Where SHOWTIME now lives
Two SHOWTIME Help Center articles frame the current setup. One confirms that the standalone SHOWTIME app is no longer available. The other says that new subscribers who want to stream SHOWTIME programming should get the Paramount+ with SHOWTIME plan through Paramount+.

Any guide that still tells readers to download a separate SHOWTIME app or to sign in to a standalone SHOWTIME account is out of date.
Why access stops when you travel
The U.S. Paramount+ Terms of Use apply in the United States and in the listed U.S. territories. They require subscribers to be located in their subscribing territory, and they state the limit directly in a sentence dated September 15, 2026:

“You will not be able to access the Service when travelling outside of the Territory.”
In practice, a U.S. subscription is a right to watch from within the territory where it was purchased. Travelling abroad does not change the account, but it does take you outside the terms that govern it. Content access can also depend on plan, location, rights, connectivity, and equipment, so a catalog you see at home is not guaranteed to match what you see elsewhere.

The VPN rule and how Paramount+ enforces it
The same U.S. terms expressly prohibit using a virtual private network to access or sign up for the service, including to circumvent geographic restrictions. This applies whether you are trying to stream, create an account, or subscribe while outside the territory.
Paramount+ also has a technical check. Its Help Center explains that a VPN/proxy warning means the service has detected a VPN, proxy, or other software that is rerouting traffic outside your current region. The message tells you to disable those services in order to stream. Paramount+ describes this as detection of rerouted traffic, not as a guarantee about any particular provider or connection, so the warning is the outcome to expect rather than a sign that a given setup will fail in a predictable way.

For a reader, this means a VPN is not a dependable way to watch SHOWTIME abroad. It is prohibited by the terms, and it can trigger the warning that stops playback.
Legitimate options while you are abroad
Only two options are consistent with the published terms. Compare them on the factors below.

The local option is a starting point, not a shortcut. A Paramount+ listing in a country tells you the service is offered there. It does not establish that the U.S. SHOWTIME catalog is available there, and it does not establish that your U.S. subscription entitlement can be used there. Check the destination’s own plans and catalog before you assume anything.

Checklist before you travel
- Confirm which plan you hold. New subscribers should use the Paramount+ with SHOWTIME plan, and the Paramount+ Help Center plan details page is dated September 24, 2026.
- Check the Paramount+ Global Home regions page to see whether Paramount+ is offered in your destination.
- If it is offered, review that country’s plans and catalog before you pay for anything, and look specifically for the SHOWTIME titles you want to watch.
- Download anything the local service permits you to download, while you have a connection in your home territory, if the local service allows offline viewing. Confirm this in the app first.
- Do not rely on a VPN to sign in, sign up, or stream.
If you see the VPN or proxy message
The warning is usually a sign that something on your device or network is rerouting traffic. Work through the following steps before you contact support.

Don't use search engines or shortened versions of the website address, as these may lead you to fake or fraudulent sites. Do not provide any Gift Card details (example: Card Number) to someone you do not know or trust. If you believe you've reached an illegitimate website, contact cardholder service at 1-888-524-1283. Be cautious of phishing sites, there are a variety of scams in which fraudsters try to trick others into paying with gift cards.
- To report your Lost or Stolen Physical Visa Card, call Customer Service 24/7 at 1 (888) 524-1283 to cancel your Gift Card as soon as you can. You will be asked to provide the Gift Card number and other identifying information.
- Use your Visa Gift Card in the U.S. everywhere Visa debit cards are accepted, including online.
- Turn off any VPN app, browser proxy setting, or software that routes traffic through another region.
- Fully quit the app, not just the window, so that background services stop running.
- Restart the device if the warning persists, then try again from your subscribing territory.
- If the message continues with nothing rerouting your traffic, read the Paramount+ Help Center article on the VPN/proxy warning and then contact Paramount+ support.
If you are outside your subscribing territory, the warning is expected. The terms do not allow access from there, so the fix is to watch from within the territory, or to use a locally offered Paramount+ service where it exists.

These rules reflect the Paramount+ and SHOWTIME materials available in October 2026. The U.S. Terms of Use were dated September 15, 2026. Regional availability, plans, catalogs, and detection methods can change, so check the current terms and the destination-country Paramount+ pages before you rely on them.
