Install Netflix from the App Store, sign in, play a title, then tap the screen and open Audio & Subtitles to choose an available subtitle language. Netflix’s current app requires iPadOS 18 or later, although people who previously downloaded it may be eligible to redownload it on iOS 12 or later.
Install Netflix and start watching

Tap Get or the cloud download icon. When the installation finishes, open Netflix from the Home Screen.

Enter the email address and password for your Netflix account, then sign in.

Choose a show or movie and start playback.
Netflix lists iOS/iPadOS 18 or later as the requirement for its current app. If you downloaded Netflix before, you may be able to redownload it on a device running iOS 12 or later; that older threshold is for redownloading, not access to the current app. Netflix’s iPhone and iPad instructions cover installation and compatibility.
Turn on subtitles or change the audio

While the title is playing, tap the iPad screen to show the player controls.

Open Audio & Subtitles or the subtitle and audio options shown in the player.

Select an available subtitle language. You can also choose an alternate audio track from the same controls.

The choices are title-specific. If the language you want is not listed for that show or movie, there is no separate iPad setting that adds it. Netflix explains the player controls in its iPhone and iPad help guide.
Enable audio descriptions
For audio descriptions, open Settings > Accessibility > Audio Descriptions on the iPad. Return to Netflix, start the title, open Audio & Subtitles, and choose an audio option that includes Audio Description. These steps follow Netflix’s iPhone and iPad audio-description instructions.

Download titles for offline viewing
Netflix supports downloads on iOS devices running version 12 or later. Downloads for titles in an ad-supported experience require iOS/iPadOS 16 or later. Not every show or movie is available to download, so look for the download option on the title rather than assuming the whole catalog is available offline. Netflix’s device guidance lists these requirements.

These are Netflix’s documented device thresholds, not a guarantee that every title or playback session will reach the listed format. Netflix cautions that some mobile devices may not always stream in HDR even when an HDR label appears. Check its iPad playback specifications for the supported models.

Watch Netflix on a TV or external display
AirPlay from an iPad is not a supported Netflix option: Netflix says, “Using AirPlay with iPhone and iPad is not supported with Netflix.” Its listed casting options include Chromecast (3rd generation or older, without a physical remote), Google Nest Hub Smart Displays, and select cast-enabled Vizio and Compal TVs. Compatibility varies by receiving device, so check whether your specific TV or display is supported rather than assuming any smart TV can cast Netflix.
For a wired connection, a USB-C iPad can connect to an HDMI display using Apple’s USB-C Digital AV Multiport Adapter, which Netflix recommends; other adapters may work, but Netflix warns that an adapter or device may not be supported. A USB-C or Thunderbolt display connection also needs a cable that supports high-resolution video playback. Netflix notes that downloaded video may appear with black bars on an external display. See its casting and mirroring guidance before choosing a setup.
