The simplest option is a USB-C-to-3.5 mm adapter. Choose one that matches your phone’s audio implementation; some phones require a built-in digital-to-analog converter (DAC). If you want no adapter attached to the phone, a Bluetooth receiver can connect to your headphones instead, but it adds another device to charge.
What “getting the headphone jack back” actually means
For a USB-C phone, restoring wired headphone use generally means routing audio through an adapter from USB-C to the headphones’ 3.5 mm plug. Android Open Source Project documents a USB-C-to-analog adapter specification for connecting 3.5 mm headsets to devices that have only USB-C (Android Open Source Project’s USB-C-to-analog audio adapter documentation).

That is not the same as installing a headphone socket inside the phone. The available support and product material describes external adapters and receivers, not a broadly compatible internal retrofit. If your goal is simply to keep using your existing headphones, an adapter is usually the most direct route.

Check whether the adapter needs a DAC
A USB-C connector alone does not guarantee that every audio adapter will work with every phone. Some phones need the adapter to convert digital audio into an analog signal, which requires a DAC inside the adapter. Samsung says some Galaxy devices need a USB-C-to-3.5 mm adapter with a built-in DAC (Samsung’s connection guidance). Fairphone likewise says the Fairphone 3 and Fairphone 4 need an adapter with a DAC chip for USB-C audio playback (Fairphone’s 3.5 mm audio guidance).

Before buying, check the phone maker’s support information and the adapter’s compatibility list. If your phone requires an active DAC, a passive adapter may not work. A product page’s compatibility statement is a manufacturer claim, not a guarantee for every phone or software configuration.
Check microphone, controls, and physical fit
- If you use the headphones for calls, confirm that the adapter supports a headset microphone—not just headphone audio. Also check whether inline controls are supported if you rely on them.
- Make sure the phone case does not prevent the adapter’s USB-C plug from seating fully. UGREEN specifically notes that a protective case can obstruct the connector on its SKU 80154 adapter (UGREEN India’s product page).
- Verify the exact adapter model and your exact phone model. Compatibility should not be inferred from the phrase “USB-C” alone.

- The USB-C to 3.5mm Headphone Jack Adapter lets you connect devices that use a standard 3.5mm audio plug - like headphones or speakers - to your USB-C devices
- Works with all devices that have a USB-C connector and support iOS 10 or later.
| Option | What the cited source establishes | What to verify |
|---|---|---|
| Apple USB-C to 3.5 mm adapter | Apple lists it for standard 3.5 mm headphones and speakers. | Confirm compatibility with your phone; its availability does not establish universal Android support. Apple product page |
| Rapoo UCA-1002 | Rapoo lists a built-in DAC and 16-bit/48 kHz audio specification. | Those are manufacturer specifications, not an independent sound-quality assessment; check phone and headset support. Rapoo product page |
| UGREEN SKU 80154 | UGREEN India identifies it as a USB-C-to-3.5 mm adapter with a built-in DAC and warns that a case can block full connector seating. | Confirm the exact SKU, local availability, and compatibility with your phone. UGREEN India product details |
Set it up and troubleshoot connection problems
- Confirm your phone’s port and requirements. Check the phone maker’s support page for USB-C audio and whether a DAC-equipped adapter is required.
- Choose the adapter for your use. Check 3.5 mm headphone support, headset-microphone support if needed, and any charging passthrough requirement.
- Connect the adapter directly to USB-C. Remove or adjust a case if it prevents the plug from seating fully, then connect the headphone plug to the adapter.
- Play audio and test the features you need. Check playback, calls, microphone pickup, and inline controls rather than assuming all functions work because audio plays.
- If there is no sound, reseat both plugs and verify compatibility. A loose connection, case interference, or an adapter without the DAC your phone requires can prevent audio from working. Moshi’s support page discusses Android USB-C audio adapters that do not work with certain phones (Moshi’s compatibility troubleshooting).
What if you need to charge while listening?
A basic USB-C-to-3.5 mm adapter uses the phone’s USB-C port, so do not assume it also leaves a charging connection available. If simultaneous charging matters, look for an adapter that explicitly documents charging passthrough and lists your phone model. Scosche describes charging and audio support for selected Google Pixel generations; its page does not establish the feature as universal (Scosche StrikeLine product page). Check the supported models and current availability before choosing it.

Portable USB DAC/headphone amplifier
A portable DAC/amp is a separate audio device between the phone and wired headphones. It can suit listeners who specifically want a dedicated audio component, but it is larger than a small adapter and adds another item to carry. Pentaconn describes an active USB-C adapter with a DAC and headphone amplifier (Pentaconn specifications). Audioengine describes its DAC3 as a mobile DAC/headphone amplifier with a 3.5 mm mini-jack output for a phone or other digital source (Audioengine DAC3 details).

Bluetooth receiver with a 3.5 mm output
A Bluetooth receiver pairs wirelessly with the phone and connects to wired headphones through a 3.5 mm output. This avoids a cable running from the phone’s USB-C port, but the receiver is another accessory to carry and charge. TechRadar’s 2026 review describes the iFi GO Blu Air as having 3.5 mm and 4.4 mm outputs; it reports that the receiver’s USB-C port is for charging and does not also function as a wired DAC (TechRadar’s review, published February 22, 2026). Bluetooth receiver mode and USB DAC mode are different functions.

| Approach | Connection | Best fit | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|---|
| USB-C-to-3.5 mm adapter | Wired from the phone’s USB-C port to 3.5 mm headphones; some phones require a DAC-equipped adapter. | Keeping existing wired headphones with the fewest extra parts. | Uses the phone port, and charging passthrough must be explicitly supported. |
| Portable USB DAC/amp | Wired USB audio through a separate DAC/headphone amplifier, then to 3.5 mm headphones. | Someone who wants a separate audio device and accepts carrying it. | More hardware and potential cable bulk than a compact adapter. |
| Bluetooth receiver | Wireless Bluetooth connection from the phone to a receiver, then 3.5 mm headphones. | Reducing the cable connection at the phone while retaining wired headphones. | Adds a receiver that needs charging; receiver USB-C may be charging-only, depending on the model. |
For most people seeking the simplest fix, start with a USB-C-to-3.5 mm adapter that is confirmed for the phone and supports the headphone functions they use. Choose a receiver only if removing the phone-side cable matters more than carrying and charging another device.
