Short answer: Sling TV’s stated service area is the 50 United States and Puerto Rico, so Japan is outside it. An NBC app login through Sling does not guarantee access from Japan, and Paramount+’s U.S. CBS features are not evidence that the service is available there. For a particular show, game, or news program, check which service holds its Japan rights.
Can you watch Sling TV in Japan?
No—not under Sling’s published service-area policy. Sling says its content is available for streaming only within the 50 United States and Puerto Rico, and describes the service as geographically restricted. Japan is outside that area. Sling’s Error Code 11-601 help page also explains that this error can appear when someone tries to stream outside the United States.

Sling’s broader blackouts and viewing restrictions guidance notes that some programs may be unavailable because of programmer restrictions or blackouts. Local NBC and other local channels are offered only in select U.S. markets, so even a U.S. Sling subscription does not necessarily include every local channel everywhere.

Not necessarily. NBC lists Sling as a participating TV-provider partner, but its partner page directs users to check with Sling about location. That provider relationship is not a promise that a Sling subscriber can watch NBC from Japan. Sling’s information about using its sign-in for other apps explains the partner-login feature; Sling’s geographic limit still applies.

NBC’s rules add separate conditions. Live or locked content on NBC.com and NBCUniversal apps requires an eligible listed cable, satellite, or digital TV provider that carries the channel or program and permits streaming in the viewer’s current location and on the current network. NBC also says an internet-only plan does not authorize locked content. See NBC’s explanation of TV providers versus internet providers.
Can you watch CBS live in Japan with Paramount+?
Do not assume so. Paramount+’s guide, updated October 1, 2026, describes CBS access in markets where the service and content are available: Essential generally offers current CBS episodes the day after broadcast, while Premium adds a local live CBS station. The guide cautions that content and access vary by country. Check Paramount+’s CBS viewing guide for its plan descriptions.

Look up the exact title, not just the U.S. network. International streaming and broadcast rights can differ by program, sports event, and territory. Check the rights holder or Japan-licensed broadcaster for that specific content. Without a named show or event, there is no single Japan provider that can be recommended reliably for all NBC or CBS programming.

Will a Roku, antenna, or VPN solve the problem?
- Roku or another streaming device: Paramount+ lists Roku, Fire TV, Apple TV, smart TVs, mobile devices, consoles, and web browsers as playback options. Compatible hardware helps only when the service and account are eligible in the viewer’s country; it does not change geographic restrictions. Paramount+ lists its supported playback options in its guide.
- Antenna: A terrestrial U.S. TV antenna is not a practical way to receive U.S. local broadcast stations in Japan.
- VPN or router setup: These are not a reliable or appropriate fix for the published service-area limits. Sling’s troubleshooting page says VPNs can cause location identification problems or be blocked; it does not make Japan an authorized service location. See Sling’s location and error guidance.
