The Ted Lasso license documented by EA is a FIFA 23 feature, not a confirmed feature of every later EA SPORTS FC release. First, identify the game you actually own
Search results often use “EA Sports FC” as a general label, but the official Ted Lasso instructions are tied to FIFA 23. EA announced the collaboration in September 2022 and described Ted Lasso and AFC Richmond as FIFA 23 content. The announcement does not establish that the same licensed characters and club are present in EA SPORTS FC 24, EA SPORTS FC 25 or another later release.
EA’s EA SPORTS FC 25 product page presents that game’s modes but does not list Ted Lasso or AFC Richmond among its presented features. That page is not proof that every later edition lacks the content, but it is a reason not to assume that a current EA SPORTS FC purchase includes it. If Ted Lasso is the reason you are buying, use a FIFA 23 listing and verify its edition, platform and region before paying.

- Ted Lasso is selectable as a playable manager in FIFA 23 Career Mode.
- AFC Richmond can be managed by swapping the club into the Premier League or another playable Career Mode league.

Choose the right Career Mode setup
Use Manager Career when you want to control a club. EA’s current Career Mode explanation says Manager Career covers the squad, tactics, transfers, finances and player development, while Player Career follows one individual footballer. That distinction is general Career Mode guidance; it does not extend the FIFA 23 Ted Lasso license to newer games. Read the mode descriptions at EA’s Career Mode guide if you need to decide between the two career types.

Step-by-step: start a Manager Career with Ted Lasso
- Launch FIFA 23. Confirm that the title shown on your platform is FIFA 23, not a later EA SPORTS FC release.
- Open Career Mode. From the main game menu, choose the Career Mode option rather than Kick-Off, Ultimate Team or Pro Clubs.
- Select Manager Career. This is the club-management path. Player Career is designed around an individual footballer and will not give you the same manager setup.
- Choose the manager-selection option. Select Ted Lasso when the game presents the available managers. EA describes him as a playable manager in FIFA 23 Career Mode.
- Select the club for your save. You can use Ted as manager of a club available in the normal Career Mode selection. If your objective is to manage AFC Richmond itself, use the separate club-swap procedure below.
- Configure the save and begin. Set the competition and other save settings offered by your edition, then proceed into the Manager Career dashboard. From there, the ordinary Manager Career responsibilities—squad choices, tactics, transfers, finances and player development—apply.
Selecting Ted as manager and managing AFC Richmond are related but different actions. The first changes the manager identity for your save. The second places a fictional club into a playable league so that club becomes the team you operate.
Step-by-step: put AFC Richmond into a playable league
- Start FIFA 23 and enter Career Mode.
- Choose Manager Career. A club swap is a club-management setup, not a Player Career activity.
- Select AFC Richmond as the club you want to manage. Look for the club-selection workflow that allows a team to be moved into a league.
- Choose the destination league. EA’s guide specifically names the Premier League and says you can use any other playable Career Mode league. Pick the competition you want Richmond to enter.
- Confirm the swap. The game replaces a club in that league with AFC Richmond for the save. Review the confirmation screen carefully before continuing, because the choice determines the competition in which your Richmond season runs.
- Finish the Manager Career setup. After the swap, continue through the normal save-creation screens. You manage Richmond’s squad and club decisions through the Manager Career dashboard.
EA’s wording establishes the league-swap feature but does not promise that every platform edition or every later game exposes the same option. If you cannot find AFC Richmond or the swap control, check the game title and edition first, then verify that you are in Manager Career rather than Player Career.
What “any other playable Career Mode league” means
The destination must be a league that your FIFA 23 edition exposes as playable in Career Mode. EA’s instruction does not say that Richmond can be inserted into every licensed competition or into a league that is not available in your edition. The Premier League is the named example; the broader choice is limited to the other playable Career Mode leagues shown by your game.
Use AFC Richmond outside Career Mode
Career Mode is not the only place EA announced the club. In its FIFA 23 announcement, EA listed AFC Richmond for three match-focused modes:

- Kick-Off: use Richmond in a one-off match setup.
- Online Friendlies: select Richmond when setting up an eligible match with a friend.
- Online Seasons: use the club within that online competition format, subject to the mode and account requirements of your copy of FIFA 23.
These modes do not use the Career Mode league-swap process. In a one-off match, you select the team in the match setup. In an online mode, the game’s team-selection and connection requirements govern what you can choose. If AFC Richmond is absent from a particular list, confirm that you are running FIFA 23 and that the mode is one EA named in the announcement.

EA also described Ted Lasso and AFC Richmond content for Ultimate Team and Pro Clubs, where applicable. Treat this as item-based content, not as another way to create the Career Mode club. Ultimate Team and Pro Clubs have their own menus, objectives and eligibility rules; an item unlocked there does not perform the AFC Richmond league swap in Manager Career.
The announcement does not provide a universal inventory of every item, objective or availability condition. Do not assume that an Ultimate Team card, cosmetic, manager item or Pro Clubs reward is available on every platform, in every region or indefinitely. Use the in-game content screen for the edition and account you are using.

“FIFA 23” alone may not identify the exact software build you are launching. Before purchasing a used copy, redeeming a code or troubleshooting missing content, verify:
- The listing names FIFA 23, not an EA SPORTS FC release.
- The platform matches your console or PC account.
- The edition and region are compatible with your platform and account.
- The game has completed its updates and can connect to the services required by the mode you are opening.
Physical and digital listings can differ by region, stock and activation requirements. Those details should be checked on the individual product listing; they cannot be inferred from EA’s feature announcement.

If the crossover is your main reason for buying, compare listings rather than assuming every copy is interchangeable. Confirm whether the offer is physical or digital, which console generation or PC store it supports, and whether the seller identifies a compatible region. A listing that says only “FIFA 23” may still require a platform-specific code or account activation. Check the return policy for used discs and the seller’s description for digital codes before payment.

No special controller, headset or other accessory is required by EA’s Ted Lasso instructions. The essential requirement is a compatible FIFA 23 installation and, for online modes or account-based items, access to the relevant game services. Do not pay extra for an accessory simply because a guide suggests it; it does not unlock Richmond.
Troubleshooting when Ted or Richmond is missing
The title is a later EA SPORTS FC game
This is the most important check. The documented instructions are for FIFA 23. EA’s FC 25 buying page does not present Ted Lasso or AFC Richmond as a feature. Do not expect a FIFA 23 menu path to work unchanged in a later title.
You opened Player Career
Player Career follows one footballer. Return to Career Mode’s starting screen and choose Manager Career before looking for manager selection or the club-swap workflow.
You are looking for Richmond in the wrong mode
For Career Mode, select the club and use the league-swap setup. For Kick-Off, Online Friendlies or Online Seasons, choose the team in that mode’s match setup. Ultimate Team and Pro Clubs use their own item and content menus.
Your edition or platform differs from the supported list
Compare the platform and edition shown on your box, store page or launcher with the platforms EA listed for FIFA 23. If the listing is ambiguous, ask the seller or platform store to confirm the exact edition before assuming the license is included.
The game is not updated or online content is unavailable
Install the latest update offered for your FIFA 23 installation, restart the game and check the relevant mode again. Some item-based content can depend on account or service availability, so an Ultimate Team or Pro Clubs issue may not affect Career Mode’s manager and club options.

How to plan the save once Richmond is installed
After the setup succeeds, manage the save as a normal Manager Career. Use the Manager Career systems EA identifies—squad management, tactics, transfers, finances and player development—to shape Richmond’s season. The Ted Lasso selection changes who represents the manager role; it does not remove the ordinary club-management decisions.

- For a Richmond-focused save: perform the club swap first, then select the competition in which you want Richmond to play.
- For a quick match: skip Career Mode and use Kick-Off.
- For a match with a friend: use Online Friendlies if your FIFA 23 setup supports the mode.
- For online league play: look for Richmond in Online Seasons, as announced by EA.
Keeping these goals separate prevents the most common mix-up: selecting Ted as a manager does not automatically move AFC Richmond into the Premier League, and choosing Richmond for a Career save does not unlock its Ultimate Team or Pro Clubs items.

The evidence available here confirms FIFA 23 support only. EA’s FIFA 23 guide and announcement are the authoritative instructions for the Ted Lasso collaboration. The current Career Mode help page explains how Manager Career and Player Career work in general, while the FC 25 product page lists that game’s presented features without naming Ted Lasso or AFC Richmond. Therefore, describe the collaboration as a FIFA 23 feature unless a later EA announcement for a specific release says otherwise.
If you are deciding whether to buy a newer EA SPORTS FC title, check that title’s official feature list and platform-specific product page rather than relying on FIFA 23 tutorials, videos or menu screenshots.

Can Ted Lasso manage AFC Richmond?
EA confirms two separate choices: select Ted Lasso as a playable manager, or manage AFC Richmond after swapping the club into a league. The instructions do not state that selecting Ted automatically performs the Richmond club swap, so configure both choices if that is your intended save.
Is AFC Richmond available in Kick-Off and online modes?
