What a custom feed does
A Threads custom feed is a saved destination built around an interest or a group of profiles. Instead of relying on the main recommendation stream, you open the feed when you want posts focused on a particular subject, community or set of accounts. For example, you might create separate feeds for smartphone news, local events, open-source software, photography or a professional field.

Meta described shared feeds in February 2025 as a way to connect people around similar interests and find relevant profiles and conversations. That description explains the practical value: a feed is both a personal reading view and, if you make it public, a curated starting point other people can discover.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsCustom feeds are saved collections. They are different from temporary recommendation controls such as Dear Algo and Your Algo, which ask Threads to show more or less of a topic for a limited period.

Create a custom feed from a topic search
The most clearly reported creation route starts with a topic search. The exact button position may have changed since the November 2024 walkthrough on which this sequence is based, so treat the wording as a guide and look for an equivalent menu if your screen differs.
- Open Threads and search for an interest. Use a specific phrase rather than a broad term when you want a focused feed. Searching for “Android security updates,” for example, is likely to produce a more useful starting point than simply searching for “technology.”
- Open the topic’s results page. Do not stop on the initial search suggestions. The feed-creation command is associated with the results view.
- Open the three-dot menu beside the search term. In the reported mobile layout, this menu appears next to the searched topic.
- Select Create New Feed. Threads saves a feed based on that topic. If the command is not visible, update the app, reopen the results page and check whether the menu is available on your account.
- Give the feed a useful name if Threads asks. Names such as “Weekend cycling,” “Linux security” or “Camera reviews” are easier to distinguish than several feeds with nearly identical topic names.
The reported route is not a guaranteed universal path. Threads tests features and changes navigation, and availability can vary between iPhone, Android and web accounts. If a search menu does not offer feed creation, try opening a profile menu instead, as described below, or check the feed-management controls at the top of the app.
Add specific profiles to a feed
A topic-based feed is useful for discovery, but you may also want a predictable list of people whose posts you trust. The November 2024 report describes adding a profile by visiting that profile, tapping the three-dot menu above the profile photo and choosing the option to add the profile to one of your feeds.
Recommended Free Tools
- Open the profile you want to include.
- Tap the three-dot menu above the profile photo.
- Choose the command for adding the profile to a feed.
- Select an existing custom feed, or create one if Threads offers that choice.
- Repeat for other profiles that belong to the same subject.
This profile route is reported behavior rather than a current, universal guarantee. The menu may be located elsewhere or use different wording in a newer build. If you cannot find it, open your feed-management area and look for an add-profile control, or search for the profile and use the topic-results menu.
Mixing a topic with selected profiles gives you two kinds of coverage: new accounts that discuss the subject and reliable accounts you already know. Keep the list intentional. Adding every account that mentions a topic can make a feed as noisy as the main timeline.
Organize, pin and choose your feeds
Pin a feed for quick access
Meta says custom feeds can be pinned to the Threads home screen. Pin the feeds you open most often, such as a work-related feed during the week or a hobby feed at the weekend. Pinning changes access, not the posts inside the feed.
If a feed is no longer useful, unpin it rather than deleting it immediately. You can keep it available for occasional reference while removing it from the primary row of destinations.

Set a custom feed as the default
Meta has also documented the ability to choose a created custom feed as the feed that opens by default. The March announcement confirms the capability but does not specify a single current settings path. Look in the feed selector or feed-management controls for a “default” or “open by default” option.
This setting is useful when you use Threads mainly for one subject. It does not delete or hide the Home feed; it changes which destination appears first when you open the app. If the option is absent, the feature may not yet be enabled for your account, platform or region.
Make a feed public and share it
A new feed is for your own use unless you change its visibility. Meta’s documented sharing workflow starts from the feed-management area.
- Hold the created feed at the top of the Threads app. This gesture opens management controls for the feed.
- Tap Edit feeds.
- Switch the feed to Public. If it is already public, leave the setting enabled.
- Tap View feed. This opens the feed itself rather than the edit screen.
- Choose how to share it. Use the quote icon to publish a preview in a post, or tap Share feed to send a link or direct message.
A public feed is a curated destination that other people can inspect and use. Before publishing one, review the profiles and topic scope. A feed that combines unrelated subjects can be confusing, and a feed built around a private interest may be better kept personal.
Public status changes discoverability; it does not give you ownership of other people’s posts. Posts can be edited, deleted or made unavailable by their authors, so a shared feed’s contents can change over time.
Find feeds created by other people
Meta said public feeds can be discovered through a Feeds tab on profiles. Open a profile that appears to curate a subject, look for that tab and select a public feed. The location is announcement-era documentation, so the tab may be renamed or moved in a later interface.
After opening someone else’s public feed, pin it if you want one-tap access. A discovered feed can save time when another person has already assembled a useful group of profiles and conversations. Treat it as a starting point rather than a guarantee that every account or post matches your standards.

Use custom feeds on Threads web
Meta says custom feeds appear at the top of the single-column Threads website in the same order as on mobile. This makes a feed you organized on your phone available on a computer without rebuilding it.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Threads web also offers a multi-column view. In that workspace, you can add and reorder columns, including custom feeds and other destinations. A practical arrangement is to keep a general timeline in one column, a work or news feed in another and a slower-moving hobby feed in a third.
If a feed is missing on web, confirm that you are signed into the same account used on mobile. Then refresh the page and check the feed row at the top. Web and mobile rollouts do not always occur at the same time, so a feature can appear on one platform before the other.
Build feeds that stay useful
Choose a narrow purpose
Define what you want to answer before creating a feed. “What are people saying about this phone’s software update?” is a clearer purpose than “all technology.” Narrow purposes make it easier to judge whether a profile belongs.
- News feed: follow profiles and discussions about a defined event or beat.
- Learning feed: collect explainers, practitioners and reference accounts.
- Community feed: follow a local area, club or professional group.
- Project feed: monitor accounts connected to a product, standard or open-source effort.
Balance discovery and reliability
Topic search can surface new voices, while profile additions give you control over the accounts you see repeatedly. Use both. A feed made only from a few familiar profiles may miss emerging information; a feed made only from broad topic matching may contain repetition or low-quality posts.
Review the feed periodically
Feeds are saved destinations, not static archives. Remove profiles that have changed subject, become inactive or add unwanted noise. If the topic itself has moved on, create a fresh feed with a narrower search instead of allowing an old one to grow indefinitely.
Custom feeds versus Dear Algo and Your Algo
Threads has described separate tools for temporarily adjusting recommendations. They answer a different need from a saved custom feed.

| Tool | What it changes | Duration described by Meta | Best use |
|---|---|---|---|
| Custom feed | A saved destination focused on a topic and, where supported, selected profiles | Persistent until you edit, unpin or remove it | Recurring interests you want to visit repeatedly |
| Dear Algo | A public post request for more or less of a topic in recommendations | Three days | A short-term adjustment when your recommendations need tuning |
| Your Algo | A private request for more or less of selected topics | One, three or seven days | Temporary personal control over recommendation volume |
Meta’s initial description of Dear Algo listed the United States, New Zealand, Australia and the United Kingdom. Its June 2026 announcement described Your Algo as initially rolling out in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia and New Zealand. Those were launch geographies; availability may have expanded, and the controls may not be present on every account.
Use a custom feed when you want a destination you can return to. Use an algorithm-control feature when you want to change recommendations for a limited period. Neither replaces the other.

Private and public use: choose deliberately
A personal feed is appropriate when you are testing a topic, collecting accounts for work or following a sensitive interest. You can refine it without explaining the choices to anyone else.
A public feed is appropriate when the selection itself has value to a community. Before switching it on, ask:
- Would another person understand the feed’s purpose from its name and contents?
- Are the included profiles relevant, active and safe for the audience you expect?
- Does the feed accidentally expose a personal reading pattern you intended to keep private?
- Will you maintain it after sharing, or will it quickly become outdated?
Sharing a preview post can help people understand the feed before they open it. Sending the feed as a link or direct message is better when you already know who should receive it.
Troubleshoot missing options
“Create New Feed” is not visible
- Confirm that you opened the topic’s results page, not just the search suggestions.
- Open the three-dot menu beside the search term.
- Update Threads and restart it.
- Try the same account on the other supported platform.
- Check whether your account or region has received the feature.
The documented creation sequence comes from a November 2024 report, while Meta’s official announcements focus on sharing, discovery, pinning, default selection and web access. Because of that difference, a missing command does not necessarily mean you are using the wrong account or device.
You cannot add a profile
Open the profile directly and inspect the three-dot menu above the profile photo. If no feed option appears, use feed management to look for an add-profile control. The reported profile menu may have changed in your version.
Best Value
A public feed cannot be shared
Return to the feed list, hold the feed, tap Edit feeds and verify that Public is enabled. Then open View feed; the quote and Share feed controls are described from that view. If you are trying to share a private feed, make it public first or keep it for personal use.
The feed is not on the web
Check that the web session uses the same Threads account and refresh the page. Look at the top feed row in single-column mode, or add the feed as a column in the multi-column workspace. A staged rollout can make the web controls look different from the mobile app.
Limits to keep in mind
Threads interfaces change frequently. The three-dot menu, the wording of feed commands and the location of the feed selector may differ by app version, platform, region and account. The creation path described above is the clearest reported sequence, not a promise that every user will see identical screens.
Meta’s announcements establish that feeds can be made public, shared, pinned, discovered through profile Feeds tabs, used on the web and selected as a default destination. They do not provide one universal, current screen-by-screen route for creating a feed. When your interface differs, follow the same functional concepts: start from a topic or profile, add it to a feed, then manage visibility and access from the feed controls.
A practical setup example
Suppose you want a feed for mobile security news:
- Search for “mobile security updates” and open the results.
- Use the three-dot menu and select Create New Feed.
- Add profiles belonging to security researchers, operating-system teams and specialist reporters through their profile menus.
- Pin the feed so it is available from the home screen.
- Use it privately for a week and remove accounts that post mostly unrelated material.
- If the finished selection would help colleagues, edit the feed, switch it to Public, open View feed and share the link or a preview.
- If this is the first destination you need each morning, look for the option to make it the default feed.
This process separates construction from publication: first make the feed useful to you, then decide whether it should be discoverable by others.
Quick checklist
- Search for a specific topic and open its results.
- Use the three-dot menu and choose Create New Feed when available.
- Add individual profiles through their profile menus when you need a tighter selection.
- Pin frequently used feeds.
- Look for the default-feed control if you want a custom feed to open first.
- For sharing, hold the feed, choose Edit feeds, enable Public, open View feed and use the quote or sharing control.
- Find other public feeds through profile Feeds tabs when that interface is available.
- Use the web feed row or multi-column layout for desktop reading.
- Use Dear Algo or Your Algo only when you want a temporary recommendation adjustment, not a saved feed.
Bottom line
Custom feeds are Threads’ durable way to separate recurring interests from the general recommendation stream. Start with a topic search, add the profiles that matter, pin the result and keep it private until it is organized. When a feed is genuinely useful to a community, make it public and share it from View feed. Because Threads changes its interface and rolls features out unevenly, follow those functions rather than relying on one fixed screen layout.
