To watch live TV on a Samsung Smart TV, open Samsung TV Plus for internet-streamed channels, or connect an antenna and scan for local over-the-air stations. TV Plus requires an internet connection; an antenna is needed for antenna reception, not for TV Plus.
Choose how you want to watch
| Option | What it provides | What you need | Key limitation |
|---|---|---|---|
| Samsung TV Plus | Internet-streamed live channels | A supported Samsung TV and internet; Samsung account requirements may apply to network smart features | Availability varies by model and region, and the channel lineup can change. Samsung TV Plus and Samsung’s TV Plus support page provide current guidance. |
| Antenna | Local over-the-air broadcasts | An antenna connected to ANT IN, followed by a channel scan | Available stations and reception quality depend on your location and signal. Samsung’s channel-scan instructions cover setup. |
| Cable box | Your cable provider’s television service | Provider equipment connected to the TV | Use the box’s setup instructions and select its input; an antenna-style channel scan is generally not the box setup method. Samsung’s scan guide distinguishes antenna and cable scanning. |
Watch Samsung TV Plus
Samsung describes TV Plus as a free, ad-supported service. Its published compatibility guidance lists 2016-and-newer Samsung Smart TVs and projectors in select areas. The exact channels vary and can change, so check what is available on your TV rather than relying on a fixed channel count. Internet access is required. Samsung’s general setup guidance says a Samsung account is required for network-based smart services; follow the prompts shown on your TV and check regional support details. See Samsung’s TV Plus support page and Samsung account and Smart Hub setup guidance.

Get local channels with an antenna
An antenna can let the TV receive local over-the-air broadcasts without streaming them through TV Plus. Samsung says an antenna may help the TV find more channels and improve signal quality, but reception depends on local conditions and is not guaranteed.

- Open Settings or All Settings, then go to Broadcasting > Auto Program.
- Choose Air for antenna reception and start the scan. Follow the on-screen prompts; menu labels vary across models and software.
If the scan finds few or no channels, check that the coax connection is secure, reposition the antenna if practical, confirm the source is set to TV, and scan again. Channel results depend on location and signal conditions; Samsung does not promise a particular reception outcome. Follow Samsung’s channel-scan instructions for model-specific details.

Connect the provider’s box as directed by the cable provider, then select the TV input to which it is connected. Samsung’s Air and Cable options in Auto Program apply to antenna-only and cable-only scanning, respectively; they are not a substitute for configuring a connected provider box. If you are connecting cable service directly to the TV rather than using a box, consult your provider and the model-specific Samsung instructions before scanning.

Why live TV options may be missing
- TV Plus does not appear: Check that the TV is connected to the internet, that your model and region are supported, and whether the TV prompts you to sign in to a Samsung account. Availability and labels can differ across models and regions.
- Broadcasting is greyed out: Change the source to TV before opening Settings > Broadcasting.
- The antenna scan finds no channels: Recheck the antenna connection and placement, verify the TV source, and run Auto Program again with Air selected. A scan cannot guarantee stations where reception is insufficient.
- You use a cable box: Select the box’s input and follow the provider’s instructions instead of scanning as if the box were an antenna.
