What the Community tab can—and cannot—do for growth
Community posts let you reach viewers with more than videos. Depending on the post and the viewer, content may appear on your channel’s Posts tab or Home shelf, in Home or Subscriptions feeds, and—in the case of image posts—in the Shorts feed. YouTube may notify subscribers, but notification delivery is not guaranteed. See YouTube’s overview of posts.

That creates opportunities to prompt interaction, learn audience preferences, and maintain a connection between uploads. YouTube recommends community-building practices and says returning casual and regular viewers are more likely to be recommended more videos from a channel. That does not establish that posts themselves trigger recommendations or cause channel growth. Treat post engagement as feedback, not proof that a post produced more views or subscribers.

YouTube supports text, polls, quizzes, GIFs, images, and video posts. The right format depends on what you want viewers to do or learn; formats are not interchangeable when you assess their performance.

YouTube’s current help page describes text and image polls and quizzes with up to four options. Desktop post creation supports text, video, poll, quiz, and image posts, and a post can include up to 10 images. Check YouTube’s post-creation instructions for current interface details.
Build posts into your publishing rhythm
Make posts complement the videos you publish rather than compete with them. YouTube recommends a regular schedule and suggests weekly conversation starters, polls, or follow-up questions. Weekly is platform guidance, not a universal optimum: choose a pace you can sustain and that gives you time to participate in the responses.
Before an upload
Ask viewers to choose between a small number of plausible upcoming topics, or share a relevant teaser. Make the connection to the planned video clear, and use responses as one input—not the sole measure—when deciding what to make.

Between uploads
Share useful behind-the-scenes material, ask a focused question about your subject, or invite viewers to discuss a point from a recent video. Avoid posting simply to fill a calendar slot; the post should offer a reason to respond or a useful update.
After an upload
Follow up with a question that invites viewers to explain what helped, what remains unclear, or what they want covered next. Reply to comments and viewer posts where appropriate. A prompt followed by creator participation is more conversational than a one-way announcement.
YouTube’s posts tips and community connection guidance offer additional suggestions, including a welcome post when opening a dedicated Community space.

Create a post in YouTube
- Sign in to YouTube with an account that has the required channel access.
- Open the post composer from YouTube’s native interface, then choose the format—text, video, poll, quiz, or image—available to your channel.
- Write one clear prompt or update. For a poll or quiz, keep choices easy to understand; for an image or video, make sure the visual supports the post’s purpose.
- Review the audience and visibility settings shown in the composer, then publish or schedule the post if scheduling is available to you.
- Return to the post to respond to viewers and note useful suggestions for future uploads.
Exact controls can vary with the interface and channel access. Use YouTube Help’s current create-a-post steps if a control is missing or has moved.

- Open YouTube Studio and go to Analytics.
- Use the Content tab and select or filter for Posts to review post impressions and top posts by likes or votes, as described in YouTube’s Content tab guidance.
- Compare posts by purpose, topic, format, and time period. Where possible, compare like with like: YouTube notes that post type can affect impressions.
- Use differences as a prompt for your next experiment. For example, test another poll on a related topic or rework a question that attracted little conversation.
- Track channel outcomes such as video views and subscribers separately if those matter to your goal. Impressions, likes, and votes on a post alone do not show that the post caused channel growth.
There is no single performance pattern that applies to every audience. Treat analytics as directional feedback, allow for differences in topic and format, and adjust your cadence to your ability to respond.

Do not confuse the Posts feature with a dedicated Community space. Posts are creator-published content. A dedicated Community space allows subscribers to start discussions and share material, has separate eligibility criteria, and its Community-only posts have different visibility from Posts-tab posts.

Posts are unavailable for supervised accounts and channels set as made for kids. YouTube says they are not currently available in Germany. Access can also vary by channel role.
