TikTok’s Shopping Assistant is a conversational AI feature for asking questions about a product on an eligible product page. If it appears, use it to look up details such as sizing, shipping, colors, or availability, then check the listing and checkout details yourself before buying. As of TikTok’s October 5, 2026 announcement, access is part of eligibility-based testing opportunities for advertisers—not a feature confirmed for every TikTok Shop shopper.
How to use TikTok’s Shopping Assistant
TikTok describes the assistant as a chat on a product page in TikTok’s in-app browser. The exact shopper-facing button label and tap sequence are not specified in TikTok’s published explanation, so the practical steps depend on whether the feature is available on the product page you are viewing.

- Open a product page in TikTok. Look for a Shopping Assistant chat entry on the page. TikTok says the feature is being tested through eligibility-based opportunities for advertisers; if you do not see it, there may be no assistant control available to you.
- Ask a specific question about that item. For example: “Do they fit true to size?”, “What colors are available?” or “Will the material hold up on granite trails?” TikTok offers these as sample product questions. It also identifies product details, shipping, sizing, and availability as topics the assistant can address.
- Follow up to pin down a decision. If the answer is vague, ask about the size or option that matches your needs, or request the relevant product detail. For shipping or availability, ask about the specific variant you intend to buy.
- Verify important details on the listing. TikTok says answers draw on information provided by the merchant. Check the selected variant, size, seller, shipping terms, total cost, and return information on the product or checkout pages before placing an order.
- Continue through the checkout route shown. TikTok’s business explanation says checkout can continue on the merchant’s site inside TikTok’s in-app browser. Do not assume that using the assistant automatically means an in-app purchase or a one-tap checkout.
What the assistant can—and cannot—tell you
The feature is intended to help shoppers move from product discovery to a decision by answering contextual questions during the shopping journey. TikTok says it can remember a shopper’s needs in that journey. Its examples include questions about product details, sizing, shipping, and availability.

That makes the chat a convenient way to surface listing information, not an independent product review. The answers rely on merchant-provided information; TikTok’s description does not establish that the assistant independently inspects products, verifies seller claims, guarantees fit, or confirms that an item is in stock. Treat important claims as something to check against the listing and checkout information.

Shopping Assistant, Buy Direct, and Creator Assistant are different
| Feature | Who it is for | What it does and where checkout happens |
|---|---|---|
| Shopping Assistant | Shoppers | Conversational product guidance on a product page in TikTok’s in-app browser, based on merchant-provided information. TikTok describes access as part of eligibility-based advertiser testing. |
| Buy Direct | Shoppers and participating brands | A separate native checkout option that lets shoppers buy from a brand without leaving TikTok. TikTok for Business says it requires Universal Commerce Protocol integration. |
| Creator Assistant | TikTok Shop creators | A creator workflow for product discovery and analysis, scripts, titles, hashtags, covers, and guided video creation. TikTok Shop Academy says creators can open it from Creator Center or the Video tab; generated content should be reviewed and edited before posting. |
These tools serve different purposes. A Shopping Assistant conversation does not mean that Buy Direct is available for that item, and Creator Assistant is for making creator content rather than answering a shopper’s product questions.
Why you may not see the shopping assistant
TikTok’s October 5, 2026 business explanation describes Shopping Assistant and related agentic shopping solutions as available through eligibility-based testing opportunities for advertisers. The reviewed announcement does not give a public consumer rollout schedule, exact shopper account requirements, or a confirmed list of regions where the assistant is available. TikTok Shop being available in a market does not by itself establish that Shopping Assistant is available there.
