Start by searching the claim in the Brazilian Electoral Justice’s Fato ou Boato archive. Then check the original source, author, publication date and web address; read the full story; and compare it with independent reliable reporting and relevant official TSE information. Use official voter-service tools for electoral procedures, not forwarded links or fact-checking apps.
Follow this sequence to check a political claim
- Search Fato ou Boato. Enter distinctive wording from the claim or search its subject in the TSE’s Fato ou Boato archive. Check that a result addresses the same claim, context and election; a similar headline may concern a different event. The TSE says the page, created in 2020, was updated for the 2026 elections on 21 August 2026. It is a live archive, so it can receive new checks.
- Open the original source. Look at the website address, publisher, author and publication date. A screenshot or forwarded excerpt can omit context or conceal where a claim began. If the source is not identifiable, treat that as a reason to investigate further, not as proof that the claim is false.
- Read beyond the headline. Check what the article actually says, what evidence it provides and whether its details support the headline. Note whether it distinguishes confirmed facts from allegations or interpretation.
- Corroborate the claim. Compare it with independent reliable reporting and, when the claim concerns an electoral rule, procedure or service, the relevant official TSE information. The TSE’s guidance recommends checking the source, full story, address, publisher, date and author, and comparing claims with other reporting.
- Check the fact-check’s evidence. If Fato ou Boato points to a check by a partner outlet, read that outlet’s explanation and evidence. Attribute the check to the organization that produced it; attribute electoral procedure information to the Electoral Justice. A fact-check label alone does not explain why a claim is true, false or misleading.
What Fato ou Boato can—and cannot—tell you
Fato ou Boato is the Electoral Justice’s public page for checked election-related claims and educational guidance. The TSE’s 21 August 2026 announcement lists ten partner fact-checking organizations:

- AFP
- Agência Lupa
- Aos Fatos
- Boatos.org
- Comprova
- E-farsas
- Estadão Verifica
- Fato ou Fake
- Justiça Eleitoral
- UOL Confere
Use the archive to find checks, not as a substitute for matching the check to the exact claim and context. A result about an older election or a differently worded allegation may not settle a new version. If there is no matching entry, that does not establish that the claim is true or false; continue checking its source and evidence.
Choose the official tool that matches your need
The TSE’s services have different purposes. Use the tool designed for the question at hand rather than treating every official app or reporting channel as a fact-checker.

| Need | Tool or source | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Check a circulated election-related claim | Fato ou Boato | Provides checked claims and educational guidance; search for the same wording and context. |
| Access voter services or check a polling place | e-Título and official TSE information | e-Título is the official voter app, free for Android and iOS. Consult the TSE’s official service information for current instructions. |
| See the result recorded at a polling place | Boletim na Mão | Reads the QR code on the printed boletim de urna and provides a digital copy of that polling-place result. It is not a claim-checking app. |
| Report suspected irregular campaign advertising | Pardal | Accepts reports about suspected irregular campaign advertising. Follow the election-specific instructions; the TSE says 2026 availability began on 16 August 2026. |
| Report notably false or decontextualized information with potential electoral harm | Siade | The TSE describes it as a public reporting route. Submitting a report is not the same as independently establishing that the claim is false. |
The TSE describes its broader 2026 disinformation program as mobilizing more than 70 institutions. That program-wide figure is distinct from the ten partner fact-checkers listed for the updated Fato ou Boato page.

Polling places and voter services
For a polling-place location, certificate or other electoral service, use the TSE’s official information or e-Título rather than a link forwarded in a message. Start from the TSE’s 2026 election information and follow its current service instructions. A service page answers procedural questions; it does not automatically verify every political claim that mentions voting.

Claims about electronic voting machines
In its cited claim check, the TSE says the electronic voting machine does not have internet, Wi-Fi, a mobile-phone chip or antenna, and describes inspection and audit procedures. Keep that statement tied to the TSE’s explanation of the machine and its safeguards; do not generalize it into a claim about every possible risk or every election system.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteThe same TSE page separately warns about online fraud involving fake links, stolen passwords, cloned apps or unauthorized device access. Treat a message that asks for credentials or directs you to an unfamiliar link as a separate security issue: go to the official TSE site or app directly instead of using the message’s link.

How to judge a result or reporting channel
Before relying on a source or submitting a report, check four things:
- Purpose: Is it a fact-check, voter service, polling-place result or complaint channel?
- Authority and evidence: Is it explaining an official procedure, or analyzing a claim with evidence? Those roles are different.
- Date and election context: Does the information refer to the current election and the same claim or procedure?
- Scope: Does the reporting tool accept this kind of issue? A complaint route is not a general-purpose claim verifier.
For live pages and election-specific instructions, confirm the current entry before acting: the archive and service details can change as an election approaches.
