When you travel, check the game’s availability at your actual location before choosing a stream. MLB.TV is MLB’s official option for live or on-demand video of out-of-market games, but a game can still be unavailable live because of your location, a national broadcast, or another restriction. If you are in your team’s home territory, check whether that club offers a local streaming service instead.
First, check whether the game is available where you are
MLB.TV availability depends on where you are watching, not just which team is at home or away. MLB says it may determine your physical location using factors such as your IP address. A home-territory blackout can apply even when your team is playing on the road.

- Open MLB’s package page and use its ZIP-code restriction checker. Check the location where you will watch, not only your home address. For a trip, check the destination ZIP code.
- Check the specific game’s restrictions. A national exclusivity or another listed restriction may prevent a live stream even if the game would otherwise be out of market.
- Confirm the result close to game time. MLB’s restrictions, local-service territories, and offers can change. Do not assume that a subscription guarantees every game live.
The restriction checker is a useful advance check, but MLB says location may be inferred from multiple factors. If you are unsure, check MLB’s current game and package information from the device and location you plan to use.

If you are out of market, start with MLB.TV
MLB describes MLB.TV as providing live and on-demand access to out-of-market games, through MLB or ESPN in its U.S. package description. It is the first option to investigate when you are traveling away from your club’s home territory. It is not a universal live pass: blackouts and national exclusivities still apply.

MLB’s 2026 package page showed MLB.TV at $69.99 per season and MLB+ at $59.99 per year. A separate official page variation displayed a promotional $29.99 seasonal MLB.TV offer, while MLB’s March 10, 2026 guide described full-season pricing of $99.99 or $19.99 monthly for non-RSN teams. Those differing figures show why you should treat displayed prices as time- and offer-specific: verify the price, eligibility, and terms on the package page and at checkout before subscribing.
If you are in-market, check your club’s local streaming service
MLB’s March 10, 2026 guide said 22 of 30 clubs offered in-market streaming subscriptions without local blackouts. These club services address a different situation from MLB.TV’s out-of-market package: they may let eligible viewers stream a club’s games within its home territory. Whether one is available to you depends on the team and its defined territory.

The same guide listed a $199.99 season or $39.99 monthly bundle combining a club local service with MLB.TV, described as a 20% saving versus individual pricing. Those were guide-published 2026 offer details, not guaranteed current prices. Check the club’s own service page and checkout for the current territory, included games, and cost.
When live video is blocked, use a fallback
Watch the archive
For a game that is unavailable live, MLB says its archive may become available about 90 minutes after the game concludes. This is a delayed option, not a way to watch the game live. Availability and timing can vary, so check the game page after it ends.

Listen to live audio
MLB describes live audio for unavailable games as included with MLB.TV. MLB+ offers live audio for all 30 teams without blackouts. Check the current package page for the applicable audio terms before relying on it.
Set up your phone or tablet before first pitch
MLB says MLB.TV and Club.TV subscribers can stream in the MLB app. The available information does not establish a complete, current list of supported tablet models or operating-system versions, so check the app store listing and MLB’s support information for your device.

- Install the MLB app and sign in before game time.
- Test the stream from the place where you expect to watch, especially when traveling.
- Use a reliable internet connection; a device that supports the app does not guarantee that a hotel or public Wi-Fi connection will support uninterrupted video.
- Do not rely on location-spoofing tools to evade blackout rules. Check the permitted package for your actual location instead.
A tablet can be a convenient viewing screen, but it does not change a game’s blackout status or establish that a particular device is compatible.

- You are still within the club’s home territory. A blackout can follow the territory, including for an away game.
- The game has national or special-event rights. A national exclusivity may supersede ordinary out-of-market availability.
- The location check identifies a different location than expected. MLB says it can use factors including IP address to determine where you are watching.
- You are checking U.S. rules against an international trip. International packages and restrictions differ, and some U.S. territorial limits may extend abroad.
Use MLB’s restriction checker and current game information for the location where you will actually watch. If live video is not available, check the archive and audio options rather than assuming that changing devices will remove the restriction.
