The Galaxy Tab S10 FE can run Samsung DeX directly on its own screen, giving you a desktop-style workspace without a monitor. Swipe down from the top-right with two fingers, tap Samsung DeX, and follow the first-use prompts. You can operate it with touch or an S Pen, or add a USB/Bluetooth keyboard, mouse, or compatible keyboard cover. There is one important model-specific limit: Samsung says the Tab S10 FE does not support HDMI output or Wireless DeX to a TV or monitor, so this guide focuses on using DeX on the tablet itself.
What Samsung DeX does on the Galaxy Tab S10 FE
DeX changes the tablet’s standard Android interface into a desktop-like workspace. Instead of treating every app as a full-screen phone-style page, you can arrange supported apps in movable, resizable windows and use the tablet as a self-contained work surface. Samsung describes this as standalone DeX: the tablet screen itself is the display, so no monitor or television is required.

That makes the Tab S10 FE useful for a lightweight laptop-style setup when you are travelling, studying, handling documents, messaging, or switching between several apps. DeX is still Android underneath, however. An app may have no DeX layout, may refuse to run in DeX, or may require a separate license. A desktop appearance does not guarantee that every app behaves like its Windows or macOS equivalent.

Can I use DeX without a monitor?
Yes. Standalone DeX is designed to run directly on the Galaxy Tab S10 FE’s built-in display. You do not need an HDMI cable, USB-C-to-HDMI adapter, wireless display receiver, or separate monitor for the basic DeX experience.

The distinction matters because the Tab S10 FE has a specific external-display restriction. Samsung’s US compatibility guidance says this model is not compatible with HDMI output or Wireless DeX to a TV or monitor. Those are not merely optional features that require the right adapter; Samsung excludes the Tab S10 FE from those DeX output paths. Plan around the tablet screen rather than buying video-output accessories.
How do I turn on Samsung DeX on my Tab S10 FE?
- From the tablet’s regular interface, swipe down from the top-right edge with two fingers to open Quick Settings.
- Find and tap Samsung DeX.
- If this is the first time you have used DeX, read and complete the prompts that appear.
- Wait for the tablet to switch to the DeX workspace. Your apps and controls will now use the desktop-style layout.
The DeX tile may be on another page of Quick Settings if you have customized the panel. Swipe across the available tiles or edit the Quick Settings arrangement to locate it. The exact appearance of the panel can change with One UI updates, but the documented activation route remains Quick Settings followed by the Samsung DeX control.
Which DeX interface should I expect?
Samsung distinguishes between Classic DeX and New DeX in its support documentation. Samsung says tablets on One UI 7.1 and earlier use Classic DeX, while tablets on One UI 8 and higher use New DeX. Labels and window controls can therefore differ from screenshots or instructions made for another software release.

How to control DeX on the tablet
Touch and S Pen
You can use DeX with the Tab S10 FE’s touchscreen alone. Tap a window or control to select it, drag a window to reposition it, and use touch gestures supported by the current app. Samsung also lists the S Pen as a supported input method. This is the simplest configuration when you want a temporary desktop workspace without carrying accessories.

Touch control is practical for short sessions, reading, and app switching. Text-heavy work is usually more comfortable with a physical keyboard, but adding one is optional rather than a requirement for DeX.
Keyboard and mouse
Samsung lists USB and Bluetooth keyboards and mice as supported DeX input devices. A USB setup uses a compatible wired peripheral; a Bluetooth setup keeps the tablet free of a cable. You can use a keyboard without a mouse and operate the rest of the interface by touch or S Pen, or add both for a more conventional pointer-and-keyboard arrangement.

How to pair a Bluetooth keyboard or mouse
- Put the keyboard or mouse into its Bluetooth pairing mode. Follow the peripheral manufacturer’s pairing procedure if it has a dedicated button or key combination.
- On the tablet, open Settings > Connections > Bluetooth.
- Turn Bluetooth on if it is off, then wait for the device to appear under available devices.
- Tap the keyboard or mouse name.
- Tap Pair when the confirmation prompt appears. If the accessory displays a code, complete the code-entry instruction shown on the tablet or accessory.
If the device does not appear, return it to pairing mode, keep it close to the tablet, and refresh the available-device list. A keyboard that is already connected to another computer or tablet may need to be disconnected there first. For a wired USB device, connect it directly and give the tablet a moment to recognize it; if it does not respond, try another compatible peripheral or connection arrangement rather than assuming DeX itself is disabled.
How to use multiple windows in DeX
The central benefit of DeX is the ability to work with several app windows instead of constantly leaving one full-screen app for another. Samsung’s newer instructions associate the pop-up-window workflow with Android 16 and One UI 8.0 or higher.

Open an app in a movable window
- Start DeX and open Home.
- Launch the app you want to use.
- Swipe down on the app’s top header bar to place the app in pop-up view.
- Open another app and repeat the process as needed.
- Drag a window to move it and adjust its size using the window controls or edges available in your version of DeX.
Use a large window for the task that needs the most attention and smaller windows for reference material, a calculator, notes, or messaging. The exact handles and title-bar controls depend on whether the tablet is using Classic DeX or New DeX.
Create another desktop
Separate workspaces help keep unrelated tasks apart. For example, one desktop can hold study materials while another contains communication apps. To create one:
- Open Recents.
- Select the add-desktop icon.
- Switch between the desktops from the Recents workspace controls.
Samsung’s current DeX feature guidance states that you can create up to four workspaces. It also states a maximum of five apps open simultaneously in each workspace. These are vendor-stated feature limits, not independent performance-test results, and the multi-desktop workflow requires Android 16 or higher in Samsung’s guidance.

A practical laptop-style workflow
For writing and research
Pair a keyboard, open your writing app in a large window, and place a browser or reference app beside it. Keep notes in a third window if needed. When the windows become crowded, move the reference task to another workspace rather than repeatedly minimizing and reopening it.
For email and messaging
Use one workspace for communication: keep email in the main window, messaging in a smaller window, and a calendar or notes app nearby. Because each app controls its own Android interface, expect some apps to retain mobile-style menus even while their windows are arranged in DeX.

For file and content tasks
Place the file manager or document app in the main window and open the supporting app beside it. A mouse can make selecting and dragging easier, while touch remains available for controls that are more natural on a tablet. If an app will not open in DeX, use the tablet’s normal interface for that task or look for an alternative app that explicitly supports the required workflow.
Can I connect the Tab S10 FE to an external monitor with DeX?
No. Samsung’s US compatibility guidance says the Galaxy Tab S10 FE is not compatible with HDMI output or Wireless DeX to a TV or monitor. That means you should not plan a DeX desk around an external display, HDMI adapter, USB-C-to-HDMI cable, or wireless display device for this model.
DeX on the Tab S10 FE is therefore a standalone, tablet-screen experience. A keyboard cover, Bluetooth keyboard, mouse, touch, and S Pen can change how you control the workspace, but they do not add a supported external DeX display path.

Choose accessories based on how you work: portability, local keyboard language, an integrated cover versus a separate keyboard, and whether a mouse is useful to you. Prices and regional stock change, so verify the current local listing instead of relying on an old product page.
Why an app may not behave like a desktop app
Samsung warns that some apps may not run in DeX or may require a separate license. Even when an app opens, its Android interface may remain optimized for a phone or tablet rather than a full desktop. A window can therefore have limited resizing, unusual menus, or controls that are easier to use with touch than with a mouse.

- If an app refuses to launch, confirm that it is installed and updated, then try it from the standard tablet interface.
- If it opens but lacks expected window controls, treat that as an app limitation rather than evidence that DeX is malfunctioning.
- If a service asks for a license, the DeX mode itself does not replace that app’s licensing requirement.
- Keep the apps that work well in DeX on one workspace and use the regular tablet interface for apps that do not.
Troubleshooting common DeX problems
The Samsung DeX tile is missing
- Swipe down from the top-right with two fingers to open the full Quick Settings panel.
- Look through additional Quick Settings pages and the panel-editing screen for the DeX tile.
- Check the installed One UI version. Samsung’s interface changes between Classic DeX and New DeX, so an older guide may show a different label or arrangement.
The pop-up or add-desktop control is not present
Check whether the tablet is running Android 16 and One UI 8.0 or higher. Samsung ties the described pop-up-window controls to that software combination and the newer multi-desktop workflow to Android 16 or higher. If the tablet uses an earlier release, its DeX controls may legitimately differ.
The keyboard or mouse will not pair
- Put the accessory back into pairing mode.
- Open Settings > Connections > Bluetooth and verify Bluetooth is enabled.
- Select the device from the available-device list and tap Pair.
- If it still does not appear, disconnect it from another nearby device and try again with the accessory close to the tablet.
An app opens full screen or will not resize
Not every Android app supports the same DeX window behavior. Try another supported app to distinguish an app-specific limitation from a system-wide issue. If only one app is affected, use its own tablet interface or check whether the app requires a separate license for the relevant functionality.
You expected a TV or monitor to work
The Tab S10 FE is the wrong model for HDMI or Wireless DeX output according to Samsung’s compatibility guidance. Return to the standalone workflow on the tablet rather than troubleshooting cables, adapters, or wireless receivers that cannot provide a supported DeX display path for this model.
How to leave DeX
- Swipe down from the top-right with two fingers to reopen Quick Settings.
- Tap the Samsung DeX icon.
- The tablet returns to its regular interface.
Exiting standalone DeX does not require disconnecting a keyboard or mouse. Those accessories can remain paired for later use, or you can turn them off when you want to conserve their batteries.
What to check before relying on DeX for work
- Confirm that standalone DeX appears in Quick Settings on your Tab S10 FE.
- Check the Android and One UI versions if you need pop-up windows or multiple workspaces.
- Test the specific apps you depend on; Samsung does not guarantee DeX support for every app.
- Decide whether touch and S Pen are sufficient or whether a keyboard and mouse will make your workflow faster.
- Verify local keyboard layout, accessory availability, and current pricing, especially for the separately sold Book Cover Keyboard.
- Plan for the built-in tablet display because HDMI and Wireless DeX to a TV or monitor are not supported on this model.
Standalone DeX on the Tab S10 FE: the practical verdict
The Tab S10 FE is well suited to a portable, self-contained DeX workspace: activate it from Quick Settings, arrange supported apps in windows, and add a keyboard or mouse only if your work benefits from physical controls. Newer multitasking instructions depend on Android 16 and the relevant One UI release, and Samsung’s limits are up to four workspaces and five simultaneous apps per workspace. The decisive constraint is the display path: this model cannot send DeX to an external monitor or TV through HDMI or Wireless DeX, so its laptop-style experience stays on the tablet screen.
