MLB bases blackout eligibility on your physical location—not just your account’s home address—and its terms prohibit trying to defeat those restrictions. Before traveling, check the exact game and destination in MLB’s blackout listing; if live video is unavailable, use an authorized local option, listen to MLB+ audio, or watch the archive after the game.
Why MLB.TV blackouts can follow you on vacation
MLB says blackout restrictions are based on geography and apply according to your physical location, which may be determined using factors including your IP address. That means having a home-team subscription or an account registered at home does not guarantee access while you are elsewhere.

Home television territory restrictions apply whether the club is playing at home or away, and regardless of whether the game is actually televised in that territory. Some U.S. clubs’ territories may also extend beyond the United States. Check MLB’s current blackout and package information for the destination and specific game; restrictions and listings can change.
What to do before your trip
- Identify the game. Note the teams and date, since eligibility can vary from one matchup to another.
- Check the destination. Use MLB’s current blackout information for the place where you will be watching. Do not rely only on your home address or a past trip’s result.
- Look for an authorized live-video option. Check MLB’s partner directory for the relevant team or network, then confirm directly with the service that it carries the game and permits viewing in your destination.
- Check provider and national-game conditions. Some games may be subject to national exclusivity or require an eligible participating pay-TV provider and authentication. Review the current package terms for the game you want.
- Choose a fallback. If no authorized live video option works for your location, MLB+ offers live audio of all 30 teams without blackouts, or you can watch the game archive after it becomes available.
Authorized ways to follow a blacked-out game
Use a local club or network service
Depending on the destination and game, the club’s or network’s authorized streaming service may carry the live broadcast. Availability is not universal: confirm that the exact game is included and that the service allows access from your vacation location. MLB’s partner listing is a starting point, not a guarantee that every listed service covers every game or place.

Watch the archive after the game

MLB’s terms prohibit circumventing or attempting to circumvent home television territory blackouts and other use restrictions. They state that a subscription may be terminated immediately, that a $100 early-termination charge may apply, and that the subscriber may face legal action. MLB also prohibits password sharing. For those reasons, VPNs, proxies, account sharing, and other location-spoofing methods are not supported ways to watch a blacked-out game.

Check the exact game, place, and viewing format
Before paying for another service, verify five details: whether it carries the exact game, whether your destination is eligible, whether access is live video or only audio/on-demand, whether pay-TV authentication is required, and the service’s current price and renewal terms. The MLB.TV package page lists $69.99 per season and MLB+ lists $59.99 yearly in the package information reviewed on October 4, 2026; these are changeable prices, so confirm them on MLB’s live listing before buying.
