App features differ across the range: JBL says PartyBox 200 and 300 lighting must be changed on the speaker itself.
Check whether your PartyBox supports the app
JBL’s support article names the PartyBox Encore, Encore Essential, 110, 310, and 710 as app-supported models. JBL’s release notes also document support additions for PartyBox On-The-Go 2, PartyBox 720, Encore 2, and Encore Essential 2. These lists are not necessarily a complete, up-to-date compatibility list, so check JBL support or the app for your exact model before counting on a particular control.

Support for the app does not mean every model exposes the same controls. Available features and screen labels can vary. In particular, JBL says the PartyBox 200 and 300 light shows cannot be adjusted in the app.
Connect your phone to the speaker
- Install the JBL PartyBox app and turn on the speaker.
- Press the speaker’s Bluetooth button to make it available for pairing.
- Open Bluetooth settings on your phone, select the PartyBox name, and connect. JBL’s Encore Essential 2 manual says the speaker reconnects to its last connected device; you can also select it manually.
- Open the PartyBox app and select the connected speaker. Use the controls shown for that model.
The pairing instructions above come from the Encore Essential 2 manual; menu wording and app screens may differ on other models.

Adjust sound in the app
Depending on the model, JBL lists app controls for playback and source selection, Bass Boost, and some top-panel functions. These let you control aspects of playback and speaker operation remotely; the controls shown in the app determine what is available on your speaker.
Change karaoke microphone tone
For supported karaoke models, the app can adjust microphone bass, treble, and echo. These are microphone tone controls, not evidence that the app provides a general equalizer for music playback. JBL’s January 15, 2025 release notes say the available adjustment levels for microphone Bass, Treble, and Echo increased from six to twelve.

Customize lighting on supported models
Where a model supports app-based light-show control, JBL lists options to change themes, adjust animations, toggle animations or strobe, customize colors, and use SOLO mode. Open the lighting controls in the app and choose from the options displayed for your speaker; the available choices and labels may differ by model.

PartyBox 200 and 300: use the speaker’s Light Show button
For the PartyBox 200 and 300, JBL’s model-specific instructions say to press the dedicated Light Show button under the Bluetooth icon to cycle through three shows. JBL states, “There is no app developed to control or modify these settings, all settings have to be done on the Partybox device.” This lighting guidance applies to those two models, not the entire PartyBox range.

JBL’s Encore Essential 2 manual gives these checks for that model if Bluetooth pairing or controls do not work as expected:
Rank #4
- Superior JBL Pro Sound: We’re cranking out 800 watts of JBL Pro Sound—loud, clean, and full of deep bass from those two massive 9” woofers. The tweeters keep the highs crisp and clear, so every track hits just right and the dance floor stays packed.
- Futuristic lightshow: Mix all that epic sound with a lightshow to match—vibrant stars, flowing trails, and strobes that move with the beat. It’s a full-on vibe.
- Up to 15 hours playtime: Keep the music going for up to 15 hours on a single charge. Need more juice? Swap in the backup batteries (sold separately) and keep it moving. Just need a quick boost? A 10-minute fast charge gets you up to 2 extra hours of playtime.
- Ergonomic integrated handle and wider sturdy wheels: Taking the party outside just got easier—wider wheels roll smooth on rough ground, and the built-in handle makes it easy to grab and go.
- IPX4 Splash proof: Whether we’re hanging in the park or chilling by the pool, the PartyBox 720 is IPX4 splash proof—so a little water is no big deal.
- Confirm Bluetooth is enabled on the phone.
- Move the phone closer to the speaker if reception is poor.
- Disconnect another phone that is connected to the speaker, if needed.
- If most top-panel controls are unavailable, check whether the top panel is locked. The manual says a locked panel disables most of those controls and directs users to the app to unlock it.
These troubleshooting steps are from the Encore Essential 2 manual; other PartyBox models may have different controls or procedures.
