To watch Apple TV+ shows on a smart TV, Roku, or other streaming device, open or install the Apple TV app, then sign in with the Apple Account that has your subscription. You do not need Apple TV 4K hardware if your TV or streaming player already supports the app. Apple now calls the subscription service Apple TV, though many viewers still search for Apple TV+.
Before you start
- Connect the TV or streaming device to the internet.
- Check that the Apple TV app is available for your specific device model and country or region. The app may already be installed; otherwise, look for it in the device’s app store.
- Have the Apple Account used for your subscription ready. Apple’s current support terminology is “Apple TV”; the subscription is required for subscription content. It does not include third-party branded services or titles separately offered for rental or purchase. Apple explains what an Apple TV subscription includes.
Install and sign in on a smart TV
Open the TV’s apps area or app store, search for Apple TV, install it if necessary, and launch it. Choose the sign-in option and use the Apple Account tied to your subscription. App names and menu locations differ by brand and model.

Apple’s setup guide covers Samsung, LG, Sony, Panasonic, VIZIO, and Hisense/VIDAA TVs. Sony models from 2018–2020 may need a software update; newer Sony TVs use the Android TV or Google TV instructions. Add Apple TV on Roku
- From the Roku home screen, choose Search Channels.
- Search for “Apple TV.” Apple’s instruction is to “Search for ‘Apple TV.’”
- Choose the Apple TV channel and follow the prompts to add it.
- Open the Apple TV app and sign in with your Apple Account if prompted. You can also add the channel through the Roku Channel Store.
Install it on Fire TV, Android TV, or Google TV
Open the device’s search or app store, find Apple TV, install it, and launch it. Follow the sign-in prompts. Some platforms limit purchases made inside the app. In the United States, Apple says Fire TV users can subscribe through Fire TV and Prime Video, while other purchases may not be available there. These options depend on device and region; if a subscription or purchase cannot be completed on the TV, make it on another supported device using the same Apple Account, then watch on the TV. Finish setup when the TV displays a code
Some devices offer a QR code or a code-entry sign-in instead of requiring you to type your account details with the remote. Scan the QR code with your phone or visit link.apple.com and enter the code shown on the TV. If neither option appears, sign in with the TV remote. If the Apple TV app is unavailable
First check compatibility for the exact model and region, then check for device software updates. If the app still is not available, these alternatives may work:

What to do if it still will not play
- The app is missing: Confirm the exact TV or player model and your region’s app availability, then install any available system updates.
- You cannot sign in: Make sure you are using the Apple Account associated with the subscription. Try code-based sign-in if offered, or enter the account details with the remote.
- You can open the app but cannot buy or subscribe: The platform may not support in-app purchases. Complete the transaction on another supported device with the same Apple Account.
- The connection or setup fails: Check the device’s internet connection. For device-specific setup issues, contact its manufacturer.
Does every title in the app come with the subscription?
No. The Apple TV subscription covers its subscription content, but not third-party branded subscription services or titles separately available to rent or buy. Availability of sports and other content can also vary by country or region. Check Apple’s explanation of subscription content.
