1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFor the best available presentation, open Rockstar Games’ official GTA VI media page and choose Trailer 1, Trailer 2 or Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look. On PS5, use Settings > Screen and Video > Video Output, leave Resolution on Automatic, set HDR to On When Supported, and complete Adjust HDR. Your television must support HDR, its HDMI input must be configured for enhanced 4K/HDR signals, and the complete HDMI path must be compatible. In YouTube, select the highest quality option the individual video offers. The Extended Look also has an official Netflix release, but neither a 4K television nor a PS5 can turn an SDR upload into genuine HDR.
Start with the official GTA VI video
Rockstar Games’ current GTA VI media page is the safest starting point. It lists Trailer 1, Trailer 2 and Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look, and labels the material “Plays best on PlayStation 5.” Open the page on the device connected to your 4K television, select the video you want, and verify the player’s quality options before changing picture settings.

The Extended Look has additional official distribution. Rockstar announced on August 6, 2026 that it would premiere on Netflix and then launch on the official Rockstar YouTube channel and the GTA VI site. A Rockstar update dated August 27, 2026 says it is playing on Netflix and is also available through YouTube and the official GTA VI site. Rockstar says that footage was captured entirely from in-game footage on PlayStation 5.
Those announcements apply specifically to the Extended Look. They do not establish that every GTA VI trailer is in Netflix’s catalog, nor that every upload on every service has a 4K or HDR encode. Start with the publisher’s page rather than a repost, social-media clip or search result, because an unofficial copy may be cropped, recompressed or limited to a lower resolution.

What you need for a real 4K HDR signal
There is no single “4K HDR” switch that fixes an incompatible setup. The video file, playback app, PS5 output, cable, any receiver or switch, TV input and television panel all have to support the path. Use this checklist before troubleshooting the image.
| Part of the setup | What to verify | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Video source | The selected GTA VI video actually offers 4K and HDR options in its player | A display cannot add HDR metadata or recover detail that is absent from an SDR or lower-resolution upload. |
| Console | PS5 connected directly or through a fully compatible HDMI device | The console negotiates resolution and HDR with the equipment it can see. |
| Television | 4K panel with HDR support and the correct enhanced HDMI input mode enabled | Some televisions accept full-bandwidth 4K/HDR only after an input setting is changed. |
| Cable | HDMI 2.1-capable cable, as specified in Rockstar’s HDR troubleshooting checklist | An unsuitable cable can cause dropouts, a fallback to a lower format or a blank screen. |
| Intermediate hardware | Every receiver, soundbar, splitter or HDMI switch in the chain supports the required signal | The weakest link can limit the format even when the PS5 and TV are capable. |
| Picture processing | Game Mode enabled when available; automatic enhancement features disabled while testing | Extra processing can alter the intended image and make it harder to identify a signal problem. |
Rockstar and PlayStation do not publish a measured trailer bitrate, peak brightness, frame rate or guaranteed HDR format for these videos. Do not treat a “4K” label as proof of a particular bitrate or frame rate. A stream can be labeled 4K while using a different compression level from another service, and the available resolution can change with the device or playback conditions.
Source, format and device are separate questions
When comparing Rockstar’s site, YouTube and Netflix, check three things independently: whether that service carries the specific video, which format choices the player exposes, and whether your playback device can pass those choices to the TV. The source with the largest-looking title is not automatically the one delivering the highest-quality stream. A YouTube player might expose 2160p for one upload and only 1080p for another, while Netflix may show different quality information by region, subscription, device and connection.

Compression and bitrate are also not published specifications for these trailers. You can compare the visible quality menu and the TV’s incoming-signal information, but you cannot responsibly infer a measured bitrate or peak brightness from the words “4K” or “HDR.”
Configure the PS5
Use the PS5’s video-output controls first. The labels below are the current PlayStation menu names cited in the support guidance.
- From the PS5 home screen, open Settings.
- Choose Screen and Video, then Video Output.
- Set Resolution to Automatic. This lets the PS5 select the highest resolution reported by the television. If you prefer a fixed value, choose the highest resolution the display explicitly supports.
- Set HDR to On When Supported. This sends HDR only to content that supports it and leaves non-HDR apps and videos in SDR.
- Select Adjust HDR and complete all of the calibration screens while viewing the TV from your normal seating position.
- Return to the video-output page and leave other options at their normal or automatic values unless you are solving a specific compatibility problem.
Do not use Always On as a shortcut to “more HDR.” That setting converts non-HDR content to HDR output, which can change the intended appearance. On When Supported is the appropriate default for a mixture of HDR and SDR videos.

If the 4K picture flickers
PlayStation lists Video Transfer Rate adjustments of -1 or -2 as troubleshooting options for 4K output problems. Try them only after checking the cable, TV input mode and any intermediary equipment. A negative value can reduce some 4K signal formats, so it is a compatibility measure rather than an image-quality upgrade. If the picture becomes stable, test the original setting again after replacing or bypassing the suspected weak link.
Prepare the television
Turn on the TV’s HDR capability before launching the video. Manufacturers use different names for the enhanced HDMI setting; examples cited by Rockstar Support include Ultra Deep Color, HDMI UHD Color and Smart HDR. Open the settings for the exact HDMI port used by the PS5 and enable that mode if the television requires it.
Use a neutral picture mode while testing
Choose Game Mode when the television offers it. Rockstar’s troubleshooting guidance also recommends disabling AI, Smart, Dynamic or Adaptive picture enhancements while diagnosing HDR. Disable Dynamic Tone Mapping during the initial check; HGIG may be enabled when the TV supports it. These controls affect processing, not whether the source contains HDR metadata, so establish a correct signal first and tune preferences afterward.
TV menus vary by manufacturer and model. If HDR works on one HDMI port but not another, leave the PS5 on the port that supports the television’s full 4K/HDR capability and make a note of that port for future use. Some sets expose enhanced-bandwidth controls separately for each input, so changing a setting on an unused port will not fix the PS5 connection.
Check the entire HDMI chain
Connect the PS5 directly to the TV for the first test whenever possible. Use the HDMI 2.1-capable cable specified by Rockstar’s HDR checklist. If you normally route the console through an AV receiver, soundbar or HDMI switch, reconnect each device one at a time only after the direct connection works.

When shopping for a replacement, look for an Ultra High Speed HDMI 2.1 cable for PS5 4K HDR rather than relying on an unverified cable description. The cable is only one part of the path: buying a new cable cannot make a non-HDR TV or an incompatible receiver pass HDR.
Select the highest quality in YouTube
YouTube does not guarantee that every GTA VI upload has a 4K or HDR encode. Options vary by video and device, and the player may initially choose a lower quality based on bandwidth or automatic playback decisions.
- Start the official GTA VI upload in the YouTube app or website.
- Open the player’s Settings menu.
- Choose Quality.
- Select the highest resolution offered for that specific video. If an HDR-labelled option is shown, choose the highest HDR option available.
If the highest choice is 1080p, that upload is not providing a 4K stream to your device at that moment. If a 4K choice appears but the television remains in SDR, continue with the signal checks below rather than forcing the TV into an artificial HDR mode. A player can also begin at a lower setting and move up after the connection has enough time to stabilize, so check the menu again before judging the final image.
Watch the Extended Look on Netflix
Netflix is an official route for Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look, based on Rockstar’s August 6 announcement and August 27 update. Search for the title in the Netflix app on the PS5 or on a compatible TV device, then use the title’s playback information to see which quality and HDR options Netflix offers in your region and plan.
The Netflix route is limited to the Extended Look. It is not evidence that Trailer 1 or Trailer 2 is available there. Catalog availability and the formats shown by Netflix can vary by region, subscription, device and connection, so the player’s information panel is the authoritative check for your session. If the title is absent or an HDR badge is missing, use Rockstar’s site or official YouTube upload instead of assuming the account or TV is defective.
Choosing among the official sources
| Source | Best use | Format check | Important limitation |
|---|---|---|---|
| Rockstar GTA VI media page | Finding Trailer 1, Trailer 2 and the Extended Look from the publisher | Use the player’s quality controls and your TV’s signal information | The page does not, by itself, guarantee a particular encode for every device. |
| Official Rockstar YouTube channel | Playing the trailers in a familiar app with selectable quality | Open Settings > Quality and choose the highest option offered | Quality options are video- and device-dependent; do not assume every upload is 4K or HDR. |
| Netflix | Watching the Extended Look through its official streaming release | Check the title’s playback information in your region and plan | The documented Netflix release is for the Extended Look, not all GTA VI trailers. |
Troubleshoot by the symptom
The trailer looks blurry on a 4K TV
- Open the player’s Quality menu and verify that the selected video actually offers 2160p or another 4K option.
- Check whether YouTube or the streaming app has automatically selected a lower resolution because of bandwidth.
- Confirm that the PS5 is connected to the TV input configured for enhanced 4K/HDR operation.
- Temporarily connect the PS5 directly to the TV and remove receivers, switches and splitters from the path.
- Replace the cable with an HDMI 2.1-capable cable if the current cable is unverified.
A 4K panel can upscale a lower-resolution stream, but upscaling is not the same as receiving a native 4K encode. Also check the player itself: menus and the PS5 interface can appear sharp at 4K even while a video is playing at a lower resolution.

- Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft
The TV never switches into HDR
- Verify that the selected video offers HDR, rather than assuming the trailer title implies it.
- Keep the PS5 HDR setting on On When Supported and rerun Adjust HDR if the console was recently moved to another display.
- Enable the TV’s enhanced HDMI mode for the port used by the PS5.
- Check every receiver, soundbar or switch in the route, then test a direct PS5-to-TV connection.
- Use the television’s on-screen signal information, when available, to confirm whether the incoming signal is HDR.
Do not enable Always On merely because the TV stays in SDR; that setting can convert SDR content instead of proving that the source is HDR. If the same TV reports HDR from another known HDR video, compare that title’s cable route and input settings with the GTA VI playback session.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
The image flickers or briefly goes black
- Reseat both HDMI connectors and test another compatible cable.
- Bypass intermediary HDMI equipment.
- Try Video Transfer Rate -1, then -2, from the PS5’s Video Output menu if the 4K signal remains unstable.
- If a lower transfer-rate setting solves the symptom, investigate the cable or intermediary device before accepting the reduced format permanently.
HDR looks too bright, too dark or unnatural
- Complete the PS5’s Adjust HDR screens again in the room where you normally watch.
- Disable Dynamic Tone Mapping and other automatic picture enhancements while comparing the image.
- Use Game Mode and, where supported, HGIG as Rockstar’s troubleshooting guidance suggests.
- Compare the same scene with the TV’s signal information visible so that you are adjusting a confirmed HDR feed rather than an SDR conversion.
What 4K and HDR can—and cannot—promise
4K describes the output resolution, not the quality of the source encode. A 4K television may receive a 4K stream, upscale a lower-resolution stream or display an app interface at 4K while the video itself is lower resolution.
HDR depends on the video carrying HDR information and on the complete playback chain passing it through. The console, cable and display must agree on a supported format. If the source is SDR, enabling HDR output on the PS5 or a television’s “dynamic” picture mode does not recreate the original HDR grading.
Rockstar and PlayStation’s published guidance does not state a universal peak-brightness target, measured bitrate or guaranteed frame rate for these trailers. Those specifications should not be inferred from a 4K or HDR label. The meaningful checks are the quality choices shown for the individual video and the signal status reported by the television.
A reliable viewing sequence
- Open the official Rockstar GTA VI media page or the official source for the particular trailer.
- Connect the PS5 to the TV’s enhanced 4K/HDR HDMI input with an HDMI 2.1-capable cable.
- Set the PS5 to Automatic resolution, On When Supported HDR and completed Adjust HDR calibration.
- Enable the TV’s enhanced HDMI mode and select Game Mode; turn off automatic enhancements while checking the signal.
- Play the video and select the highest quality option the player offers.
- Confirm the TV reports HDR only when the selected video provides it.
- If the signal is unstable, test a direct connection and then use Video Transfer Rate -1 or -2 only as a troubleshooting fallback.
This sequence separates source limitations from equipment problems: first establish what the video offers, then verify the PS5, display and HDMI path can deliver it.

Frequently Asked Questions
Where can I watch the GTA 6 trailer in 4K?
Use Rockstar Games’ official GTA VI media page or the official Rockstar YouTube upload. Open the player’s quality menu and choose the highest option actually offered; not every upload or device provides 4K.

How do I turn HDR on for GTA 6 on PS5?
Go to Settings > Screen and Video > Video Output, set HDR to On When Supported, and complete Adjust HDR. The video must itself carry HDR information, and the TV and HDMI chain must support it.
Do I need an HDMI 2.1 cable for PS5 HDR?
Rockstar’s HDR troubleshooting checklist specifies an HDMI 2.1-capable cable. Use one when checking a 4K HDR connection, but remember that the TV input and every receiver, switch or soundbar in the path must also support the signal.
Why does the trailer look blurry on my 4K TV?
Confirm that the individual video offers a 4K option and that the player selected it. Then check bandwidth, the TV’s enhanced HDMI mode, the cable and any intermediary equipment. A 4K panel can upscale a lower-resolution stream but cannot restore missing detail.
Is the GTA 6 Extended Look on Netflix?
Yes. Rockstar announced the Netflix release on August 6, 2026 and said in an August 27, 2026 update that it was playing on Netflix. That documented Netflix route applies to the Extended Look, not necessarily Trailer 1 or Trailer 2, and availability and formats vary by region and plan.
Should PS5 HDR be set to Always On?
No. Always On converts non-HDR content to HDR output and can change its intended appearance. On When Supported preserves SDR for non-HDR apps and videos while passing HDR when the source supports it.
What should I do if 4K HDR flickers or the screen goes black?
Check the HDMI connectors and cable, bypass receivers or switches, and test a direct PS5-to-TV connection. If the problem remains, try Video Transfer Rate -1 and then -2. These settings can reduce some 4K formats, so treat them as troubleshooting steps.
Can a 4K TV make an SDR GTA 6 upload HDR?
No. A TV or PS5 can upscale resolution or convert output, but genuine HDR requires HDR information in the video and a compatible console, cable, input and display path.

The Bottom Line
For the most dependable GTA VI viewing setup, start with Rockstar’s official media page or official YouTube upload, choose the highest quality the specific player offers, and use the Extended Look’s Netflix release only when that title is available in your region. Set the PS5 to Automatic resolution and On When Supported HDR, run Adjust HDR, enable the TV’s enhanced HDMI mode and Game Mode, and verify every cable and intermediary device. If the source does not offer 4K or HDR, no television setting can create it.
