For a scheduled sleep period with Samsung’s dedicated Sleep mode, set a sleep and wake-up schedule instead.
What Galaxy Routines do
Samsung describes Galaxy Routines as a way to automate phone behavior by running actions when specified conditions are met. A routine has two parts: If defines when it runs, and Then defines what the phone does. You can use that structure for a morning schedule, a bedtime change, or another condition offered on your device.
The exact conditions, actions and screens vary by Galaxy model and software or app version. Treat the steps below as Samsung’s current guidance, not a guarantee that every option appears on every phone. Samsung’s Modes and Routines guide notes that availability can vary.
Set up a morning or bedtime routine
- Open the feature. Go to Settings > Modes and Routines. If you do not see it in Settings, Samsung says you may be able to add a Modes and Routines icon to the Apps screen through the feature’s settings; this option may not be available on every device.
- Start a routine. Tap the Routines tab, then tap the add (+) control.
- Choose the trigger. Under If, select a condition shown on your phone. For a routine intended to run at a particular time, choose a time-based schedule if that option is available and set the time and any other offered details.
- Choose what happens. Under Then, add the actions you want and configure their available options. Samsung’s examples include muting notification sounds, turning on Wi-Fi and lowering screen brightness at bedtime; your device may offer a different set of actions.
- Save and identify it. Save the routine. If prompted, give it a name and choose an icon and color. Check the Routines tab to confirm it appears in the list.
Example settings to consider
Use these as starting points, not a guaranteed list of controls. Add only actions that suit your schedule and that your phone actually offers.

- Morning: Choose a time-based trigger and add a useful action, such as turning on Wi-Fi, if it is available. You can also select another condition or action visible in your routine editor.
- Bedtime: A custom routine can lower screen brightness or mute notification sounds at a selected time if those actions are available. For a scheduled sleep period with Sleep mode’s behavior, use the separate Sleep schedule described below.
Choose between a custom routine and Sleep mode
A custom routine is for a condition and actions you select. Sleep mode is Samsung’s dedicated option for setting usual sleep and wake-up times. Choose based on whether you want particular phone actions or want to schedule Sleep mode.

To set the schedule, open Modes and Routines > Sleep and configure the sleep and wake-up times shown there. Samsung notes that Sleep mode was previously called Bedtime mode or Wind Down. See Samsung’s Digital Wellbeing instructions for the sleep schedule steps.

Check whether a routine is running
Review the Routines tab to see your saved routines. Samsung UK also describes checking for a routine notification in the Quick panel and looking for an active mode, such as Sleep mode, in the lock-screen Now bar. These indicators can vary with the device and software version. Samsung UK’s Routines guide covers these checks and notes that Android 14 and Android 13 place features previously found in Bixby Routines under Settings > Modes and Routines, while Android 12 and Android 11 use the Bixby Routines app.

Check whether a routine or mode is active, then review the routine’s If conditions and Then actions. A saved routine may account for an app or feature starting or becoming restricted when its conditions are met. If your menus differ from these paths, Samsung warns that names, layouts and availability can vary by device model and software or app version; use the options shown on your phone rather than assuming every Galaxy has the same controls.
