Open the live event’s player, reveal its controls, and check both the captions/subtitles menu and the audio or language menu. Captions and alternate commentary are separate features, and neither is guaranteed for every game: the broadcaster must provide the track for that event, and your app, device, and region must support it.
Find captions or another audio track in the live player
- Open the event and show the player controls. Tap, click, or press the select/OK button while the video is playing; controls may disappear until you interact with the screen.
- Look for CC, captions, or subtitles. Choose the available language or caption option, then return to the game and check that text appears.
- Open Audio, Language, or Audio & Subtitles. Select an offered language or audio feed and listen briefly to confirm it changed.
- If there is no option, check the event listing and the service’s device-specific help. A platform may support captions generally without carrying them on this particular live feed.
Controls differ by service and device. ESPN documents a CC player button on many devices and device-specific settings paths for some platforms. Peacock exposes available choices through the player’s Audio & Subtitles menu. ESPN closed-captioning instructions; Peacock accessibility features.

Know which feature you need
- Captions or subtitles display spoken words as text. Closed captions may also describe sounds or other nonverbal information.
- SDH (subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing) is designed to include information beyond dialogue, similar to captions.
- Alternate commentary is a different spoken feed, such as commentary in another language. It is not the same as subtitles or audio description.
- Audio description (AD) is narration describing important visual action for viewers who are blind or have low vision. It is not simply a second commentary language.
Apple explains these accessibility distinctions and notes that feature availability can vary by country or region. Apple: Use subtitles and captioning on Apple TV.
What to expect on ESPN
Captions and language availability
ESPN says closed captioning is available on ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, ESPNews, ESPN Deportes, SEC Network, Longhorn Network, ESPN Goal Line, ESPN Buzzer Beater, and ESPN Bases Loaded, as well as selected ESPN3, SEC Network +, and ACC Network Extra content. Its broader guidance says captions are available on most content, English subtitles on most English videos, and Spanish subtitles on most Spanish videos; that wording does not promise coverage for every live event.

What to expect on Peacock
Subtitles
Peacock says subtitles are available across its content and platforms, with rare exceptions such as trailers. Choose the option from Audio & Subtitles in the player. On supported devices, device settings may also let you customize subtitle appearance. Check the live event itself rather than assuming a general content policy guarantees a particular feed.

Audio description
Peacock offers audio description on certain content and supported devices. Look for the Audio Description icon on the eligible title, then choose English (AD) in Audio & Subtitles. Some older devices listed by Peacock may not support this feature. Peacock accessibility features; Peacock audio description.
Why another commentary track may be missing
A language or audio menu can only show tracks supplied with the event’s broadcast. Some events provide a second-audio or language option; others do not. Even when a service carries the game, its feed may not include the commentary language you want. Check the event page or player for the specific track, and distinguish alternate commentary from audio description.

NBCUniversal, for example, announced that its Milan Cortina 2026 digital livestreams and full event replays from linear coverage would have closed captioning with commentary across Peacock, NBCSports.com, and the NBC Sports app. It also described AD on SAP for broadcast viewers and as an English audio choice in digital players for eligible livestreams and replays. Those arrangements were specific to that event; they do not establish a general rule for other sports or events. NBCUniversal: Milan Cortina 2026 accessibility features.
Troubleshoot when the option does not work
Captions or subtitles are absent
- Reopen the player controls and check both CC/captions and subtitles; they may appear in different menus.
- Consult the service’s instructions for your device. Where supported, check the device’s accessibility settings as well as the app’s player controls.
- Try another supported device if available, then check whether the event feed itself includes captions. Service-wide support does not establish event-by-event availability.
The audio or language option is absent
- Inspect Audio, Language, or Audio & Subtitles while the event is playing.
- Check the event listing for a named alternate feed or language. If none is offered, the broadcaster may not have provided another track.
- Confirm that you are using a supported app and device. Device compatibility can affect whether a feature is exposed.
Check the event, region, and device before choosing a service
To decide whether a service will work for your game, verify the specific event rather than relying on a general accessibility feature. Confirm that the game is carried in your country, that its live feed offers the caption or audio track you need, and that the language is the one you want. Also check that your app or device supports the control path. Apple notes that accessibility availability varies by region, while Peacock identifies device limitations for some audio-description features.
