Open a photo, choose the effect that matches the visible problem, adjust its intensity when a control is available, compare the result with the original, and save only when the change looks better. The current Samsung US requirement is Android 14 with One UI 6.0 or later, although Galaxy Store availability can vary by model and region.
What Galaxy Enhance-X does
Enhance-X is designed for corrective edits rather than a full layer-based photography workflow. Its tools can brighten a dark frame, reduce blur, sharpen soft detail, correct display patterns, remove some shadows or reflections, restore older images, and enlarge small files. The app does not apply one universal recipe to every photograph: each effect targets a different visual problem, and the available controls depend on the selected tool and the image.

Samsung describes Magic as a one-tap general enhancement for noise, blur, and low detail. More specific effects include HDR, Brighten, Remove blur, and Sharpen, with further tools available from the additional-effects menu. Some effects process automatically, some expose an intensity slider, and some appear or activate only when Enhance-X detects a potentially suitable correction.
Check compatibility before you start
Samsung US support currently states that Galaxy Enhance-X is supported on Galaxy phones running Android 14 and One UI 6.0 or later, and that the app is distributed through Galaxy Store. That is the current baseline stated by Samsung, not a promise that every model in every country can install it. Open Galaxy Store on the specific phone you intend to use and search for “Galaxy Enhance-X”; the store listing and install button are the practical availability check for your model and region.

Samsung’s June 20, 2023 Global Newsroom announcement listed launch-era families such as Galaxy S20 through S23, Note20, Z Fold2 through Fold4, and Z Flip LTE/5G through Flip4 on One UI 5.1 or later. That list describes the 2023 rollout and should not be treated as today’s complete compatibility matrix. A newer phone may meet the current software requirement, while an older phone may be excluded by model, region, or store policy even after an update.
Install Enhance-X and open a photo
- Open Galaxy Store on your compatible Galaxy phone.
- Search for Galaxy Enhance-X, confirm that the publisher and app name match Samsung’s listing, and tap Install or Update.
- Launch Enhance-X. If Android requests access to photos and videos, grant the permission needed to select and save images. The exact permission wording can differ by One UI version.
- Tap the image-selection control in the app and choose the picture you want to improve. If the app opens with a different layout, look for the gallery or photo-picker button; Samsung notes that labels and placement can vary by device and software version.
Work from a copy when the original is important. Enhance-X’s edits are intended to produce a saved result, but keeping the untouched file lets you retry with a lighter setting or a different effect without losing the starting image.
Choose the right effect for the visible problem
Start by identifying what is wrong with the picture, not by trying every tool in sequence. The table below matches Samsung’s documented effects to common symptoms and explains what to watch for.
Recommended Free Tools
| Visible problem | First effect to try | How it behaves | Important check |
|---|---|---|---|
| Several issues at once, such as noise, mild blur, and low detail | Magic | One-tap automatic enhancement | Inspect faces, fine textures, and dark areas for artificial detail |
| Overall flat contrast or a scene that would benefit from a high-dynamic-range treatment | HDR | Samsung lists it as a standard effect; controls depend on the version and image | Make sure highlights do not become harsh and shadows do not look overprocessed |
| Underexposed or generally dark image | Brighten | May process automatically or provide an intensity control | Check whether bright areas lose texture after lifting the shadows |
| Motion softness or slight focus softness | Remove blur | Targeted correction; availability can depend on detection | It cannot recreate detail that was never captured; inspect edges at full size |
| Soft edges that need more apparent definition | Sharpen | Intensity may be adjustable | Samsung warns that excessive sharpening can look unnatural |
| Wavy or repeating patterns in a photo of a screen | Fix Moiré | Specialized correction for laptop, TV, and monitor displays | Compare text and fine lines before saving; some pattern removal can soften them |
| Unwanted dark silhouettes or areas of shade | Remove Shadows | Available where supported and detected | Check that the corrected area still matches the scene’s natural lighting |
| Glare or a reflected person/light source | Remove Reflection | Available where supported and detected | Reflection removal can alter objects behind the glass; inspect the reconstructed area |
| Curved lines or stretched edges caused by the lens | Fix Lens Distortion | Geometry correction | Look at the frame borders after correction to ensure they remain straight |
| Faded, damaged, or very old photograph | Old Photo | Restoration-oriented processing | Review faces and printed texture closely; restoration is an approximation, not a historical scan |
| Small compressed file under 1 megapixel | Increase resolution | Samsung claimed “up to four times for images under 1 MP” in 2023 | That is a published capability claim, not an independently measured guarantee for every image |
| Portrait subject or facial appearance | Portrait or Face tools | Controls and availability vary | Use a conservative setting so skin and facial features remain recognizable |
Use the basic Enhance-X workflow
1. Apply a broad enhancement with Magic
Magic is the sensible first trial when the picture has several mild defects and you do not know which correction matters most. Select Magic from the effect list and let the app process the image. Samsung describes it as a one-tap enhancement for noise, blur, and low detail. Because it is broad, it may change more of the image than a narrowly targeted tool. Check the before-and-after view before accepting it, especially around hair, foliage, text, and faces.

2. Correct brightness with Brighten
For a dark image, select Brighten. If a slider appears, move it gradually rather than going straight to the maximum. Raising exposure can reveal shadow detail, but it can also make noise more visible and flatten the contrast that gives a scene depth. Stop when the subject is readable while bright windows, lamps, clouds, or skin highlights still retain texture.
3. Address softness with Remove blur or Sharpen
Use Remove blur when the image has general softness that may be correctable, such as slight movement or focus error. Use Sharpen when the edges are present but lack definition. These are not interchangeable in every case: blur reduction attempts a more complex correction, while sharpening emphasizes existing edges. If both are available, try one at a time and compare each result with the original. Samsung specifically cautions that too much sharpening can make an image look unnatural, with halos or brittle-looking detail.
4. Open the further-effects menu for specialized problems
When the standard effects do not match the problem, open the menu for additional effects. Choose Fix Moiré for repeating waves or colored interference caused by photographing a laptop, television, or monitor. Choose Remove Shadows for unwanted silhouettes or dark areas, and Remove Reflection for glare or reflected objects when those options are available on your device. Fix Lens Distortion addresses shape changes from the lens, while Old Photo is intended for aging or damaged pictures. Portrait and Face tools are available for some subjects, but their controls can differ by device and software release.

Enhance-X does not expose the same controls for every effect. A tool may run automatically, show a slider, or remain unavailable until the app detects an image it can process. When an intensity slider is present:

- Start near the middle or the low end and increase it in small steps.
- Inspect the subject at 100 percent or the closest full-size view available.
- Check smooth areas such as skies and skin for noise, banding, or waxy texture.
- Check high-contrast edges for halos, ringing, and oversharpening.
- For faces and text, prefer a result that preserves identity and legibility over one that looks more dramatic in a thumbnail.
A stronger setting is not automatically a better setting. The goal is to remove the visible defect while changing as little unrelated content as possible. If a specialized effect produces a strange reconstruction, undo it or return to the original and try a milder tool instead.
Compare the edit with the original
Before saving, use Enhance-X’s before-and-after divider. Drag the divider across important regions rather than judging only the full-frame preview. Compare the original and edited versions in these areas:
- The main subject’s eyes, hair, skin, and clothing texture.
- Fine lines such as printed text, branches, wires, and building edges.
- Shadow regions where noise or invented detail may appear.
- Bright regions where a brighten or HDR treatment may clip highlights.
- Frame edges after lens or perspective-related correction.
If the edited side looks more conspicuous than the original, reduce the intensity or choose a narrower correction. The divider is also useful for detecting changes that are easy to miss when viewing only the processed result.

Samsung’s interface can move labels and controls between device and software versions, so the exact button position may not match screenshots from another phone. The sequence remains the same: select, apply, adjust when offered, compare, and save.

How much can Increase resolution improve a small image?
Samsung’s June 20, 2023 Global Newsroom description says Enhance-X can increase resolution “up to four times for images under 1 MP”. The statement is a capability claim from Samsung, not a guaranteed output quality for every file. Enlarging the pixel dimensions cannot recover detail that was never recorded. Results depend on the source image, compression, subject, and the structures the software can infer.
Use the before-and-after divider and inspect the enlarged result at its intended viewing size. A small image may become more usable for a message or a modest print, while heavy compression, severe blur, or tiny unreadable text may remain visibly limited. Do not treat the four-times figure as a promise that a low-resolution file will become equivalent to a sharp high-resolution original.

The app is missing from Galaxy Store
- Confirm that the phone is running Android 14 and One UI 6.0 or later, the current Samsung US support baseline.
- Check for pending system and Galaxy Store updates, then search again using the full app name.
- Availability can vary by model and region; the store listing on the individual phone is more reliable than an old launch-era compatibility list.
An effect is not shown or cannot be selected
Some effects are conditional. Samsung states that certain controls may appear only when Enhance-X detects a possible improvement. Try a different image that clearly exhibits the target problem, and check the further-effects menu. A missing effect does not necessarily indicate an installation failure.
The result looks artificial
Reduce the slider setting if one is available, or return to the original and use a more specific effect. Excessive sharpening is a known risk; halos around edges and brittle texture are signs to back off. Brighten, HDR, shadow removal, and restoration can also produce unnatural tonal transitions when pushed too far.
Best Value
- Please note, this device does not support E-SIM; This 4G model is compatible with all GSM networks worldwide outside of the U.S. In the US, ONLY compatible with T-Mobile and their MVNO's (Metro and Standup). It will NOT work with other CDMA carriers, and it is also not compatible with their MVNO (Visible, Xfinity Mobile, US Mobile, Cricket Wireless, etc).
- Compatibility with certain third-party devices and accessibility accessories, including some hearing aids, may vary depending on manufacturer support, Bluetooth protocols, software compatibility, and regional firmware limitations. For additional hearing aid compatibility information, please refer to Samsung’s official support documentation.

The photo is still blurry
Remove blur and Sharpen can improve some soft images, but neither can reliably recreate detail that was completely lost through severe motion, missed focus, or extreme compression. Try the less aggressive setting, compare at full size, and keep the original if the correction introduces artifacts.
The saved file is not what you expected
Open the result in Gallery and check its orientation, crop, and visible detail. If the file is unsuitable, reopen the untouched original and repeat the edit with a different effect or lower intensity. Keeping a separate original prevents an unsuccessful pass from becoming your only copy.
Enhance-X versus Galaxy AI editing in Gallery
Enhance-X and Samsung’s Galaxy AI editing tools in Gallery are separate feature sets. Do not apply the requirements for one to the other. Samsung US support says that selected Gallery AI tools require Android 14 with One UI 6.1 or higher, plus a Samsung account and an internet connection for those AI features. The same support information says Generative Edit resizes output up to 12 MP and that AI-generated images display a Galaxy AI watermark.
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
Those account, network, output-size, and watermark conditions belong to the relevant Gallery AI tools; they should not be presented as universal requirements for every Enhance-X effect. Enhance-X’s current phone baseline is Android 14 with One UI 6.0 or later, subject to model and regional availability. If you are choosing an editor, first decide whether you need Enhance-X’s corrective effects or a separate Gallery AI feature, then check the requirements for that specific feature.
A practical decision sequence
- Look at the defect: decide whether the main issue is darkness, softness, screen moiré, reflection, shadow, lens shape, age, or low resolution.
- Try the narrowest matching effect: use Brighten for darkness, Remove blur or Sharpen for softness, Fix Moiré for screen patterns, and the corresponding specialized tool for other defects.
- Use Magic for mixed mild problems: choose it when noise, blur, and low detail occur together and a broad automatic pass is acceptable.
- Adjust conservatively: move a slider in small increments when the selected effect provides one.
- Inspect the divider: compare faces, edges, text, highlights, and shadows with the untouched image.
- Save only the improvement: keep the original and save the edited version after confirming that the correction helps more than it harms.
Best practices for consistent results
- Use the highest-quality original available rather than a screenshot or repeatedly compressed copy.
- Fix the dominant problem first; stacking broad effects can make artifacts harder to diagnose.
- Judge portraits at natural size as well as close up, because skin smoothing and facial reconstruction can look acceptable when zoomed out but unnatural when inspected.
- For photographed displays, correct moiré before judging sharpness. A repeating screen pattern can make an image appear blurrier than it really is.
- For old photographs, compare faces and printed details carefully. Restoration can improve readability while still changing small historical features.
- Use a saved copy for sharing and retain the untouched source for archival or future editing.
What Enhance-X cannot guarantee
Enhance-X is an automated image-enhancement tool, not a way to recover every missing pixel or reconstruct a scene with certainty. Effects can be conditional, controls can vary by phone and software version, and Samsung’s “up to four times” resolution figure is not a universal quality guarantee. The reliable way to decide whether an edit is worthwhile is to compare it directly with the original and reject any result that introduces more visible artifacts than improvement.
