Use ScreenshotAPI.net’s documented v3 endpoint with Python’s requests library, pass your API token and target page as query parameters, check for HTTP errors, then save the response’s raw bytes. Saving response.content in binary mode is the key to getting a usable image file.
Make a screenshot request with Python
Install the dependency if needed:

Set your ScreenshotAPI.net token in an environment variable named SCREENSHOTAPI_TOKEN, then save this as capture.py:

The v3 documentation uses a GET request with a token and target url query parameter. requests.get(..., params=params) encodes those values, including punctuation in a nested page URL. The environment-variable arrangement is a code example for avoiding a secret embedded in the script, not a provider-prescribed SDK convention. The 60-second timeout is an example client-side limit, not a stated ScreenshotAPI.net service timeout; tune it to your application’s latency needs and current render limits.

Why save response bytes
The documented output here is an image. Write response.content to a binary file, using Path.write_bytes() or open(..., "wb"). Do not use response.text for an image: decoding binary data as text can corrupt it. The provider’s requests example prints response text, but that is not a binary-safe image-saving workflow.
response.raise_for_status() stops the script on an unsuccessful HTTP status before it writes a file. A successful HTTP response still does not guarantee that the rendered page is the content you intended: a login, denial, or error page can itself be captured as an image.

Get and protect your API token
Obtain the token through ScreenshotAPI.net’s account and dashboard flow, then configure it locally rather than placing it in source code, a shared notebook, or a client-side page. For example, set SCREENSHOTAPI_TOKEN in your shell or development environment before running the script. The reviewed provider help says tokens can be rolled in the dashboard, revoking the prior token, and that domain restriction is not currently available; verify those controls in your account because provider policies can change.
Choose capture parameters for the page
The example requests an image and selects PNG with output and file_type. Add options only when the page or intended use calls for them, and confirm their current names and limits in the provider’s rendering documentation and help materials.

- Viewport or full page: Set the viewport dimensions for a specific screen size, or use the documented full-page option when you need the page beyond the initial viewport. A very long page may produce a correspondingly tall image.
- Image output and format: Keep image output selected and choose a supported file type. Match the output filename extension to the requested format.
- Authenticated pages: Authentication varies by target site. The help materials describe authenticated capture options, but no single cookie or header method is guaranteed to work for every site. Check the target’s login requirements and the provider’s current instructions.
- Page styling and unwanted elements: The render documentation describes CSS injection; help materials discuss banner and ad controls. Verify exact option spelling and behavior for the target page before relying on them.
Troubleshoot common problems
The file is not a valid image
Confirm that the request asks for image output and that the HTTP status is successful. Save response.content as bytes; do not save decoded response.text. Also check that the extension matches the requested file_type.
The image shows a login, denial, or error page
The capture may have rendered the target’s current access state rather than the content you expected. Check whether the target URL requires authentication and inspect the target page’s access requirements. ScreenshotAPI.net notes that authentication varies by site, so do not assume one credential or cookie configuration works universally.

A URL with query parameters fails
Pass the page address as the value of url in the params dictionary. Avoid manually concatenating the request URL, which can mishandle reserved characters in the target URL.
The capture is cropped or too small
Review the viewport dimensions and whether full-page capture is enabled. Set dimensions for the intended display or device; use full-page capture when content below the first viewport must appear.

A banner or other element is in the way
Check the current banner/ad controls or use documented CSS injection to adjust the rendered page. Confirm the specific option and its effect on the target rather than assuming a generic selector or setting will work everywhere.
