To use Streamlabs Cloudbot moderation tools, enable Cloudbot in your Streamlabs dashboard, give it moderator permission in your channel, then open Mod Tools and choose a protection preset or configure filters individually. Start with rules that fit your chat; no single threshold is established as right for every channel.
Enable Cloudbot and grant moderator access
- Sign in at Streamlabs.com, open Cloudbot from the left navigation, and enable it. Streamlabs’ setup guide documents this workflow.
- Grant Streamlabs moderator permissions on the platform where you want it to moderate. For Twitch and Kick, open your channel’s chat, enter
/mod Streamlabs, and submit the command. - For YouTube, open YouTube Studio, go to Settings > Community, and add Streamlabs as a moderator.
Cloudbot needs these permissions to act on chat messages. The setup guide lists permission steps for Twitch, Kick, and YouTube; it does not establish that every tool behaves identically across all platforms.
Choose a protection level or set filters individually
Open Cloudbot’s Mod Tools. Choose a preset for a faster setup, or leave the preset off and turn on individual protections. The levels are Off, Minimum, Medium, and Maximum. Streamlabs describes Off as unrestricted, Minimum as light, Medium as balanced and recommended for most streams, and Maximum as stronger protection for high-traffic chats or communities with many visitors. That recommendation is Streamlabs’ guidance, not a guarantee of performance.
Use the plus control beside a tool to adjust its settings. The question-mark control beside a protection level describes that preset’s settings. A preset is convenient, but individual settings let you address a particular problem without applying stricter limits everywhere.

What each Mod Tool filters

Streamlabs’ Mod Tools guide, last updated July 7, 2026, describes these controls. It does not publish accuracy rates or a universal threshold for any community.
Set thresholds, exemptions, and punishments
Caps, Symbols, Emote, and Paragraph Protection share several controls. Thresholds determine how much of the flagged behavior is allowed; exemptions and punishments determine who is affected and what happens when a message crosses the limit.

- Auto Permit: exempt selected roles, such as subscribers or regulars, from a protection.
- Minimum and maximum amounts: set the quantity range used by the filter. For caps, for example, these values govern how many capital letters can appear before the rule applies.
- Maximum percent: limit the share of a message made up of the flagged content. A caps rule can trigger when a message exceeds the maximum amount, or when it passes the minimum and its capital letters exceed the allowed percentage.
- Punishment: choose the action Cloudbot takes. You can also choose whether it posts a punishment message and customize that response.
- Maximum message length: Paragraph Protection has this additional control.
Streamlabs illustrates Caps Protection with a minimum amount of 5, maximum amount of 10, and maximum percent of 45%. Those are example settings in its guide, not measured or universal recommendations. Tune thresholds to your channel rules, then observe how they affect ordinary conversation and adjust if they are too restrictive or too permissive.
Choose a proportionate action for blocked words
For Word Protection, Streamlabs documents purge, timeout, and ban options for blacklist entries. Match the response to the severity and clarity of the rule: removing a message, temporarily restricting a viewer, and banning a viewer have different consequences. The available controls do not dictate your channel’s moderation policy.

Configure links and grant individual permission
Link Protection offers three ways to manage link access:
- Whitelist sites whose links you want to allow.
- Blacklist sites whose links should never be allowed.
- Permit a viewer temporarily: a moderator can enter
!permit <username>. Set Permit Duration to control how long the authorization lasts.
Role-based Auto Permit is another option for exempting selected roles. A site list is suited to consistent channel-wide rules; individual permits are useful when a specific viewer needs temporary permission.

Check the setup and adjust it without overblocking
- Confirm Cloudbot is enabled and has moderator access on the intended platform.
- In Mod Tools, verify that the preset or individual filters you intend to use are enabled.
- Review each filter’s thresholds, exemptions, punishment, and response-message settings before relying on it.
- For link rules, check the allowed and blocked sites, role exemptions, and permit duration.
- Watch how the rules affect your actual chat and refine settings to fit your channel’s norms.
The official guides document features and example settings, not false-positive rates or guaranteed prevention. Keep your channel rules clear and review the effect of a filter before making it more restrictive.
