Alexa+ is built in, so you can say “Alexa” or tap the Ask Alexa button to control lights, plugs, switches, thermostats and cameras that are connected to your Amazon account. It is not documented as a dedicated smart-home hub: Amazon has not confirmed that the tablet itself contains Zigbee, Thread, Matter or another smart-home radio.
The practical setup is therefore to connect each device through its supported Alexa route, then use the Tablet 11 for commands, status checks and routines. If you need a permanently mounted panel with documented multi-protocol hardware, Amazon positions Echo Hub—not the Tablet 11—as that product.

What the Tablet 11 does in a smart home
Amazon describes Alexa+ as built into the Alexa Tablet 11 and says it can control the smart home in a tablet-specific experience. That makes the tablet useful as a general-purpose control point: it can issue voice requests, show information and run other tablet tasks while controlling compatible devices.

A hub contains radios or other local connectivity hardware that can communicate directly with devices using protocols such as Zigbee, Thread or Matter. Amazon’s published Tablet 11 announcement does not establish that the tablet has any of those radios. Compatibility and connectivity therefore depend on each device’s supported Alexa method, your network and, where required, another compatible controller.

How you invoke Alexa
- Say “Alexa,” followed by a request, when the tablet is listening for the wake word.
- Tap the Ask Alexa button and speak or enter your request through the tablet’s Alexa interface.
- Use ordinary device names and room names, such as “turn off the kitchen lights” or “set the hallway thermostat to 20 degrees,” after those devices have been added to your Amazon account.
Alexa’s response and available controls can vary by device maker, device type, account region and the capability exposed to Alexa. A command that works for a light may not exist for a camera or thermostat.
Tablet 11 specifications that affect control-panel use
Amazon’s 2026 announcement lists the following specifications. They are manufacturer figures, not independent test results.
| Specification | Amazon’s announced detail | Why it matters for a control surface |
|---|---|---|
| Display | 11-inch, 2.5K resolution | Provides more room for visual responses and touch controls than a small smart speaker. |
| Pixel density | 276 pixels per inch | Text and device status should appear relatively sharp at normal tablet distance. |
| Refresh rate | 90Hz | Supports smoother scrolling and touch interaction in the tablet interface. |
| Processor and memory | 8-core processor and 8GB RAM | Designed for a full tablet workload rather than a single-purpose panel. |
| Audio | Dual Dolby Atmos speakers | Alexa replies and media can be heard without an additional speaker nearby. |
| Video playback | Up to 15 hours | Useful for mobile use; Amazon does not state that this figure represents continuous smart-home dashboard operation. |
| Storage and announced U.S. starting price | 64GB; $329.99 | The announced entry configuration, not a guarantee of current retail inventory or a recurring promotion. |
What you need before adding devices
- An Amazon account with Alexa available in your region.
- A working Wi-Fi connection for the tablet and any Wi-Fi-based devices.
- Smart-home products whose packaging, instructions or manufacturer app identify Alexa compatibility.
- Any manufacturer account, bridge, skill or app required by the individual product.
- Names that are easy for Alexa to distinguish, such as “desk lamp” and “hall lamp,” plus room assignments where supported.
Do not assume that a product connects directly to the tablet because it works with Alexa. Amazon’s Alexa device FAQ identifies several possible connection routes: an Alexa smart-home skill, direct connection for certain products, Bluetooth or Wi-Fi, and setup through the Alexa app. Some products may appear automatically; others require discovery or a separate setup process.
Connect compatible devices to Alexa
Use the route specified for the device. The labels and order can differ between manufacturers, so treat the product’s own setup instructions as authoritative.
Route 1: Add the product’s Alexa skill
- Complete the device maker’s initial setup, including account creation or pairing, if required.
- In the Alexa app, locate the skill or integration named by the device maker.
- Enable that integration and sign in with the device-maker account when prompted.
- Allow Alexa to discover the devices exposed by the integration.
- Give each discovered device a distinct name and assign it to the intended room.
- On the Tablet 11, say “Alexa” or tap Ask Alexa, then test one simple command.
A skill can expose only the functions its maker supports. If Alexa can turn a light on and off but cannot change its color, that is usually a capability limitation rather than a Tablet 11 fault.

- Fast performance, all-day battery: Up to 15 hours of video playback. Quick performance with 8-core chip and 8GB RAM for smooth streaming, reading, and more. Wi-Fi 6, 8MP rear and front cameras.

- Seamless and personalized: Amazon apps—Prime Video, Kindle, Audible, Amazon Music, Amazon Luna—are built-in and sync across devices with single sign-on and personalized content.
Route 2: Use a direct connection when the product supports one
- Follow the device’s instructions for putting it into pairing or connection mode.
- Choose the direct Alexa connection option offered by that product or its setup flow.
- Finish naming and room assignment in the Alexa app.
- Ask Alexa for an on/off or status command and confirm the device responds.
Amazon does not list the Tablet 11 as a universal direct-pairing hub. A direct route is available only when the individual device and Alexa setup explicitly support it.
Route 3: Finish setup in the Alexa app
- Open the Alexa app and start the smart-home device setup flow recommended for the product.
- Complete any Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, bridge or manufacturer-account steps shown by that flow.
- Run discovery if the device does not appear automatically.
- Rename duplicates and place devices in rooms so spoken commands are unambiguous.
- Test control from the Tablet 11 after setup finishes.
If a product requires a separate bridge or another compatible controller, that hardware remains part of the system. The tablet supplies the Alexa interface; it does not replace undisclosed device-specific hardware.

Voice commands
Start with explicit commands while you verify names:
- “Alexa, turn on the living room lamp.”
- “Alexa, turn off all the downstairs lights.”
- “Alexa, set the bedroom thermostat to 19 degrees.”
- “Alexa, is the front-door camera available?”
- “Alexa, run movie time.”
Routines can combine several supported actions, such as switching lights and plugs together. Create or edit routines in the Alexa app, then invoke them by their routine name from the tablet. Keep routine names short and distinct from device names.
Touch and visual interaction
The 11-inch 2.5K display gives you a larger surface for Alexa responses, media and other tablet applications. Amazon’s announcement confirms a tablet-specific Alexa experience, but it does not publish a Tablet 11-specific smart-home dashboard layout or a guaranteed set of touch controls. Do not assume that every voice capability has a matching on-screen button.

Device Dashboard: what is documented and what is not
Amazon’s Fire Tablet Device Dashboard support page says users can favorite devices and routines in the Alexa app and open the dashboard from Quick Settings by swiping down from the top of the screen. That page lists lights, plugs, switches, thermostats and cameras.
Those instructions are general Fire tablet guidance, not confirmation for the newly announced Alexa Tablet 11. If the Tablet 11 receives a dashboard with the same controls, the documented Fire tablet path would be:
- Open the Alexa app and favorite the devices or routines you want readily available.
- On the tablet, swipe down from the top to open Quick Settings.
- Look for the Device Dashboard control and open it if Amazon presents it on your model.
If Device Dashboard is absent, do not repeatedly change unrelated settings or install an unofficial replacement. Use voice control, the Alexa app and the tablet’s standard Alexa interface until Amazon publishes model-specific instructions.
Do not rely on Show Mode assumptions
Amazon’s Show Mode support list covers named older Fire HD generations and explicitly excludes several models, including Fire Max 11 (13th Generation) and Fire HD 10 (13th Generation). That list does not establish Show Mode support for the Alexa Tablet 11. Do not follow an older Fire tablet Show Mode guide expecting the same result on this model.
On-Screen Intelligence and privacy choices
Amazon says On-Screen Intelligence is off by default on the Tablet 11. It requires opt-in, and Amazon says you can disable it in Settings. You do not need to enable this screen-aware feature to issue ordinary smart-home commands.

Connecting household devices to an Amazon account has privacy implications. Amazon’s Alexa FAQ says it may receive information such as a device’s type, name, features, status and usage history. Amazon also documents controls for reviewing and deleting certain third-party smart-home history. Those statements describe Amazon’s stated handling and controls; the exact data available can vary by device maker and integration.

Alexa says it cannot find the device
- Confirm the product completed its own setup and is online.
- Check that the correct skill or integration is enabled, or that the direct-connection route was completed.
- Run device discovery in the Alexa app if the product did not appear automatically.
- Verify the device is linked to the same Amazon account used on the Tablet 11.
Alexa controls the wrong device
Rename duplicate devices and assign them to rooms. “Lamp,” “lamp 2” and “bedside lamp” are easier to distinguish than several devices with the same name. Use the full room-and-device phrase until recognition is reliable.
A command works for one function but not another
Check the capability exposed by the integration. Alexa compatibility does not guarantee every feature in the manufacturer’s app, and the Tablet 11 cannot add functions that the device integration does not provide.
The tablet cannot control a local-protocol device
Do not infer that the tablet contains a Zigbee, Thread or Matter radio. Verify whether the product needs a bridge, a compatible Echo hub or another controller, then follow that product’s Alexa setup route.

The dashboard is missing
The Fire tablet dashboard instructions are not model-specific to Tablet 11. Use Alexa voice control and the Alexa app, and wait for a Tablet 11-specific support instruction before treating the Quick Settings route as guaranteed.

Tablet 11 or Echo Hub?
Amazon describes Echo Hub as a separate dedicated smart-home control panel. The distinction is important when choosing hardware.
| Decision factor | Alexa Tablet 11 | Echo Hub |
|---|---|---|
| Primary role | General-purpose 11-inch tablet with Alexa+ smart-home control | Dedicated smart-home control panel |
| Screen | 11-inch, 2.5K, 276 ppi, 90Hz | 8-inch touch display |
| Built-in protocol hub | Not established by Amazon’s Tablet 11 announcement | Amazon documents Zigbee, Sidewalk, Thread, Bluetooth and Matter support |
| Placement | Portable tablet use; a permanent mount is not established in the announcement | Amazon describes wall mounting; a stand is sold separately |
| Best fit | People who want one device for Alexa, media and general tablet tasks | People seeking a fixed, dedicated control point with integrated connectivity |
| Price comparison | Announced U.S. starting price of $329.99 for 64GB; live pricing not verified here | Current price not stated in the cited material |
Choose the Tablet 11 when portability and general tablet features matter and your devices already have a reliable Alexa connection route. Choose Echo Hub when a dedicated panel, wall placement or its documented built-in protocol support is more important than general-purpose tablet use.
Placement and daily operating advice
Place it where commands are practical
Keep the tablet within comfortable speaking distance of the rooms you control, while avoiding locations where the display is hard to see or the speakers are blocked. A central counter or shelf can work for a portable setup; a permanent wall installation requires an appropriate mounting solution, which Amazon’s Tablet 11 announcement does not specify.
Use power according to your routine
Amazon’s “up to 15 hours” figure is for video playback. It is not a published endurance figure for an always-on smart-home panel, so plan charging around your actual use rather than treating 15 hours as guaranteed dashboard time.
Keep names and routines maintainable
- Use one naming pattern throughout the home, such as room plus function.
- Retire old device names after replacing hardware so Alexa does not retain confusing duplicates.
- Test important routines manually after changing a device, account or integration.
- Use the tablet’s Ask Alexa button when speaking is inconvenient or the wake word is not detected.
Availability and pricing context
Amazon announced a U.S. starting price of $329.99 for the 64GB Tablet 11. The announcement listed shipping from October 14, 2026, in the United States, Mexico and Canada, followed by October 19, 2026, in the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Italy and Spain. These are announcement dates, not a live inventory check; confirm the retailer listing, regional configuration and delivery estimate before ordering.
Bottom line for a smart-home setup
Use the Alexa Tablet 11 as an Alexa-enabled control surface: connect each compatible device through its supported skill, direct connection or Alexa-app setup, then control it by saying “Alexa” or tapping Ask Alexa. Treat Device Dashboard and Show Mode as unconfirmed for this newly announced model unless Amazon publishes Tablet 11-specific support. The tablet’s announcement does not establish built-in smart-home radios, so readers who need a fixed panel with documented Zigbee, Thread, Matter, Bluetooth and Sidewalk support should evaluate Echo Hub instead.
