To capture a web page with the LambdaTest Screenshot API, send a JSON payload to https://api.lambdatest.com/screenshots/v1/ using HTTP Basic authentication, save the returned test_id, then request that test’s results and inspect its status before using any screenshot URL. Current API and support pages use the name TestMu AI (formerly LambdaTest); the documented API host remains api.lambdatest.com.
Submit a screenshot job from Python
The following is an example pattern using Python’s requests library and the API’s documented Basic authentication. It is not a vendor SDK or a claim that the request was tested. Set credentials in environment variables rather than placing them in source code.

For example, on macOS or Linux, use export LT_USERNAME='your-username' and export LT_ACCESS_KEY='your-access-key' in the process environment. Avoid committing secrets or logging them.
The current API reference describes an Authorization header containing Basic followed by the Base64-encoded username:password. The auth=(username, access_key) argument asks Requests to construct that Basic-auth header; do not put the access key in a URL.

Build a useful browser matrix
The example configures an operating system, browser, browser version, and resolution. Those dimensions determine what environment the hosted test should exercise. Choose combinations that match your users or the browsers you need to verify. The API’s current accepted field names and values, including required fields, should be checked in the current start-test API reference before adapting the payload.
Browser catalogs change. Older guide examples demonstrate payload shape, not a promise that their historical browser versions remain available. Confirm supported operating-system and browser combinations in current documentation rather than assuming a version is still selectable.

Retrieve and inspect screenshot results
After submission, use the returned test_id in a GET request to the screenshot endpoint. A result response includes test status and screenshot records; wait until the test reports a usable completion state before consuming an image URL.

)Field nesting and exact response shape can depend on the API response; use the result endpoint reference to confirm current names. A screenshot record can expose operating system, browser, browser version, status, screenshot URL, thumbnail URL, activity ID, and resolution. Check the individual record’s status as well as the overall test status before treating its URL as a successful capture.

Choose payload options deliberately
The start-test reference lists fields beyond the URL, including defer_time, email, mac_res, win_res, tunnel, tunnel_identifier, username, password, callback_url, and configs. Their requirements and valid values are API-specific; do not add them by guesswork. The example above uses only the URL and a configuration matrix, so consult the current reference for any extra field your use case needs.
For private or locally reachable sites, check the platform’s current tunnel documentation and configuration requirements. Do not place application login credentials in code or expose them in logs; if the API requires site credentials for a particular test, handle them through an approved secret mechanism and confirm the parameter behavior in the official reference.

Troubleshoot common failures
- 401 or 403 response: Verify the username and access key, that both environment variables are set in the process running Python, and that they are passed as Basic-auth credentials. Do not encode them into the request URL.
- 4xx response for the payload: Check the JSON structure, configuration field names, and supported OS/browser/resolution values against the current start-test reference. A historical example is not proof that its browser version remains supported.
- No
test_idin the response: Do not proceed to a guessed results URL. Preserve the error response safely, inspect its status and body for the API’s explanation, and resolve the submission error first. - Results are not ready or a screenshot record failed: Inspect the returned test and per-screenshot statuses. The reviewed documentation does not establish a fixed completion time, polling interval, or retry policy, so use the service’s current guidance rather than assuming a timing guarantee.
- Missing or unusable screenshot URL: Confirm that the relevant screenshot record is successful and that the response field is present. Do not mistake a thumbnail URL or a failed record for the full screenshot.
Performance, reliability, and cost considerations
This is a hosted screenshot workflow: a request starts remote test work and a separate request retrieves its results. The reviewed API material does not establish a fixed runtime, rate limit, reliability figure, or price, so plan operational behavior and costs using the current service terms rather than assuming a particular latency or allowance. For production jobs, retain the returned test ID, handle HTTP errors, and make result processing conditional on reported status.
