If YouTube says your phone number has already verified the maximum number of channels, use a different eligible phone number. YouTube’s stated limit is no more than two channels per phone number per year, and it does not document an immediate reset or an exception for using that same number again.
What the phone-number limit means
YouTube limits how many channels can be associated with one phone number to help prevent abuse. Its verification guidance says a number can be used for no more than two channels per year. If you have reached that limit, repeatedly requesting a code will not resolve the limit error; the supported next step is to verify with a different eligible number.

YouTube does not state a universal date when the limit resets or promise that the same number will become available again after a particular wait. Do not rely on an assumed reset date.
First, identify which problem you have
A reached-limit message and a missing verification code are different problems. Use the message YouTube shows to choose the relevant next step.

| What you see | What it usually indicates | Next step |
|---|---|---|
| YouTube says the maximum number of accounts or channels has been reached | The phone number has hit YouTube’s stated association limit. | Use a different eligible phone number. |
| No limit error, but the SMS has not arrived | The code may be delayed, or the carrier may not support Google messages. | Wait a few minutes, then try the voice-call option if available. |
| Neither text nor call arrives | The number may be incorrect or its carrier may not support Google’s delivery method. | Check the number and carrier support; try a different supported number or carrier. |
| Phone verification is complete, but an advanced feature remains unavailable | Advanced features have additional eligibility steps. | Check Feature eligibility for the channel-specific path and status. |
Verify with a different phone number
On a computer, open YouTube Studio and go to Settings → Channel → Feature eligibility → Intermediate features → Verify phone number. On a mobile device, YouTube directs creators to m.youtube.com/verify.
- Sign in to the Google account that manages the channel you want to verify.
- Open the verification flow using the Studio path above or the mobile verification page.
- Enter a different eligible phone number and choose text message or voice call, depending on the options shown.
- Enter the six-digit code YouTube sends or reads to you.
Only a channel owner can verify a non-Brand Account channel. For a Brand Account, its owner or a manager can verify. A newly acquired number is not guaranteed to work: YouTube does not endorse a particular SIM product, and a number or carrier may still be ineligible or unable to receive Google’s messages or calls.

If the code does not arrive
- Wait a few minutes. If the text is delayed, request another code if needed or choose the voice-call option when YouTube offers it.
- Check the number. Confirm that you entered it correctly, including the country code where requested.
- Check carrier delivery. Some carriers or regions do not support Google’s verification texts or calls. If neither method works, YouTube recommends trying a different number or carrier that supports delivery.
- Do not mistake a delivery issue for a limit. If the page explicitly says the maximum number of channels has been reached, follow the different-number route rather than retrying SMS.
What phone verification unlocks—and what it does not
Phone verification unlocks YouTube’s intermediate features, including custom thumbnails, live streaming, uploads longer than 15 minutes, and copyright-claim appeals. Completing it does not guarantee access to every YouTube feature, because some features have separate requirements.

After that, eligible creators can build sufficient channel history or use ID or video verification if YouTube offers those options for the account. ID and video verification are not available to all creators. YouTube says many active channels may already have enough history; eligibility depends on channel activity and Google Account history, and policy violations can delay or remove access.

Check your channel’s eligibility status
In YouTube Studio, open Settings → Channel → Feature eligibility. Review the status shown for each feature level and any notices or restrictions on the channel. The options shown there are the relevant guide to what that specific channel can do next.
Workarounds to avoid
YouTube’s official guidance does not recommend virtual or rented SMS numbers, public SMS inboxes, changing devices, clearing cookies, or repeatedly retrying as ways around a reached-number limit. These are not documented remedies. Use a different eligible number rather than trying to evade YouTube’s abuse-prevention limit.
