How to Watch MLB Games on a TV, Phone, or Tablet in 2026

The best way to watch an MLB game in 2026 depends on your physical location, the team you want, and whether that game is subject to a blackout or national exclusive. Use MLB.TV for most out-of-market games, a participating team’s local streaming service for eligible in-market games, or a cable, satellite, or telecom provider when that club’s local broadcast is distributed through television. In the United States, MLB.TV subscribers can watch through the MLB app and the ESPN app; internationally, MLB.TV access is provided through MLB’s own service.

Before subscribing, check the game’s listing, your ZIP code, the exact device you own, and the current package and renewal terms. No app or streaming device can override geographic rights.

Choose the right way to watch first

There is no single MLB package that includes every game for every viewer. The decision is primarily about location and rights, not whether you are using a television, phone, or tablet.

How to watch out-of-market games with MLB.TV

MLB.TV is MLB’s out-of-market streaming service. It is designed for games outside your local television territory, with access delivered through the MLB app and, for U.S. subscribers, the ESPN app. A subscription does not guarantee every game: local blackouts and national exclusives still apply.

Before you subscribe

  1. Identify the team and games you actually need. An out-of-market package may be unnecessary if all of your team’s games are local to you.
  2. Use MLB’s ZIP-code restriction check to see whether your physical location is inside a club’s home television territory.
  3. Open the live schedule and inspect the specific game for a national or special-event exclusive.
  4. Confirm that your TV, phone, tablet, or streaming device supports the MLB app or ESPN app you intend to use.
  5. Review the current package price, billing interval, and renewal language on the seller’s checkout page. MLB’s 2026 pages show different offers by package and distribution channel.

Watch in the MLB app

On a supported smart TV, streaming device, phone, or tablet, install the MLB app, sign in with the account that owns MLB.TV, and open the live game from the viewing area. The exact menus differ by platform. On Android mobile, MLB’s help instructions specify Watch, then MLB.TV, followed by the available live or archived game.

Watch through the ESPN app in the United States

MLB’s 2026 FAQ describes MLB.TV access in the ESPN app for U.S. subscribers. Install the ESPN app on a supported device, sign in, and complete the account-linking or subscription verification prompt when requested. The ESPN distribution offer is described for the U.S. market; international subscribers should use the MLB route where service is available.

How to watch your local MLB team

MLB.TV is not automatically the right choice for a team in your home market. Local television territory restrictions can block a game even when the team is playing away, because eligibility is based on your physical location and the club’s rights area.

Use a local club streaming service

For 2026, MLB lists 22 clubs with in-market streaming subscriptions intended to remove local blackouts for eligible viewers in the team’s home territory. Team names, prices, supported devices, included games, and renewal arrangements vary. Select the club from MLB’s current local-options list, enter your location, and read the service’s terms before paying.

  • Shows on the go: Take your TV to-go when traveling—without needing to log into someone else’s device.

Use your television provider

Some clubs continue to distribute local games through cable, satellite, or telecom television providers. The channel and provider are market-specific. Check the club’s current broadcast information or your provider’s guide for the exact channel and game time.

Check an individual game instead of assuming

Home-versus-away status is not enough to predict availability. A game can be unavailable because of a local-territory restriction, a national exclusive, or a special-event arrangement. Check the live schedule for the game and the ZIP-code tool for your location.

Can I watch MLB.TV on my TV?

Yes, if the television or connected device supports the MLB app or ESPN app. MLB’s 2026 ESPN FAQ lists support for web browsers, iOS, tvOS, Android mobile, Android TV, Fire TV, Fire Tablet, Samsung TV, LG, Vizio, Roku, Xbox, PlayStation, Xumo, and Cox. The list describes supported platforms, not every model or every feature; check the current app listing for your exact hardware.

Smart TV or streaming platform setup

  1. Connect the television or streaming device to the internet and install pending system updates.
  2. Open the device’s app store and search for the MLB app or ESPN app.
  3. Install the app, then sign in with the account that has the relevant subscription.
  4. If using ESPN, follow its account-linking or subscription-verification instructions.
  5. Open the game from the live schedule and confirm that the picture, sound, and captions work before the first pitch.

If the app does not appear, the device may be unsupported, the app may not be offered in your region, or the manufacturer may require a newer operating-system version. Do not assume that two televisions with the same brand name have identical app support.

Using a Fire TV device with an older television

A compatible Fire TV streaming device can provide access to an app when the television itself lacks a supported app. MLB lists Fire TV among ESPN app platforms. The device delivers the app; it does not include an MLB.TV subscription, change your account’s rights, or remove blackouts. Verify current model compatibility and app availability before buying.

How to watch on an Android phone or tablet

Install the MLB app from the device’s app store, sign in, and use the app’s viewing section. MLB’s Android instructions give this path: Watch → MLB.TV → choose an available live or archived game.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Connect to reliable Wi-Fi or a sufficiently fast mobile-data connection.
  2. Update the MLB app and Android system if updates are offered.
  3. Sign in to the account holding MLB.TV or the applicable subscription.
  4. Open Watch, select MLB.TV, and choose the game.
  5. If video is unavailable, check the game’s blackout or exclusivity notice. MLB also offers live audio as an alternative when video cannot be shown.

On iPhone or iPad, install the MLB app, sign in, and use the current Watch/live-game controls. Menu names can change between app versions, so follow the labels shown on your device rather than an older screenshot.

Blackouts: what they mean and how to check them

MLB says blackout restrictions are determined by geography and your physical location. They are not a simple rule that blocks only home games or only games played in one stadium. A local club’s home television territory can cover games involving that club, and rights can differ when you travel.

Check your location

Enter your ZIP code in MLB’s local-restriction tool before purchasing. If you travel, the location where you are physically watching can affect what is available. A subscription purchased in one place does not guarantee the same live-game access everywhere.

Check the game’s rights

Review the live schedule for a notice about national exclusivity or another distribution arrangement. Certain regular-season, special-event, and postseason games may be carried by a national partner instead of MLB.TV or a club package.

What a streaming device cannot do

Changing from a television to a phone, adding a streaming stick, or switching between the MLB and ESPN apps does not change blackout eligibility. Rights are attached to the game and your location, not to the screen you use.

National exclusives and games missing from a package

A game can be unavailable through MLB.TV even when you are outside both teams’ local markets. National media agreements can make selected regular-season games, special events, or postseason games exclusive to another service. The live schedule is the authoritative place to see the distribution notice for an individual matchup.

When a game is exclusive, use the named national partner’s app or television channel and check whether that service requires its own subscription or television login. Do not buy a second MLB package expecting it to unlock a nationally exclusive broadcast.

Watching archived games and listening instead of watching

MLB’s live-stream page says an on-demand game archive becomes available 90 minutes after the game concludes. In the Android MLB app, archived MLB.TV games are available through the same viewing area used for live games.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Archives are useful when a live blackout or schedule conflict prevents viewing, but they do not necessarily provide a live replacement for an exclusive game. If live video is unavailable, MLB’s Android help page identifies live audio as an alternative.

International viewing

MLB.TV is available internationally through MLB, but rights and restrictions are country-specific. The ESPN app distribution described in MLB’s 2026 materials is for the United States. Before traveling or subscribing outside the U.S., check the international offer for your country, the game schedule, and any local broadcaster or blackout notice.

Costs, packages, and renewal terms

There is no single 2026 price that applies to every viewing route. Official MLB pages show different prices and offers for different packages and channels, while local club services set market-specific prices. A television provider may bundle a local channel into a broader plan rather than sell a standalone baseball package.

Prices and terms can change during the season. Use the current checkout page for the relevant package and keep a record of the renewal date if you do not want an automatic continuation.

Troubleshooting common viewing problems

The game is listed but video will not play

  • Check the ZIP-code restriction tool and your current physical location.
  • Read the game listing for a national-exclusive notice.
  • Sign out and back in to confirm that the correct subscribed account is being used.
  • Update the app and device software, then restart the app.
  • Try the supported alternate app: MLB.TV subscribers in the U.S. may have access through both MLB and ESPN, subject to the same rights restrictions.

The app is missing from the TV

  • Confirm the exact model, operating-system version, and region of the television or streaming device.
  • Search the manufacturer’s app store rather than relying on a preinstalled-app list.
  • Use a supported external streaming device if the TV itself cannot run the app.

The subscription works on a phone but not on the TV

  • Make sure the TV app uses the same account that purchased the subscription.
  • Complete ESPN’s account-linking prompt if watching through ESPN.
  • Check whether the TV is in a different country or physical location from the phone.
  • Test another game to distinguish an account problem from a game-specific blackout or exclusive.

The stream is buffering

  • Use a stable Wi-Fi connection or wired network where possible.
  • Pause other high-bandwidth activity on the same network.
  • Restart the router and streaming device.
  • Lower video quality temporarily if the app offers that control.

A practical decision checklist

  1. Write down your physical viewing location and the team or games you care about.
  2. Check the ZIP-code restriction tool for local eligibility.
  3. Look at the specific game’s live schedule for blackout and exclusivity notices.
  4. Choose a local club service, MLB.TV, a television provider, or a national partner based on that result.
  5. Confirm support for the exact TV, phone, tablet, or streaming device.
  6. Review current price, billing, and renewal terms.
  7. Install the app, sign in, and test access before game time.

The simplest rule is: use a local club option or television provider for eligible in-market games, MLB.TV for out-of-market games, and the broadcaster named for any exclusive. Your device determines how you receive the stream; your location and the game’s rights determine whether you can receive it.

Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on Amazon at the time of purchase will apply.
