Use Puppeteer’s Page.screenshot() to save a rendered Hindi HTML page as a PNG. Put the HTML in a page with page.setContent() (or navigate to a served page with page.goto()), ensure its font supports Devanagari, wait for web fonts to finish loading, and capture the page.
Capture Hindi HTML as a PNG with Puppeteer
This ES-module example renders a standalone HTML string and saves a full-page screenshot. It assumes Puppeteer and a Devanagari-capable font are available in the capture environment; if the font is remote, the page needs network access to load it.

Choose a font with Devanagari glyph coverage that is installed locally or loaded by the page, then verify the resulting image. Puppeteer documents the screenshot API and font readiness separately; explicitly waiting for document.fonts.ready avoids relying on an undocumented automatic wait for screenshots. Use setContent() or goto()?
For an HTML string
Use page.setContent(html) when your program already has the markup. This is convenient for generated HTML, but external stylesheets, images, and fonts still need to load successfully if the page references them.

For a served page
Use await page.goto(url) when the HTML is available at a URL. Navigation gives the page its normal URL context, which can matter for relative asset paths. In either case, wait for the resources your capture depends on before taking the screenshot.
Make Devanagari render correctly
- Declare UTF-8: Include
<meta charset="utf-8">so the HTML encoding is explicit. - Choose a suitable font: The active font needs Devanagari glyphs. A generic fallback such as
sans-serifis useful, but does not establish that the intended font loaded. - Wait for web fonts: A web font requires a stylesheet request and then a font-file request; availability may vary while those requests are pending. The example waits for
document.fonts.readybefore capture. Google Fonts explains its font loading flow in its getting started guidance and technical considerations. - Inspect the PNG: Check for missing glyphs, incorrect shaping, or unexpected fallback typography. A successful screenshot call alone does not confirm the desired font rendered.
Choose screenshot dimensions and scope
Set the viewport explicitly before capture so the page layout has predictable dimensions. Use fullPage: true to include content beyond the viewport; omit it when only the visible viewport is needed. The path option saves the file, and a relative path such as hindi.png is resolved from the current working directory. PNG is Puppeteer’s default screenshot format, though specifying type: 'png' makes the intent clear. The quality option does not apply to PNG. See the ScreenshotOptions reference.

To capture a single element instead of the whole page, locate it and call ElementHandle.screenshot(). Puppeteer scrolls the element into view when needed before taking the capture; consult the ElementHandle.screenshot() reference.

- Boxes or blank spaces instead of letters: Check that the font actually loaded and includes Devanagari glyphs. Confirm the capture environment can reach any remote font files, or use a locally available font.
- Unexpected font despite a CSS declaration: A
font-familydeclaration is only a preference. Inspect the page afterdocument.fonts.readyand verify that font requests succeeded. - Characters appear garbled: Confirm the HTML is encoded as UTF-8 and includes the charset declaration. Also inspect the saved image rather than assuming the browser used the intended encoding and font.
- Screenshot cuts off content: Set
fullPage: truefor a full-page capture, or adjust the viewport if the layout itself depends on its dimensions. - Output is not where expected: A relative screenshot path resolves from the process’s current working directory. Use an absolute path when the save location must be unambiguous.
- PNG capture rejects a quality value: Remove
quality; it is not applicable to PNG screenshots.
