitted range, the item’s average Coin price moves according to its performance and to supply and demand. A price you see today is a snapshot, not a guaranteed value or an investment return.
Buying a listed item
When your account has the necessary access, open the Transfer Market, search for the item type or player you want, and review the available listings. A listing can be purchased through its Buy Now option or, where offered, by bidding. Compare several current listings rather than assuming an old price remains valid. If no listing appears, the item may be temporarily scarce, restricted to a different version, or simply not offered at that moment.

Selling or quick-selling
Only eligible tradeable items can be listed for Coins. Set a price inside the item’s permitted minimum and maximum. EA also allows you to quick-sell tradeable items for Coins when you do not want to wait for a buyer; quick-selling removes the item rather than exposing it to marketplace demand. Untradeable items cannot be converted through a listing.
Unlocking market access on a new account
EA uses a Graduated Access process for eligible new accounts. Market functions can remain restricted while you complete the required objectives and wait for the account to unlock. Follow the current instructions in EA’s Transfer Market access guide, because eligibility and requirements can change with platform or account status.
What the waiting period means
EA’s current support instructions say full access is provided within 48 hours after objective completion on PC and within 24 hours on other platforms. During the post-objective waiting period, listing may be available while searching, bidding and Buy Now remain unavailable. These are the stated support time frames, not a guarantee that every account will unlock at exactly the same moment.
If access does not appear
- Confirm that every Graduated Access objective shows as complete on the account you are using.
- Allow the applicable PC or non-PC waiting period to pass before assuming the process failed.
- Check the account and platform currently signed in; access can depend on account history and platform status.
- Use EA Help’s current instructions rather than third-party claims that promise an instant unlock or ask for your login details.
Coins: legitimate ways to earn and prohibited shortcuts
Coins are the in-game currency used in the Ultimate Team economy. EA identifies playing matches and selling tradeable items at a fair market price as legitimate earning routes. Quick-selling a tradeable item is another supported way to receive Coins, although you give up the chance to sell it to another user.

EA prohibits buying Coins from third parties, distributing Coins between accounts and using the market to move Coins deliberately. Examples include arranging extreme-price listings to transfer value or using external sellers that promise a Coin balance. The rules apply to market activity and related account behavior; violations can lead to limited or revoked Transfer Market access, including in the Companion App, or other account action. What not to confuse with a legitimate sale
- Fair sale: listing an eligible item at a price consistent with current market conditions.
- Coin transfer: manipulating a listing so another account receives value; EA treats this as prohibited distribution, even when the listing uses a real item.
- Third-party purchase: paying an outside seller for Coins rather than earning them in the game.
FC Points and Coins are different currencies
FC Points are paid currency. EA says they can be used in the Ultimate Team Store for packs and other store items, to enter Ultimate Team Drafts and for the Premium Pass. Coins are earned in-game and circulate through item transactions. A pack offer may accept one currency or the other, so read the purchase screen instead of assuming that every pack has the same payment option.
EA’s safety guidance recommends acquiring FC Points through the Ultimate Team Store, your console store or trusted retailers. Do not treat a pack as an investment: the odds are independent, the item pool can change and a card’s market value can fall when supply rises. A decision checklist before opening or buying
- Define the goal. Decide whether you want a named player, broad squad upgrades, consumables, cosmetics or Coins from a later sale.
- For a pack, inspect the live panel. Record the current cost, guarantees, tradeability and category probabilities shown in the Store.
- For a market purchase, check availability. Compare several listings and account for the fact that supply, demand and player performance can move the average price.
- Use only earned Coins or permitted FC Points. Avoid external Coin sellers, account-to-account transfers and anyone requesting your EA credentials.
- Keep expectations statistical. A probability is not a promise, and previous openings do not improve the next one.
Common mistakes and how to correct them
“The pack says 18%, so I should get the player I want.”
The percentage refers to one or more items in a category and rating band. It does not identify a particular footballer. Recheck the category label and the eligible pool before buying.

“I opened several packs without a top card, so the next one is guaranteed.”
There is no cumulative counter in the published probability explanation. Each opening is independent. Stop or continue based on the current offer’s value to you, not on a belief that a reward is overdue.
“Every item from a pack can be sold.”
Tradeability is item-specific. Check the item status; untradeable cards cannot be listed, while eligible tradeable cards can be sold within EA’s price limits.
“A friend can send me Coins through a high-priced listing.”
Using the market to distribute Coins is prohibited. Earn Coins through matches and fair sales instead, and consult EA’s rules if an offer or transaction appears suspicious.

Keeping the system understandable
The safest mental model is simple: packs exchange currency for a randomized chance, while the Transfer Market exchanges Coins for whatever eligible supply other players have listed. Read the live FC 27 probability panel for every pack, treat category percentages as per-opening minimums, verify tradeability, and expect market prices and access rules to change as EA updates the game.
