Movies Anywhere then shares eligible movie entitlements with the connected libraries. It does not copy every purchase: each title must participate in Movies Anywhere, and your account, territory, retailer and license conditions still apply.
The service is free for eligible members. You still pay each retailer for movies you choose to buy, and access is a license to stream or download an eligible title rather than an unrestricted file with guaranteed permanent access.

Set up one shared movie library
Check that you can use Movies Anywhere
Movies Anywhere is available to legal residents of the United States, U.S. territories, and the associated states of the Federated States of Micronesia and Palau, subject to retailer and content availability. You must be at least 18. The service’s current Terms of Use, updated July 21, 2026, define this territory and eligibility requirement. If you live elsewhere, linking Apple and Amazon accounts through Movies Anywhere is not an available route.

Use the same retailer logins you normally use to view those purchases; linking a different Apple or Amazon account will not expose the titles in the account that actually bought them.

Connect Apple and Amazon
- Create or sign in to Movies Anywhere. Open the Movies Anywhere website or app and choose the sign-in or account-creation option. Complete eligibility and account details before attempting to connect a retailer.
- Open account linking. In account settings, choose the option to connect a digital retailer. Movies Anywhere’s Help Center labels this subject “How to connect or disconnect a Digital Retailer,” although the exact button wording can vary between the website and app.
- Connect Apple. Select Apple iTunes, then authenticate with the Apple account that holds your movie purchases. Approve the account connection and return to Movies Anywhere.
- Connect Amazon. Start the retailer-linking flow again, select Amazon Prime Video, and sign in with the Amazon account containing your purchases. Approve the connection.
- Review your collection. Open the Movies Anywhere collection and then check the movie libraries in the connected Apple and Amazon apps. Eligible titles should become available through the connected accounts; a title that does not appear is not automatically proof that linking failed.
- Test a specific title. Search for one known eligible movie in Movies Anywhere, Apple and Prime Video. Check the title, edition and resolution before downloading or starting playback.
Movies Anywhere’s welcome page describes the result this way: “We also make sure all of your eligible movies are available to watch on all of your connected accounts.” The word eligible is the important limitation.
Choose the accounts carefully
The July 21, 2026 Terms of Use allow one Movies Anywhere account to be connected to one account at each digital retailer at a time. A connected retailer account cannot be switched to a different account more than once in any 180-day period. Before confirming Apple or Amazon authorization, verify the email address or account identity shown by the retailer. An accidental connection to a family member’s or secondary account can prevent a quick correction.
What actually synchronizes
Eligible movie entitlements, not a complete export
Movies Anywhere creates a synchronized collection among participating retailers. When a title is eligible, its entitlement can appear in Movies Anywhere and in the connected Apple and Amazon libraries. The entitlement identifies a license to stream or download a particular eligible movie and resolution. It is not a DRM-free video file, a transfer of the retailer’s entire catalog, or a promise that access continues regardless of account status and service terms.

Retailer and studio participation determine whether a title can synchronize. Two purchases from the same store can behave differently: one may appear on all connected accounts while another remains only in the store where it was bought. Different editions, bonus packages, language versions or resolutions can also have separate availability. Check the individual movie rather than assuming that a studio’s entire catalog participates.
What does not happen
- Movies Anywhere does not merge unrelated Apple and Amazon accounts into one retailer login.
- It does not make every movie in either retailer library eligible.
- It does not turn a license into unrestricted ownership or guarantee lifetime access if the entitlement or service terms change.
- It does not guarantee identical menus, metadata, subtitles, bonus features, picture quality or download controls in all three apps.
Cost, territory and license conditions
Using the service
Movies Anywhere describes signup and use as free, with no subscription fee for eligible members. You pay when you buy a movie through Apple, Amazon or another connected retailer. Each purchase remains subject to that retailer’s transaction and license terms. A free Movies Anywhere account therefore does not make paid retailer movies free.
License-based access
The Terms of Use describe an entitlement as a license to stream or download a specific eligible title and resolution. Continued access depends on the entitlement remaining valid and on the Movies Anywhere and retailer terms. Keep this distinction in mind when deciding whether to rely on a cloud library for long-term access: synchronization is convenient, but it is not the same as possessing an unrestricted local master copy.
Geographic limits
The official terms state: “Only legal residents of the United States, all U.S. territories, and the U.S. associated states of the Federated States of Micronesia and Palau (collectively, the “Territory”) are eligible to register for a Movies Anywhere account, provided that the Movies Anywhere Service is subject to availability of Digital Retailers and Movies Anywhere Content in the Territory.” Retailer and movie availability can still vary inside that territory.

Where should you watch?
Once a title is synchronized, choose the app that best fits the device and features you need. Movies Anywhere, the Apple TV app/library and Amazon Prime Video can expose a connected entitlement, but their interfaces and title metadata are not necessarily identical.

Picture and sound quality
Movies Anywhere advertises support for 4K Ultra HD, HDR, Dolby Vision, 5.1 surround and Dolby Atmos. These are service capabilities, not a guarantee for every movie. The title’s available master, the entitlement resolution, your device, software, display, audio equipment and network connection all affect the result. If a title plays in HD rather than 4K, check the specific listing and device support instead of assuming that account linking caused a quality downgrade.
Streaming and offline limits
The Movies Anywhere Terms of Use updated July 21, 2026 set the following service limits:

- Shrink-wrapped
- Up to four concurrent streams on one Movies Anywhere account.
- Up to two concurrent streams of the same eligible movie.
- Downloads to a maximum of eight compatible devices at one time.
- A maximum of 16 different devices during a rolling 12-month period.
- Movies Anywhere downloads must reconnect to the internet and the account at least once every 90 days to remain available for playback.
These are Movies Anywhere limits. Apple and Amazon apps may impose their own offline rules, supported-device requirements or expiration behavior. If you download through a retailer app instead of Movies Anywhere, consult that app’s displayed terms and status messages.
Why an Apple or Amazon movie is missing
1. Confirm the account connection
Return to Movies Anywhere account settings and verify that the connected Apple account is the one that bought the title, and that the connected Amazon account is the one that bought the title. If the wrong account is linked, do not repeatedly disconnect and reconnect while guessing: the 180-day retailer-switch restriction can make an incorrect choice difficult to undo.
2. Check the movie’s eligibility
Search the specific movie in Movies Anywhere and review its title information. A missing title can simply be ineligible, even when other movies from the same retailer synchronize normally. Do not treat an absent movie as evidence that your entire library failed to link.
3. Check the edition and entitlement
Compare the exact movie, edition and resolution in the retailer receipt or library. A bonus bundle, alternate cut or different resolution may not map to the same Movies Anywhere entitlement. The service shares eligible entitlements, not every package description shown by a retailer.
4. Refresh each library
Sign out and back in only after confirming the account identities, then update the Movies Anywhere, Apple and Prime Video apps if an update is offered. Allow time for the collection to refresh and search by the movie’s standard title. App caches can display an old library view even after an entitlement is connected.

5. Use the official missing-movie help flow
Movies Anywhere’s Help Center includes a missing-movie topic. Use it when the title is eligible, the correct retailer account is connected and the movie still does not appear. Keep the retailer receipt, purchase date and exact title information available for support.
6. Consider catalog timing
Studio participation can change. A movie may become eligible later, while another may never qualify. Recheck the current Movies Anywhere title listing rather than relying on an old compatibility list.

Movies Anywhere announced that Lionsgate joined in phases. The announcement said 225 high-profile Lionsgate films were available at launch, with approximately 100 additional eligible films expected each month through 2026 and early 2027. Those figures describe a time-bound catalog rollout announced in 2026, not the number of movies every user can access today.
The announcement also said previously purchased or redeemed eligible titles would transfer when each title became available. Some titles may never qualify. Check the current title listing before buying a Lionsgate movie specifically to watch it through another connected retailer.
Add a movie with a Blu-ray or DVD code
A Blu-ray or DVD combo pack can provide another route into the shared library when the package explicitly includes a valid digital code and the movie is eligible. Movies Anywhere says a code can be redeemed on its website or in its app; after redemption, the movie appears in connected retailer accounts when those accounts are linked.

- Confirm that the physical package includes a digital code, that the code has not expired or been redeemed, and that the movie is eligible for Movies Anywhere.
- Sign in to the Movies Anywhere account you intend to keep using.
- Redeem the code through the Movies Anywhere website or app.
- Check Movies Anywhere, Apple and Prime Video after the connected libraries refresh.
This is optional collection-building; you do not need a disc drive, special streaming box or other hardware to link Apple and Amazon libraries.
Practical choices for a household
Use Movies Anywhere as the catalog view
If you buy from multiple retailers, Movies Anywhere is the clearest place to check whether an eligible title has synchronized. It can reduce the need to remember which store sold a movie, while playback can still happen in the Apple or Amazon app that is most convenient on a particular device.
Use the retailer app when its device support is better
A connected movie may be present in all three services but offer different playback controls or device integrations. Select the app that supports your television, phone, tablet or audio system and verify the title’s displayed quality. Do not infer identical feature sets from the fact that the entitlement is shared.

Plan downloads deliberately
For travel, track which app you used to download a movie and remember the eight-device, 16-device rolling-year and 90-day reconnection limits for Movies Anywhere downloads. Remove old devices before reaching a limit, and reconnect while online before a long period without internet access.
