Samsung ovens do not all use steam the same way: some offer Steam Cook, while Steam Clean is a separate cycle for loosening oven residue. Before adding water or choosing a setting, find your oven’s model number and follow its matching manual. The right water location, controls, and maintenance steps depend on the model.
First, identify what your oven’s steam feature does
Samsung describes Steam Cook as a cooking feature on some wall ovens: moisture from a filled steam tray is added while food bakes, broils, or roasts. It is not available on every Samsung oven. Check your model’s feature list and manual before looking for a steam setting.

Steam Clean is different. It uses water and heat to loosen residue inside the oven; it is a cleaning cycle, not a way to cook food. Do not substitute one function’s instructions for the other.
Find the full model number on the oven or its documentation, then open the matching manual through Samsung support. Use that manual for the exact control path, water amount and location, approved accessories, and care instructions. A Samsung-hosted manual for certain Dacor ovens, for example, describes Steam Bake and Steam Roast with Low, Medium, and High steam levels and requires filling the reservoir before cooking. Those controls apply to the documented ovens, not to Samsung ovens generally.

How to use Steam Cook
If your model has Steam Cook, follow its manual’s instructions for preparing the steam tray or reservoir and selecting a cooking mode. Steam may be combined with baking, broiling, or roasting, but the available modes and settings vary by model. Do not infer a water quantity or menu sequence from another oven’s instructions.
How to run Steam Clean
Samsung’s general US guidance describes the following preparation and cleanup. Your manual takes precedence, particularly if your oven uses a reservoir or labels the cycle differently.

- Empty the oven. Remove racks and accessories, including a divider if your model has one.
- Add tap water to the steam-clean tray. If the oven has no tray, Samsung’s general guidance says to put the water on the oven bottom. On reservoir-equipped models, the cleaning cycle may be called Hybrid Clean; add water to the reservoir instead. Check the manual for the quantity and exact location.
- Close the door, select Steam Clean, and start the cycle using your model’s controls.
- When the cycle ends, allow the oven to cool. Water may remain inside and the oven will be hot. Once cool, wipe away the water with a sponge or soft, dry cloth.
Samsung characterizes Steam Clean as less intensive than Self Clean. For heavy residue, its support guidance says detergent may be worked into the residue before running the cycle. Follow the model’s instructions; Steam Clean and Self Clean are different cycles, and one may not be appropriate for every mess.

Some reservoir-equipped ovens include separate maintenance functions. Samsung describes Drain as moving water from the steam system into the reservoir, and Descale as removing mineral buildup. Descale requires a descaling agent. Use the procedure and product compatibility specified in your exact manual, and follow any prompts on the oven; the steps are model-specific.

- Use the model’s manual for water amounts, controls, accessories, and maintenance.
- After Steam Clean, wait for the oven to cool before wiping out remaining water.
