To monitor visual changes with URLbox, capture the same page on a schedule using consistent render settings, then compare each new screenshot with the previous one. URLbox renders the screenshots; a November 26, 2025 Urlbox article describes scheduling and comparing captures in CaptureDeck, including slider and diff views. That article does not establish that the comparison interface is part of the Urlbox API.
Set up repeatable website captures
A useful comparison depends on capturing the same thing the same way each time. First decide whether to watch an entire page or a specific region, then keep the URL and render configuration consistent across runs.

Choose full-page or element capture
- Full page: Use this when changes anywhere on a long page matter. Urlbox documents full-page screenshots and a default stitch flow that scrolls the page to trigger lazy-loaded content and estimate page height.
- Specific element: Use a CSS selector to focus on a known region, such as a pricing panel or status module. Urlbox documents element-specific capture.
Full-page captures can be affected by sticky elements, page-height changes, animations, banners, and popups. Urlbox documents controls to skip scrolling, freeze fixed elements, attempt to hide cookie banners, or click controls. These controls are not guaranteed to work on every site.

Keep render settings stable
Use the same page URL, viewport width and height, output format, and capture scope for each run. These are configurable render options in Urlbox; holding them constant is a practical way to make before-and-after images easier to interpret. If the monitored page is responsive, choose a viewport that represents the experience you actually care about.
Choose stitch or native full-page mode
Urlbox describes stitch mode as optimized for accuracy and native mode as optimized for speed. Native mode may not work well on every site, so validate the output on the page you plan to monitor before relying on it. If accurate full-page coverage matters more than speed, start with stitch mode.

Schedule captures and compare them
Urlbox lists scheduled screenshot archiving and comparison over time as a no-code use case. In Urlbox’s article “Automatically Detect Website Changes (and How It Works),” published November 26, 2025, Arnold Cubici-Jones describes scheduled captures and a comparison tab in CaptureDeck.
The article describes two ways to inspect consecutive captures:

- Intuitive interface of a conventional FTP client
- Easy and Reliable FTP Site Maintenance.
- FTP Automation and Synchronization
- Slider View: Move between the earlier and later screenshot to inspect what changed visually.
- Diff View: Highlight areas that differ between the captures.
Treat this as the CaptureDeck workflow described by that article, not as evidence that the comparison interface is included in the Urlbox API. The available sources do not establish which plans include this workflow or which alerting options are available.
Make sure each run is fresh
A monitoring job can appear unchanged if it keeps receiving a cached render. Urlbox’s render options documentation lists ttl with a default and maximum of 2,592,000 seconds (30 days), and documents a unique value for controlling when to generate a fresh screenshot. Check your request’s cache settings and use the documented freshness controls when each scheduled run needs a new capture.

Protect API credentials
Urlbox’s quickstart explains API keys and HMAC-SHA256-signed render links; its API reference documents bearer-secret authentication. Keep secrets on your server rather than exposing them in public client-side code, and follow the secure method documented for your integration.
Common monitoring problems
- The screenshot looks identical despite a known update: Check whether the request is returning a cached render; review
ttland theuniquesetting for the capture. - Content is missing from a full-page capture: Lazy-loaded content may depend on scrolling behavior. Urlbox’s stitch flow scrolls to trigger such content; test the result and avoid disabling scrolling unless appropriate.
- The diff reports banners or popups instead of meaningful changes: The site may be showing a changing consent banner, newsletter popup, or chat widget. Configure a consistent capture state using the documented hide or click controls where they work, then verify the resulting screenshots.
- Page sections shift between runs: Responsive layout, dynamic content, sticky elements, or changed page height may be responsible. Keep viewport and capture scope fixed, and validate full-page mode on the actual site.
- Native full-page mode is incomplete or inaccurate: Urlbox notes that native mode may not work well on every site. Try stitch mode and compare the result on the target page.
Or skip the browser setup
If you need a screenshot endpoint rather than building and scheduling the capture pipeline yourself, ScreenshotNeo returns a screenshot or PDF from one GET request. Its cookie/consent cleanup removes known consent banners, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture; bot checks, blank pages, and failed loads are not billed. It also offers an MCP server so AI agents can take screenshots.
Example using cURL:
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for request options. Its free plan includes 1,000 screenshots per month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000. Sign up for free.
