You do not need an entrance reservation or timed-entry slot to visit Grand Teton National Park. You do need to plan around reservable lodging and campsites, seasonal road closures, and changing construction or weather conditions. Grand Teton is open year-round, but access to particular roads and facilities varies by season; check current National Park Service alerts and Wyoming road information before setting out.
Do I need a reservation to enter Grand Teton National Park?
No. The National Park Service says, “Grand Teton does not offer entrance reservations or timed entry, so you are welcome to enter the park at anytime.” That policy is about entering the park; it does not guarantee availability at accommodations or other services. NPS permits and reservations

Lodging, campgrounds, and activity permits
Park lodging and campgrounds are reservable, and rooms and sites may fill months ahead. Book through the park’s official reservation information rather than assuming you can find a walk-up space. Some activities also have separate permit rules: NPS lists overnight backpacking, boats and watercraft, weddings, and certain special uses among activities that require permits. Boaters must also account for a park boat permit and Wyoming aquatic invasive species requirements. NPS permits and reservations
Is Grand Teton open in winter?
Yes. The park is open 24 hours year-round, but that does not mean every road, campground, or visitor facility operates in every season. May through September is the busiest period, when most roads and facilities are open. From November through April, some roads, all campgrounds, and most visitor facilities close or operate on reduced schedules. Individual facilities have their own dates, which can change. Check the NPS operating hours and dates for the places you plan to use.

When do roads close in Grand Teton?
Seasonal closures
The Teton Park Road closes to vehicles from November 1 through April 30 between Taggart Lake Trailhead and Signal Mountain Lodge. NPS says this section is generally groomed for skiing, snowshoeing, and hiking from about mid-December to mid-March. Moose-Wilson Road closes to vehicles on November 1 and typically remains closed until mid-May, depending on conditions. Other roads may close when conditions require it. Confirm the current status on the NPS park conditions page before choosing a route.
Construction and temporary disruptions
Construction schedules and impacts change, and the road-status map may lag behind conditions or omit short-term delays and closures. Check NPS alerts and construction updates, as well as Wyoming traveler information, close to departure. For example, the NPS conditions page dated September 30, 2026, listed anticipated October impacts including a 20-minute delay on US Highway 26/89/191 near Moran Junction, closure of Death Canyon Road and Trailhead, closure of Moose-Wilson Road between Laurance S. Rockefeller Preserve and Moose, and a 20-minute delay at the Teton Park Road roundabout near Moose. Those were dated notices, not standing conditions. How should I plan driving routes and winter travel?
Grand Teton covers nearly 310,000 acres and has four road entrances. Driving between entrances or distant destinations can take hours, so check the conditions for the specific entrance and route you intend to use, not just a general park overview. NPS provides directions and transportation information and park maps; use those alongside live road updates.

For winter driving, NPS says the outer highways are plowed and open for winter travel, while park roads may be snow-covered or icy. Prepare for conditions rather than assuming a road is clear because it is open:

The NPS FAQ estimates that driving from the southern boundary toward Yellowstone on the outer Highway 26/89/191 route takes a little more than an hour without stops; the Teton Park Road route takes slightly longer. Treat those as rough route estimates, not arrival-time guarantees: construction, weather, wildlife, and stops all affect the trip. NPS frequently asked questions

- Confirm entry and bookings. No timed-entry reservation is needed, but reserve lodging or a campsite if you plan to stay in the park.
- Check seasonal access. Review operating dates for facilities and the status of the roads you expect to use.
- Look for fresh alerts. Check NPS conditions and construction notices near your travel date; maps may not show every short-term change.
- Check Wyoming roads and weather. Conditions outside the park can affect the route to your entrance as much as conditions inside it.
- Prepare for winter if applicable. Equip the vehicle for snow and ice, carry the recommended supplies, and allow flexibility for delays.
For entrance fees, verify the current amount on the NPS fees and passes page before travel; fees can change.
