On the vivo X Fold6, choose Origin Workbench when one primary app should remain visible while you move between supporting tasks. Choose Multi-Split Screen when several compatible apps need to stay on screen together. vivo documents up to four side-by-side apps in Multi-Split Screen, while Origin Workbench keeps one main task available with up to four supporting tasks.
The X Fold6 product page does not document a separate, universal “floating app window” command. The model-specific instructions below cover the documented Workbench and Multi-Split Screen features; for any small-window or floating-window option shown on your phone, use the Help text and menu labels in your installed software version.

Which multitasking mode should you use?
The two modes solve different problems. Origin Workbench is a task-switching workspace: one main activity stays central while supporting activities remain available for quick changes. Multi-Split Screen is a simultaneous-view layout: several compatible apps remain visible and usable at the same time.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors| What you need to do | Use this mode | What vivo documents |
|---|---|---|
| Keep one primary task open while checking or switching among other tasks | Origin Workbench | One main task plus four supporting tasks, with switching among the supporting tasks. |
| Read, enter information or monitor several apps without leaving the layout | Multi-Split Screen | Up to four apps side by side. |
These capacities are feature specifications from vivo’s official X Fold6 product page; the page does not state a publication year for the figures. In practice, the number of apps you can use depends on whether each app supports split screen and on the behavior of your installed firmware.

Before you start
- Keep the phone on its current system software and pay attention to the exact labels shown under Settings. Menu names can differ by software version or region.
- For Multi-Split Screen, only apps that support split screen can be selected. vivo says the system initially chooses the four highest-priority active apps that support split screen; it does not claim that every installed app is compatible.
- Have the apps you want to use open or recently active before entering Multi-Split Screen. This gives the system eligible active apps to evaluate.
- If a gesture does nothing, check that the relevant toggle is enabled and try the gesture deliberately from the edge or with all three or four fingers clearly touching the display.
Enable and launch Origin Workbench
The bottom-right inward swipe is a toggle-controlled gesture. Enable it once before trying to launch the workspace.
- Open Settings.
- Tap Foldable Devices.
- Open Origin Workbench.
- Turn on the gesture option shown there. The official instructions identify the launch action as swiping inward from the bottom-right corner.
- Return to the task you want to keep primary, then swipe inward from the bottom-right corner to open Workbench.
When Workbench opens, treat the main task as the activity that must remain readily available. Supporting tasks are there for quick switching rather than requiring every app to remain permanently visible. This arrangement is useful when you are writing in one app and repeatedly checking a browser, messages or a reference document.
Switch among supporting tasks
Origin Workbench is designed around one main task and as many as four supporting tasks. The supporting-task area lets you move between those activities without rebuilding the entire setup each time. If an activity is not available as a supporting task, it may not be active or may not be eligible for the relevant multitasking mode.
Enter Multi-Split Screen
There are two documented routes from Origin Workbench into Multi-Split Screen.
From Origin Workbench
- Open Origin Workbench using the enabled bottom-right inward swipe.
- Either fold the phone slightly or swipe upward with three fingers.
- When Multi-Split Screen appears, let the phone prepare the eligible apps. vivo says it first selects the four highest-priority active apps that support split screen.
The slight fold and three-finger swipe are alternative entry actions. If one is awkward in your current grip, use the other rather than repeatedly forcing the same gesture.
Start from the Home screen
- Go to the Home screen.
- Slightly fold the device or swipe up with three fingers.
- Use the resulting Multi-Split Screen flow to select multiple apps for quick launch.
- Confirm the selected apps and work in the resulting side-by-side layout.
The Home-screen flow is the practical choice when you already know the group of apps you want to launch together. The official page describes selecting multiple apps after either supported gesture, but it does not publish a complete list of compatible apps or a fixed app limit beyond the stated maximum of four side-by-side apps.
Understand app compatibility and the four-app limit
“Up to four apps side by side” is not the same as four arbitrary apps. Multi-Split Screen depends on split-screen support supplied by each app. When the mode is entered, vivo says the system initially selects the four highest-priority active apps that support split screen. An app can therefore be missing because it does not support the mode, is not active, or is not among the apps the system prioritizes.

The product page does not enumerate supported apps, guarantee that every app can be resized, or describe all regional firmware differences. If your phone shows a different selection screen, an app is unavailable, or a label has moved, use the on-device Help content for the software build installed on your X Fold6 rather than assuming a menu from another vivo model applies.
Resize the split-screen windows
vivo describes progressive resizing within a range, with the layout adapting in real time as the windows change size. This lets you give more space to the app that needs detailed input and less to an app that is only being monitored.
- Open a Multi-Split Screen layout.
- Locate the divider or boundary between the app windows.
- Drag the boundary toward the app that needs more room. The other window or windows adjust as the layout responds.
- Stop when the proportions suit the task. The available range is determined by the layout and app behavior; vivo does not publish a universal pixel or percentage range.
Use the four-finger shortcut
The product page also describes pinching or spreading with four fingers as a quick resizing gesture. Place four fingers on the display and pinch to reduce or spread to enlarge the relevant window arrangement. Use a light, deliberate movement; if the gesture is interpreted as ordinary touch input, return to the divider method.
Resizing is not a promise that every app will accept every proportion. An app can impose its own minimum usable size, and an app that does not support split screen will not become compatible merely because another window is resized.
Save a multitasking combination for later
If you repeatedly use the same set of tasks, save the arrangement instead of recreating it each time.
Save to the Home screen
- Build the Workbench combination you want to repeat.
- Use the combination-saving control provided in Workbench to save it.
- Choose the option to place the saved combination on the Home screen when offered.
- Later, tap that Home-screen icon to reopen the preferred layout.
This is most useful for repeatable routines such as a primary work app with the same reference and communication tools. The exact icon or confirmation wording can vary with software version, so follow the label displayed by your phone.
Use the Combination Library
The taskbar includes a Combination Library for recent multitasking combinations. vivo states that the library can hold up to 20 combinations. Treat that as a maximum capacity, not a guarantee that every older arrangement will remain indefinitely: the page describes the library as storing recent combinations. If a frequently used setup matters, also keep its Home-screen shortcut.

What “floating windows” means on the X Fold6
A floating window normally means an app appears in a movable small window over another app, rather than occupying a fixed pane in a split layout. The official X Fold6 product page documents Origin Workbench, Multi-Split Screen, resizing and saved combinations, but it does not specify a generic floating-app-window gesture or a model-specific settings path for one.

Its instructions are therefore not presented here as model-specific guidance.
How to check your own software safely
- Open Settings and use its search field for terms such as floating window, small window, split screen or multitasking.
- Open the matching Help entry or settings page and read the device-specific description before enabling a gesture.
- Check the app’s recent-apps card for an action menu. If no floating or small-window command is shown, use Origin Workbench or Multi-Split Screen instead of assuming the app supports a hidden shortcut.
- When your labels differ from the steps in this guide, follow the current on-device wording for your installed software version.
Practical ways to choose a layout
Writing while checking references
Use Origin Workbench when your writing app is the main task and you only need to switch briefly to several references. This keeps the writing activity central while the supporting tasks remain available.
Copying information between apps
Use Multi-Split Screen when two or more compatible apps must remain visible while you enter or compare information. Give the app receiving the most input the largest portion of the layout, then resize the other panes with the divider or four-finger gesture.
Monitoring several activities
Use a four-app layout only when each app remains useful at a small size. If the text or controls become difficult to use, reduce the number of panes and reserve the largest area for the task that requires precision.

Build a reliable multitasking routine
Start by deciding whether you need visibility or rapid switching. If the primary app must stay in view while you consult several others, open that primary app first and use Origin Workbench. If you need to compare or enter information in several apps at once, prepare those apps as active tasks and enter Multi-Split Screen.

Opening or revisiting an app before the selection step can help it qualify as an active candidate, but it does not override compatibility. The system still filters for apps that support split screen and prioritizes up to four eligible active apps. If the wrong group appears, leave the selection flow, activate the apps you actually need, and try again.
After the layout opens, resize for the job rather than trying to give every pane equal space. A communication or monitoring app may remain useful in a narrow area, while a document or data-entry app needs more room. The divider gives direct control; the four-finger pinch or spread is a quicker alternative when the layout responds to it.

Once a routine works, save it. A Home-screen combination is easier to reach for a daily workflow, while the taskbar’s Combination Library is useful for returning to recent setups. Because vivo describes the library in terms of recent combinations and sets its capacity at up to 20, keep a Home-screen shortcut for anything you cannot afford to lose.
How to tell which mode is active
Origin Workbench is organized around a main task and supporting tasks that you switch between. It is therefore the better fit when one activity remains the anchor. Multi-Split Screen presents multiple app panes together and lets you adjust their relative sizes. If you find yourself repeatedly leaving one app to inspect another, Workbench may be simpler; if you need both visible while entering or comparing content, Multi-Split Screen is the more direct choice.
Neither description establishes a generic movable overlay. A pane in Multi-Split Screen is part of the active layout, not proof that the phone has enabled a floating-window mode. Likewise, a saved combination is a shortcut to a multitasking arrangement, not an independent floating app.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Troubleshooting gestures and layouts
| Symptom | Likely explanation | What to try |
|---|---|---|
| Bottom-right swipe does nothing | The Origin Workbench gesture toggle is off, or the swipe did not start at the bottom-right edge. | Return to Settings > Foldable Devices > Origin Workbench, enable the gesture, then swipe inward from the corner. |
| Three-finger swipe does not enter Multi-Split Screen | The fingers were not registered together, or the phone is not currently in the documented transition state. | Try the gesture again with three fingers moving upward together. From Workbench, use the slight-fold method as the alternative. |
| An app is missing from the split-screen selection | The app may not support split screen, may not be active, or may not be one of the system’s four highest-priority eligible apps. | Open or activate the app first, then re-enter the selection flow. If it still does not appear, check the app and phone Help pages; do not assume all apps are supported. |
| A pane will not become as large or small as expected | The layout or app may impose a minimum usable size. | Drag the divider gradually, try the four-finger pinch or spread, and accept the range allowed by that app and layout. |
| A saved combination is not where expected | Home-screen shortcuts and recent entries in the Combination Library are separate surfaces. | Look for the saved icon on the Home screen and check the taskbar’s Combination Library. The library holds up to 20 recent combinations according to vivo. |
| A guide mentions a floating-window menu that your phone lacks | The guide may describe another model or software release. | Use the current X Fold6 Help and Settings search. The official X Fold6 page does not document a universal floating-window workflow. |
Documented limits to keep in mind
- Multi-Split Screen supports up to four side-by-side apps as a vendor-stated capability, subject to app compatibility.
- Origin Workbench is described as one main task with four supporting tasks available for switching.
- Resizing is described as progressive and real time, but no universal dimensions are specified.
- The Combination Library is described as holding up to 20 combinations; the page does not specify retention rules beyond calling them recent combinations.
- No separate, generic floating-window gesture or settings path is established for the X Fold6 product page.
For the manufacturer’s current feature descriptions, see the official vivo X Fold6 Europe product page. If your region or software build presents different labels, the on-device Help content is the authoritative guide for that installation.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I place any four apps beside one another?
No. vivo’s “up to four apps side by side” figure applies to apps that support split screen. The system initially selects the four highest-priority active apps that are eligible, so an unsupported or inactive app may not appear.
