On a supported track, tap Switch to video; on a TV, the larger-screen option can make watching feel more deliberate. Spotify also lets you switch back to audio without losing your place. Access is a Premium feature, and whether a video is available depends on your market and the track.
Why the phone is not always the best place to watch
A phone is handy for finding a song and listening anywhere, but its small screen encourages quick, close-up viewing. A television changes the posture: you can sit back and give a video your attention, or let the song remain audio-first when you are doing something else. That is a difference in viewing context, not a claim that a TV produces better video quality.

You do not need to buy a television or connected device just to try the feature. Spotify lists TV, mobile and tablet, desktop, and web player as viewing categories. Its support guidance does not establish compatibility for every television model, so check that Spotify is available on the device you already own.

How to switch a Spotify song to video
- On a supported device, play a track with an available music video.
- Open the Now Playing view and choose Switch to video.
- On a phone, rotate it to landscape for a full-screen view.
- Choose Switch to audio to return to background listening. Playback continues from the point reached when you switched.
Spotify describes the transition this way: “The music video will start playing right where the song left off.” The same continuity makes it easy to watch a moment and then carry on listening without restarting the track.

Where you can watch—and what availability means
Spotify Support lists mobile and tablet, desktop, web player, and TV viewing. These are device categories, not a guarantee that every app version, television, account, or track will expose a video control. Look for Switch to video on the track’s Now Playing screen; if it is absent, that video may not be available to your account or in your market.
Spotify labels music videos a Premium feature and says its catalog contains thousands of videos, but availability of a particular video varies. The US and Canada beta expansion announced in December 2025 was a regional rollout, not evidence of universal availability. Check the current Spotify app and your account rather than assuming a song has a video.

Finding more videos
Spotify introduced Videos for You in June 2026, a daily refreshed personalized playlist for Premium users in the US and Canada and most other markets where music videos are available. Search Spotify for “Videos for You” or look in Search playlist highlights. As with individual tracks, the playlist’s availability depends on market access.

You can turn video features on or off rather than having to choose video every time. Spotify’s April 9, 2026 guidance places video controls under Settings > Content and display. The preferences apply across mobile, desktop, web, and TV, and include controls for Canvas looping visuals and videos for music or podcasts. Family Plan managers can manage video for plan members in subscription settings. Spotify said rollout of these settings for Premium and Basic plans and free users would begin globally that month; the exact controls available can depend on the account and rollout.

What Spotify’s engagement numbers do—and do not—show
Spotify reported in 2025 that people who discovered a track with a Spotify music video were 34% more likely to stream it again in the following week than people who discovered the song but did not watch the video. It also reported that people who watched after discovering a track were 24% more likely to save or share it in the following week. For “super listeners” engaging with an artist’s video, Spotify reported an average of 85% more active streaming of that artist in the next month. These are company-reported associations; they do not establish that watching a video caused the later listening or saving.
Spotify also reported that more than 70% of respondents said more video content would enhance their Spotify experience. The Burson survey had 8,400 respondents across 19 markets and ran August 27–October 3, 2025. It records what respondents said, not an independent assessment of the feature’s quality.
