Can you play Xbox Cloud Gaming on PS5?
Not through an officially supported PS5 browser workflow. Xbox requires a cloud-gaming subscription and a supported device, and its current setup documentation does not identify PS5 as one of those devices. Sony’s PlayStation FAQ states: “No, the PS5 system doesn’t include a dedicated web browser app.” The statement was published on November 9, 2020.

A page loading once is not the same as Microsoft or Sony supporting the configuration.

Why the usual “open a browser on PS5” instructions break down
Many guides begin by telling you to launch a browser, enter the Xbox cloud-play address and sign in. That sequence is valid only when the device has a supported browser and is included in Xbox’s compatibility guidance. It does not translate directly to PS5 because the console has no dedicated browser application.
Xbox’s getting-started guide describes browser play for these categories:
- Mac computers using a supported browser.
- iPhone and iPad devices using a supported browser.
- Android phones and tablets using a supported browser.
- Chromebooks and other ChromeOS devices.
- Steam Deck, which requires a more involved setup from desktop mode using Microsoft Edge.
PS5 is not listed alongside them. The omission matters because Xbox’s support statement is device-specific: browser support, controller handling, sign-in behavior and video delivery all depend on the platform, not simply on whether a page can be rendered.
What “supported browser” means here
A supported browser is only one part of the chain. Xbox’s documentation pairs particular browser families with particular device categories, then delivers authentication, the game catalog, the streaming player and input handling through that combination. A web view that displays ordinary text or images may still lack the features needed to complete sign-in, launch a stream or accept game input.
That is why a search result or a link-opening trick is not proof of compatibility. The meaningful test is whether an officially listed device and browser can sign in, show games available to the account, start a title and accept a compatible controller for a sustained session. Xbox does not describe PS5 as meeting that test.
How to start Xbox Cloud Gaming on an officially supported device
If your goal is to play Xbox games from a browser, use a device in Xbox’s documented list. The following procedure reflects the browser flow in the getting-started guide; it is not a PS5 procedure.
Check the prerequisites
- An Xbox subscription that includes cloud gaming. The setup material reviewed here requires a subscription but does not fix a particular plan tier. Check the current plan description for your account and region before subscribing.
- A supported device and a current version of a supported browser. Xbox identifies Edge, Chrome and Safari among the browsers it supports.
- A Microsoft account that owns or has access to the subscription and the games you intend to launch.
- A stable connection. Xbox recommends Ethernet where possible; capable devices can also use 5 GHz Wi-Fi or 5G mobile data.
- A compatible controller or supported touch controls for games that offer them.
Open the cloud-play site
- Update the operating system and browser on the supported device. An outdated browser can fail before a game starts, so remove that variable first.
- Open the browser and go to
xbox.com/play. - Sign in with the Microsoft account tied to the cloud-gaming subscription.
- Choose a game marked as available for cloud play. A title in the broader Xbox catalog is not automatically streamable; availability depends on the service catalog, ownership and region.
- Start the game and pair a controller if the browser prompts you. Keep the device connected to power for a long session on a phone or tablet.
Steam Deck is different: Xbox’s guide calls for switching to desktop mode and completing an Edge-based setup. Those extra steps are specific to Steam Deck and should not be treated as instructions for PS5.

If a supported-device session reaches the catalog but a particular game is unavailable, first check entitlement rather than replacing a controller or changing the router. Cloud access can depend on the subscription, whether you own an eligible digital title, the current service catalog and your region. A game appearing in a general Xbox search does not guarantee that it can be streamed by your account.
Use the same Microsoft account throughout the process. Signing into the browser with one account while the subscription belongs to another can make the service appear unavailable even though the device and browser are supported. If the plan or catalog has changed, verify the current Xbox plan and game listing rather than relying on an older screenshot or a forum post.
What an indirect PS5 browser attempt would mean
Because PS5 has no dedicated browser app, an alleged PS5 method generally depends on an indirect web view, a link opened from another feature or a system behavior that is not documented as a browser. The official sources reviewed do not say which entry points work, which PS5 system versions support them, or whether Xbox’s sign-in and game controls function after the page opens.
For that reason, there is no responsible, reproducible step-by-step PS5 recipe to publish as fact. Results could differ by console software version, account state, geographic region, network configuration and changes on either company’s service. A workaround claim should be considered unverified unless it includes a repeatable test on the same conditions and a clear warning that it is outside official support.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
If you experiment anyway, use the following as observations rather than promised fixes:
- Page never appears: that is consistent with the absence of a supported PS5 browser and is not something bandwidth can correct.
- The sign-in page appears but cannot complete: authentication may depend on browser features unavailable in the web view.
- A game tile appears but launch fails: rendering a catalog page does not demonstrate that the streaming player, account checks or input APIs work.
- Video starts but controls do not respond: controller compatibility on another device does not establish support inside a PS5 web view.
- The method works once and later stops: an undocumented entry point can change with a console update or a service-side change.
Do not purchase a new controller or upgrade your internet plan solely to make this route work. Neither action turns PS5 into an officially supported Xbox Cloud Gaming browser device.
How to judge a workaround claim
A credible compatibility report should identify the PS5 system software, the account and region, the exact entry point, the browser-like environment that opened, and what happened after sign-in. It should also distinguish between seeing the Xbox home page and actually launching a cloud game. Without those details, a short video showing a page on screen cannot establish a repeatable method.
Even a successful demonstration has a limited meaning. It may show that a particular web view rendered a particular page on one date. It does not establish that Microsoft supports that device, that the method will survive a console update, or that every account can use it. Do not enter credentials into unofficial pages or downloads presented as a required “browser unlock.” The documented route is to use xbox.com/play on a supported device and browser.

Connection requirements and performance guidance
Xbox’s current cloud-gaming service page, retrieved October 13, 2026, gives these best-performance connection figures:
| Device category | Xbox-stated connection guidance | Qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Mobile devices | 10 Mbps | A service-page recommendation for best performance, not a PS5 compatibility guarantee. |
| Consoles, PCs and tablets | 20 Mbps | Also a service-page recommendation; it does not add PS5 browser support. |
| Any capable supported device | 5 GHz Wi-Fi or mobile data can be used; Ethernet is recommended where possible. | These are connection options for supported setups. |
Bandwidth is only one part of a streaming session. Wireless interference, router placement, congestion, distance to the service and the device’s browser implementation can affect responsiveness. Improving those conditions is sensible on a supported device, but it cannot resolve the separate compatibility problem on PS5.
A sensible network checklist on supported hardware
- Check that the connection meets Xbox’s stated rate for the device category: 10 Mbps for mobile devices or 20 Mbps for consoles, PCs and tablets.
- Prefer Ethernet when the supported device and router allow it.
- If using Wi-Fi, try the 5 GHz band and keep the device within reliable range of the router.
- On a phone or tablet, capable 5G mobile data is another option identified by Xbox.
- Retest after updating the browser and signing in to the correct Microsoft account. A network upgrade cannot repair an account, catalog or browser-support failure.
Can you use a DualSense controller for Xbox Cloud Gaming?
Generally, yes on supported devices. Microsoft’s GDC 2025 developer material says Xbox Cloud Gaming works with a wide range of Bluetooth controllers, including PlayStation DualSense and DualShock controllers, Xbox controllers and Nintendo Switch Pro controllers.
That statement concerns Xbox Cloud Gaming in general. It does not test or certify a DualSense or DualShock connected to an unofficial PS5 browser route. Controller pairing and button mapping are separate from whether the console can provide a supported browser and video-streaming environment.
Recommended Free Tools
| Component | What is documented | What is not documented for PS5 |
|---|---|---|
| DualSense or DualShock | Listed as compatible Bluetooth controllers for Xbox Cloud Gaming generally. | Operation through an indirect PS5 web view. |
| Ethernet cable | Recommended where possible for a supported cloud-gaming device. | A way to create a PS5 browser or add Xbox support. |
| Another Bluetooth controller | May work on a supported device if the browser and operating system accept it. | A solution to the missing PS5 browser application. |
In practical terms, try the DualSense first on a supported phone, tablet, computer or other listed device before buying another pad. If it is not recognized there, check the supported device’s Bluetooth and browser behavior. Do not infer from that result that a PS5 web view is supported or unsupported; those are separate questions.
Do you need Game Pass Ultimate?
Xbox states that cloud play requires a subscription, but the setup information used here does not specify a single tier by name. The practical requirement is an account and plan with cloud-gaming entitlement in your region. Check the current Xbox plan page before paying because plan names, catalogs and regional availability can change.
Subscription eligibility answers only whether your account may use the service. It does not make an unsupported device supported. A qualifying account can still fail to provide a playable session on PS5 because the console lacks the documented browser route.
Do not buy a plan solely because a third-party guide promises that it unlocks PS5 browser play. Confirm that the subscription works on one of Xbox’s listed device categories first. Keep the service entitlement, game availability and hardware compatibility as three separate checks.
Xbox Cloud Gaming on a supported device versus PlayStation’s own cloud option
Sony offers a separate cloud-streaming path for PlayStation users. PlayStation Plus Premium members can stream selected PS5 games on PlayStation Portal, including games in the service catalog and eligible digital games in the subscriber’s library. This is an official PlayStation ecosystem feature, not Xbox Cloud Gaming running on a PS5 console.
| Option | Where it runs | Subscription and catalog | What it is not |
|---|---|---|---|
| Xbox Cloud Gaming | Xbox-listed browsers and devices such as macOS, iOS/iPadOS, Android, ChromeOS and Steam Deck. | Requires a cloud-enabled Xbox subscription; game access varies by catalog, ownership and region. | Not officially documented for PS5. |
| PlayStation cloud streaming | PlayStation Portal under Sony’s supported service path. | Requires PlayStation Plus Premium; eligible PS5 games depend on the catalog, digital-library rules and region. | Not Xbox Cloud Gaming on PS5. |
These services are not interchangeable. An Xbox subscription does not grant PlayStation Plus benefits, and PlayStation Plus Premium does not provide access to the Xbox catalog. The supported device, account entitlement and game library all belong to the service you choose.
Availability and the list of eligible games can change, so verify the current regional catalog before choosing a subscription or device.
Do you need to buy anything?
No specific physical purchase is required to understand or attempt the supported setup. A compatible controller may already be available, and Microsoft lists DualSense and DualShock among generally supported Bluetooth controllers. An Ethernet cable or a router that provides 5 GHz Wi-Fi can improve a supported streaming setup, but neither creates a browser on PS5.
Buying a different controller, a capture device or a faster network plan is therefore not a solution to the central limitation. First establish that the device and browser are officially listed, then address network or input issues within that supported environment.

- Want Xbox games in a browser? Use a Mac, iPhone or iPad, Android device, Chromebook or another device explicitly listed by Xbox.
- Only have a PS5? There is no official browser procedure to follow. Avoid treating an internet forum’s indirect-link method as guaranteed.
- Already own a DualSense? Try it on a supported device; Microsoft lists it as a generally compatible Bluetooth controller.
- Seeing poor streaming quality elsewhere? Check the Xbox connection guidance, prefer Ethernet or 5 GHz Wi-Fi where practical, and confirm that your browser is current.
- Seeing a catalog but not a game? Check the subscription, ownership, regional eligibility and current cloud catalog before changing hardware.
- Can’t sign in? Confirm that the browser is supported and that you are using the Microsoft account with the cloud entitlement.
- Want cloud streaming in the PlayStation ecosystem? Review PlayStation Plus Premium and PlayStation Portal eligibility instead; it is a different service with a different game catalog.
Frequently asked questions
Does PS5 have a web browser?
Sony’s official PS5 FAQ says the system does not include a dedicated web browser app. That is why there is no normal browser icon or documented way to navigate to Xbox Cloud Gaming from the console.
How do I use Xbox Cloud Gaming on PS5 through the browser?
There is no officially documented PS5 procedure. Xbox’s browser instructions apply to listed devices such as macOS, iOS/iPadOS, Android, ChromeOS and Steam Deck, not PS5. Any indirect web-view method should be treated as unverified.

Can I open xbox.com/play from a PS5 message or link?
The official sources do not identify a particular message, link or hidden entry point that provides Xbox Cloud Gaming on PS5. A link displaying a page would not prove that sign-in, streaming and controller input are supported.
Will faster internet make Xbox Cloud Gaming work on PS5?
No. Xbox’s 10 Mbps and 20 Mbps figures are connection guidance for service-supported device categories. Better bandwidth can help a supported setup, but it cannot add a dedicated browser or official PS5 compatibility.
Can I use my PS5 DualSense?
Microsoft lists DualSense and DualShock controllers as compatible with Xbox Cloud Gaming generally over Bluetooth. That does not certify their use through an unofficial PS5 web view. Pair the controller with a supported device instead.
Is Game Pass Ultimate definitely required?
The Xbox setup information says a subscription with cloud-gaming access is required but does not establish one universal tier in the material used here. Check the current plan page for your region. Regardless of tier, a subscription does not make PS5 a supported device.
Can PlayStation Portal run Xbox Cloud Gaming?
Sony’s documented Portal cloud feature is its own PlayStation cloud-streaming service for PlayStation Plus Premium members and eligible games. It should not be described as Xbox Cloud Gaming, and the catalogs and account entitlements are different.

An undocumented web view can change after a PS5 software update, an Xbox service change, an account change or a regional adjustment. Because no official procedure or test matrix is provided, a one-time result is not a dependable installation method.
The bottom line for PS5 owners
The accurate answer to “How do I use Xbox Cloud Gaming on PS5 through the browser?” is that Xbox and Sony do not currently document an official PS5 method. Xbox’s supported browser list excludes PS5, while Sony says the console has no dedicated web browser app. Use an officially listed device for Xbox Cloud Gaming, or use Sony’s separate Portal-based cloud streaming if your priority is supported PlayStation access. Any PS5 web-view workaround remains unverified and should not be presented as a dependable installation guide.
