Naruto and Sasuke fights in order
| Order | Series or arc | Episode placement | Type of encounter | What you need to know |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Naruto: Valley of the End | Original-series episode number is not listed here | Direct duel | The childhood-era battle that defines the rivalry |
| 2 | Naruto: Shippuden: early reunion and confrontation | Often labeled 51–52; confirm the numbering and episode titles in the official listing you use | Direct confrontation | Naruto has returned after the time skip and catches up with Sasuke |
| 3 | Naruto: Shippuden: post–Five Kage Summit confrontation | Often labeled 215–216; confirm the numbering and episode titles in the official listing you use | Direct confrontation | Their relationship reaches another decisive break after the summit crisis |
| 4 | Naruto: Shippuden: “A Heart Filled with Comrades” | 604 | Shared battle | Naruto and Sasuke coordinate against Obito; this is not a duel |
| 5 | Naruto: Shippuden: “The Final Valley” | 695 | Direct duel | The final clash begins after the Kaguya conflict |
| 6 | Naruto: Shippuden: “The Final Battle” | 696 | Direct duel, continued | The conclusion of the Naruto–Sasuke confrontation |
The official Naruto: Shippuden overview places episodes 690–699 in the “Naruto and Sasuke” arc. That arc range is useful when a streaming service groups episodes by story section rather than displaying the individual titles.

How these encounters differ
The entries are easier to remember if you separate them by series era, purpose and opponent. The first battle is the rivalry’s origin point in the original series. The early Shippuden meeting tests whether their bond survived the time skip. The post-summit encounter places their personal conflict inside a political emergency. Episode 604 temporarily changes the pattern: Naruto and Sasuke are partners against Obito, not opponents. Episodes 695 and 696 return to a direct duel and provide the concluding two-part sequence.
#1 Best Overall
| Moment | Series era | Opponent | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|---|
| Valley of the End | Original Naruto | Each other | Establishes the emotional and visual foundation of the rivalry |
| Early reunion | Early Shippuden | Each other in a confrontation | Shows the distance created by Naruto’s training and Sasuke’s chosen path |
| Post–Five Kage Summit | Middle Shippuden | Each other amid a wider crisis | Makes their disagreement inseparable from the shinobi world’s future |
| Episode 604 | War-era Shippuden | Obito | Demonstrates that they can coordinate despite unresolved differences |
| Episodes 695–696 | “Naruto and Sasuke” arc | Each other | Begins and concludes the final clash at the same valley as their first battle |
How to use this watchlist
Start with the original-series Valley of the End battle, then move into Shippuden. The official series overview describes Shippuden as beginning nearly two and a half years after that intense battle, so the first entry and the later entries belong to different series eras.
The list is designed for viewers who want the rivalry’s turning points without watching every episode in the franchise. It does not replace the full story around the Akatsuki, the Five Kage Summit, the Fourth Shinobi World War, or the Kaguya conflict. Those surrounding arcs explain why each meeting changes in tone, so use the preparation notes under each entry to avoid dropping into a confrontation without its essential setup.
1. Original Naruto: Valley of the End
Why it comes first
This is the narrative starting point for the major Naruto–Sasuke rivalry. It is their childhood-era clash at the Final Valley and establishes the emotional pattern that later encounters revisit: Naruto refuses to abandon Sasuke, while Sasuke treats separation and solitary strength as necessary choices.

Episode numbering was not verified for this entry, and different services can present seasons or collections differently. Search for the original Naruto story section titled “Valley of the End” or confirm the episode title in the official episode list rather than relying on an unverified number.
What to watch for
- The location matters: later episodes return to the same valley, making it a visual and emotional reference point.
- This is a direct duel, not a team mission or a temporary alliance.
- Watch it before Shippuden; the official overview frames the sequel as taking place after a time skip of nearly two and a half years.
2. Early Naruto: Shippuden reunion and confrontation
Where it fits
After Naruto returns from his extended training period, his team catches up with Sasuke. The meeting belongs near the beginning of the Shippuden portion of the rivalry and should follow the original Valley of the End battle.
Episode guides commonly present this material as episodes 51–52, but the numbering should be checked against the current official listing and the exact episode titles on the service you use. If a platform’s season numbers do not match, search by the reunion or confrontation arc rather than jumping to a number alone.
Why this meeting matters
The time skip changes the physical and narrative distance between the characters. Naruto is no longer trying to retrieve a teammate he saw every day; he is confronting someone who has deliberately chosen a separate path. The encounter therefore functions as a test of whether their earlier bond can survive the years apart.
Do not treat this as the final resolution. It is an early Shippuden confrontation that establishes the stakes for later meetings. The rivalry continues through additional political and wartime turning points.
3. Post–Five Kage Summit confrontation
Episode placement
The next major direct encounter follows the Five Kage Summit crisis. Episode guides often label the relevant material as episodes 215–216, but those numbers should be confirmed against the official episode list and titles before viewing. Arc names are safer than season labels when a service reorganizes the show.
Story context
By this point, Naruto and Sasuke are no longer meeting simply as former teammates. The summit’s aftermath places Sasuke’s decisions inside a wider political emergency, while Naruto’s attempts to prevent further destruction become inseparable from his promise to bring Sasuke back. That context is essential: the confrontation is both personal and tied to the fate of the shinobi world.
Rank #2
Watch this entry after the early Shippuden reunion. Placing it earlier removes the political developments that explain why the two characters approach each other with greater urgency and less room for compromise.

4. Episode 604: “A Heart Filled with Comrades”
This is a shared battle, not Naruto versus Sasuke
Episode 604 belongs in the watchlist because Naruto and Sasuke fight on the same side against Obito. The official synopsis describes them sizing up Obito and preparing to attack in sync, echoing the coordinated approach associated with Madara and Hashirama.
Calling this a “Naruto vs. Sasuke” episode is misleading. They are not trying to defeat each other here. Their techniques and timing are temporarily aligned against a common opponent, making the episode a crucial contrast with the earlier and later duels.
How to place it
Watch episode 604 after the earlier confrontations and during the war-era material that leads into their cooperation. It occurs before the final Valley of the End sequence, so it should not be treated as an alternate ending or as a replacement for episodes 695–696.
What the episode adds to the rivalry
- It shows that Naruto and Sasuke can still coordinate at the highest level when their immediate objective overlaps.
- It turns their history of opposition into a tactical advantage without resolving their ideological disagreement.
- It provides a deliberate visual and thematic echo of the legendary Madara–Hashirama partnership referenced in the episode summary.
5. Episode 695: “The Final Valley”
The beginning of the final clash
Episode 695 is the first half of the final Naruto–Sasuke confrontation. The official summary states that the Kaguya conflict has ended and that Naruto and Sasuke begin their final clash at the valley where their first fateful conflict took place.
The title is not just a location label. Returning to the Final Valley connects this battle directly to the original-series duel and makes the confrontation a deliberate closing point for the rivalry’s repeated cycles.
What must come before it
Complete the Kaguya conflict before starting episode 695. The episode summary assumes that crisis has ended and moves immediately into Naruto and Sasuke’s final dispute. Starting here without that transition can make the change from a shared wartime objective to a personal confrontation appear abrupt.
Why episode 695 is not the whole final fight
Episode 695 begins the battle but does not finish it. Treat it as the first part of a two-episode sequence and continue directly to episode 696.
6. Episode 696: “The Final Battle”
The continuation and conclusion
Episode 696 continues the confrontation that begins in “The Final Valley.” The episode synopsis frames the conflict around Sasuke’s wish to carry the world’s burdens alone and Naruto’s opposition to that choice.

Rank #3
Why this is the endpoint of the list
The episode completes the major Naruto–Sasuke duel sequence after the story has passed through their childhood conflict, their failed attempts at reconciliation, their political confrontation, and their temporary cooperation against a shared enemy. It is the answer to the question “Which episode is their final fight?”: the final fight starts in episode 695 and continues through episode 696.
Episode-numbering and platform checks
Use titles and arcs when numbers do not match
Streaming services can divide seasons differently, especially when a long series is packaged into regional collections. For the early Shippuden entries in this list, verify both the number and the episode title. The final entries are more straightforward because the official sequence identifies “The Final Valley” as episode 695 and “The Final Battle” as episode 696.
Confirm the series name
Keep the original Naruto entry separate from Naruto: Shippuden. A search for “Valley of the End” can return results from both series, and selecting the wrong series can place the first battle after the time skip instead of before it.

Check whether your service displays the arc
The official overview groups episodes 690–699 under the “Naruto and Sasuke” arc. If your service shows arc headings, use that label to locate the final sequence, then select episodes 695 and 696 by title.
What to watch before each entry
There is no single shortcut that supplies all of the surrounding story, but the minimum context differs by battle. Before the original Valley of the End, follow the original Naruto material far enough to understand Naruto and Sasuke as teammates and rivals. Before the early Shippuden reunion, remember that nearly two and a half years have passed and that Naruto is returning from training. Before the post-summit confrontation, watch the political crisis that makes Sasuke’s actions a threat beyond the Team 7 relationship. Before episode 604, reach the war-era material in which Obito is the common opponent. Before episode 695, complete the Kaguya conflict, because the episode opens after that crisis has ended.
If you are watching only the confrontations, write down the series name alongside each number. The number 604 means Naruto: Shippuden episode 604, not an episode of the original series. Likewise, 695 and 696 belong to the late “Naruto and Sasuke” arc, while the first Valley of the End entry belongs to the original show.
Direct duel or shared battle?
This distinction is the most important warning in the list. A direct duel means Naruto and Sasuke are confronting one another. The original Valley of the End, the early reunion, the post-summit encounter and episodes 695–696 belong in that category, although their immediate circumstances and goals differ. Episode 604 is different: the two characters coordinate against Obito. It is valuable precisely because it interrupts the duel pattern and shows what their partnership looks like when they temporarily share an objective.
Do not move episode 604 after episode 696 simply because it is a team-up. Chronologically, it belongs during the war-era material before the final Valley of the End sequence. Its placement also explains why the final duel feels like a return to unresolved personal and ideological conflict rather than a continuation of a permanent alliance.
A spoiler-conscious viewing plan
- Watch the original Naruto Valley of the End entry. Confirm the title in the official listing because an episode number is not supplied here.
- Move to early Shippuden. Find the reunion and confrontation after Naruto returns. If your guide labels it 51–52, verify those numbers and titles first.
- Continue to the post–Five Kage Summit confrontation. Guides may label it 215–216; confirm the listing before starting.
- Watch episode 604. Expect a coordinated attack against Obito, not a duel.
- Watch episode 695, “The Final Valley.” This starts the final clash after the Kaguya conflict.
- Watch episode 696, “The Final Battle.” This continues and concludes the final confrontation.
Common ordering mistakes
Starting with episode 695
Episodes 695 and 696 are the final confrontation, but they are less effective without the original Valley of the End battle and the intervening meetings. The final episodes deliberately return to the same location, so the first duel should come first.
Calling episode 604 a duel
Episode 604 is a Naruto–Sasuke team-up against Obito. Listing it as a Naruto-versus-Sasuke fight creates the wrong expectation and obscures why the episode is important.
Confusing the two Valley of the End battles
The original Naruto entry is the childhood-era clash. Episode 695 is the later final clash in Shippuden. They share a setting and rivalry, but they are separated by the time skip and the major events of the sequel.
Assuming the list is a complete series order
This is a curated rivalry watchlist. It does not provide every episode needed to follow the wider plot, and it should not be used as a substitute for a full Naruto or Shippuden episode guide.
Trusting a season number without checking the title
Season labels vary more often than the official episode titles. This matters most for the early entries, whose commonly cited numbers are not confirmed here. If a service presents a different season and episode combination, use the arc or title first, then verify the numbered listing.
Treating the arc range as six consecutive fights
The “Naruto and Sasuke” arc covers episodes 690–699, but the recommended battle sequence uses episodes 695 and 696 from that range. The arc heading is a locator, not a claim that every episode from 690 through 699 is a direct Naruto-versus-Sasuke confrontation.

A Naruto: Shippuden DVD collection can be useful if you prefer discs, but check the exact listing before buying. Confirm the region, language options, edition, and episode coverage; collections can differ in what they include. No current price or universal regional availability is established here, so compare the listing with the episode numbers you need rather than assuming every box contains the same material. Physical manga volumes are another way to revisit the story, but manga chapters are not an episode-order substitute and should be treated as a separate format.

Which episode is Naruto and Sasuke’s final fight?
The final fight begins in Naruto: Shippuden episode 695, “The Final Valley,” and continues in episode 696, “The Final Battle.” Watch both in sequence.
Is episode 604 a Naruto-versus-Sasuke fight?
No. Episode 604, “A Heart Filled with Comrades,” is a coordinated Naruto–Sasuke attack against Obito. It is a shared battle, not a duel.
Should I watch the original Naruto Valley of the End battle first?
Yes. It is the narrative starting point for this selective rivalry list, and the later final battle returns to the same valley. Keep the original series separate from Shippuden.
Are episodes 51–52 and 215–216 confirmed everywhere?
Those ranges are commonly used for the early reunion and post–Five Kage Summit confrontation, but numbering can differ by guide or season packaging. Verify the episode titles and numbers against the official listing you use.
Do I need to watch the entire series for this order to make sense?
You do not need a complete series rewatch to use the list, but the surrounding Akatsuki, summit, war and Kaguya material supplies important context. The preparation notes identify the minimum story situation each entry assumes.
Best Value
- Note: This is a set 2 series among set1-11 Set 2 doesn't describe the number of sets.
Why is the final arc listed as episodes 690–699 if the final fight is only 695–696?
The official overview labels episodes 690–699 as the “Naruto and Sasuke” arc. Episodes 695 and 696 are the specific titles that begin and conclude the final clash.
Can I use the manga instead of these episodes?
The manga is a related reading option, not an episode-order substitute. This guide is organized around the anime series and its episode titles.
What should I check before buying a DVD set?
Check the region, language options, edition and episode coverage in the exact listing. A collection may not contain every episode in this watchlist, and current prices or availability depend on the seller and market.

Final sequence at a glance
For the shortest accurate answer, watch the original Naruto Valley of the End battle, the early Shippuden reunion, the post–Five Kage Summit confrontation, episode 604’s shared battle against Obito, and then episodes 695 and 696 in that order. The final Naruto–Sasuke fight is the two-episode sequence beginning with “The Final Valley” and continuing with “The Final Battle.”
Frequently Asked Questions
Which episode is Naruto and Sasuke’s final fight?
It starts in Naruto: Shippuden episode 695, “The Final Valley,” and concludes in episode 696, “The Final Battle.”
Is episode 604 a Naruto-versus-Sasuke duel?
No. Naruto and Sasuke coordinate against Obito, so episode 604 is a shared battle rather than a duel.
Why begin with the original Naruto series?
The original Valley of the End clash establishes the rivalry, and Shippuden begins nearly two and a half years later.
What if my streaming service uses different episode numbers?
Use the series name, arc heading and episode title together. Verify the early ranges commonly labeled 51–52 and 215–216 against the listing available in your region.
Is this a complete Naruto viewing order?
No. It is a selective watchlist of major Naruto–Sasuke encounters, not a full franchise episode guide.
Do I need the Kaguya conflict before episode 695?
Yes. Episode 695 begins after that conflict has ended, so its transition makes more sense when you have completed the preceding crisis.
Can the manga replace this anime order?
No. Manga volumes are a separate format; this guide is organized by anime episodes.
What should I verify on a DVD listing?
Check region, language options, edition and episode coverage before buying. Current price and availability vary by listing.
The Bottom Line
For a focused Naruto–Sasuke watchlist, go from the original Naruto Valley of the End battle to the early Shippuden reunion, the post–Five Kage Summit confrontation, episode 604’s team-up against Obito, and finally episodes 695–696. The last two episodes are the complete final fight.
