Press Windows key + V to open Clipboard history. If it is your first time using the feature, select Turn on when prompted; then select an item to paste it or pin it to keep it available.
Turn on Clipboard history and open it
Clipboard history is off by default. You can enable it from the prompt shown the first time you use the shortcut, or switch it on in Settings:

- Open Start > Settings > System > Clipboard.
- Turn on Clipboard history.
- Copy text or other content as usual, then press Windows key + V to open the history panel.
Microsoft documents this shortcut for Windows 11 and Windows 10. Microsoft’s Windows keyboard shortcuts reference also notes that Clipboard history must be turned on before you can use it.

Paste an item or pin it for later
In the Clipboard history panel, select an entry to paste it into the currently active app. To keep an entry available, use its pin control. Pinned items remain after a PC restart and are not removed when you clear the rest of the history.

Know what Clipboard history keeps
Microsoft Support says Clipboard history can hold up to 25 copied entries, with a maximum size of 4 MB per item. Supported formats are text, HTML, and bitmap. When the list fills, older unpinned entries are removed as new ones are added; unpinned history is also cleared when you restart the PC.
To remove a single entry, open history with Windows key + V, open that item’s more-options menu, and choose delete. To remove the unpinned history, choose Clear all in the panel or clear clipboard data in Settings. Pinned items are retained. Sync clipboard items across devices
Clipboard syncing is optional. On each device, open Start > Settings > System > Clipboard and enable the cross-device clipboard history setting. Devices must use the same Microsoft account or work account.
You can choose automatic syncing for copied text, or keep syncing manual and select the sync control on an individual text item in Clipboard history. The manual option lets you decide which text entries to send rather than syncing every copied text item.

Windows 10 support status
The clipboard instructions remain documented for Windows 10, but Microsoft states that Windows 10 support ended on October 14, 2025. That date marks the end of support; it does not change the shortcut steps described above.
