To get a spoiler-conscious hint on PS5, open Control Center while playing, select the game’s Game Help card, and choose the specific objective you need help with. Start with the least revealing hint available, and do not open a hidden activity or video unless you are comfortable seeing more. Game Help is available only for supported games and objectives; activity cards can also show progress, challenges, or shortcuts into other parts of a game, so avoid browsing unrelated cards if you are trying to protect a story reveal.
What Game Help and activity cards do
Game Help is contextual guidance built into the PS5 Control Center. In a supported game, it can offer assistance for particular objectives in formats such as text, images, and video. The game and objective determine what appears; some games or objectives have no Game Help, and there is no current complete title list or established figure for how many games support it.

Activity cards are broader shortcuts and status panels associated with the game you are playing. Depending on the title and context, they may show progress, features, trophies, challenges, or activities, and some can take you directly into an activity. Game Help is one kind of card you may see; it is the card to focus on when you want help with a particular objective rather than a tour of everything the game offers.
That distinction matters for spoilers. PlayStation says Game Help content containing story spoilers appears as a hidden activity. That is a warning and a choice to reveal specific content—not a guarantee that every card, game screen, or possible spoiler on the console is hidden. If the story matters to you, select only the objective you need and treat any hidden item as a deliberate reveal.

How to open a hint without browsing for spoilers
- Start the game and open Control Center. Press the PS button while playing.
- Select the Game Help card. The card wording and what is available can vary with the game and system language. If it is not present, that title or current objective may not offer Game Help.
- Choose the objective you are stuck on. Avoid opening unrelated activity cards or objectives: they may take you to a different activity or expose information you did not need.
- Read the smallest hint first. If the game creator has supplied graduated hints, begin with a vague nudge and move to a partial step only if necessary. Stop as soon as you can continue on your own.
- Check before revealing hidden content. If an item is marked hidden because it contains a story spoiler, open it only if you accept that risk. A video can reveal more than the exact clue you were seeking, so do not play one automatically.
- Return to the game. Press the PS button to go back. If the game offers it and you want the guidance visible during play, use the pinning option described below.
The order of hints is not guaranteed. PlayStation describes a possible progression from a vague clue to partial steps and then a full walkthrough, but the game creator supplies the help, so a title may offer only one format or level of detail. Use the options actually shown for the objective rather than expecting every game to provide the same sequence.
Keep the target narrow before you open the card. Identify the exact obstacle—an objective, puzzle, or action you cannot complete—then select the matching entry if it is available. If you only need to know what to try next, a short text hint may be enough; if you need to recognize a visual detail, an image may be more useful. This small pause helps you avoid opening a walkthrough for an entire section when a single clue would do.
Choose a hint format and depth deliberately
Game Help may combine formats, but the practical trade-off is how much information each format can expose at once. Use the narrowest format that can answer your question.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches| Option | Useful when | Spoiler-conscious approach |
|---|---|---|
| Text hint | You need a small nudge or instruction and want to read at your own pace. | Read only the first available hint, then stop if it gets you moving. |
| Image | A visual reference would clarify a location, object, or action. | Inspect only the image attached to your current objective; it may show more of the scene than a short text clue. |
| Video | You need to see a sequence or exact execution. | Open it only when text or an image is insufficient. A video may disclose surrounding events or solutions beyond the point where you were stuck. |
| Further hint or walkthrough | You have tried the earlier guidance and still cannot proceed. | Advance one level at a time. A full walkthrough is the most direct option, but can give away the solution and more context than you need. |
The table describes a cautious way to use the available formats, not a promise that each title offers all four. PlayStation’s feature explanation says the game creator provides the content and describes hints that can become progressively more explicit. The amount and sequence of help remain title-dependent.
Think of the choice as a trade-off between precision and context. Text lets you control the pace of reading, but a clue can still disclose a plot detail if it is written that way. An image can make a location or object easier to identify, while also showing surrounding visual information. Video can demonstrate a precise sequence, but it is harder to avoid seeing the frames around the moment you need. None of these formats is automatically spoiler-free; use the hidden warning when one appears and choose only as much help as you want.
What hidden activities do—and do not—protect
PlayStation Support’s instructions for PS5 Game Help say that help containing storyline spoilers appears as a hidden activity. In practical terms, the console may conceal the spoiler-bearing help until you choose to reveal it. Read the on-screen warning or prompt before continuing; if you want to preserve the surprise, back out rather than revealing the details.

Do not interpret that behavior as a universal spoiler filter. It applies to spoiler-bearing Game Help content as described by PlayStation, not necessarily every activity card or every way a game might reveal story information. Cards can expose information about progress, challenges, trophies, and activities, and titles handle their own content differently. When avoiding spoilers is important, keep your browsing narrow: open the Game Help card, select the objective you need, and avoid unrelated card titles.

Treat the hidden label as useful control over the help item in front of you, not a promise that using the Control Center is risk-free in every context.
A hidden label is therefore a decision point, not an instruction to continue. If you are unsure whether the reveal is worth it, close the item and try the least revealing available help first. You can return to a hidden activity later if you decide that progressing is more important than avoiding the information it contains.
Pin Game Help beside gameplay
Some Game Help content can be pinned to the side of the screen so you can consult it while continuing to play. When the option is available, select Multitasking, then Pin to Side. The exact option may not appear for every game or piece of help.
To stop pinning or change the position, open the multitasking menu again and use its available controls. Pinning is useful when you need to glance at a clue while performing an action, but it does not change the clue’s spoiler level. Choose the hint carefully before pinning it.

Pinning is an optional convenience, not a requirement for using Game Help. If you prefer to read the clue and return to play without keeping it on screen, simply use the guidance normally. If you pin a hint and then decide it is too revealing or no longer useful, use the multitasking menu to stop pinning or adjust its position where those controls are offered.

Activity cards: useful shortcuts, with a browsing trade-off
Cards are not all hints. PlayStation’s Control Center guidance describes cards as contextual, with information such as progress or challenges; PlayStation’s PS5 owners’ guide also gives examples of cards that can launch activities or side quests directly. The exact cards depend on the active game and what you are doing.
That direct-launch behavior can save time when you already know what you want to play. It can also move you into an activity without navigating through the game’s menus. But if the goal is strictly to get unstuck without learning what comes next, a broad scan of cards is unnecessary. Select Game Help and the current objective instead of opening cards just to see what they contain.
If Game Help is absent, do not assume that another card is an equivalent hint. A card may be a progress display, a feature shortcut, or a launch point, rather than guidance for your current puzzle or mission.
Use the cards according to your goal. If you want to check a challenge or see progress, those cards can be useful, but they serve a different purpose from a targeted clue. If you want to avoid even incidental story information, do not browse a list of activity names just because it is available; go straight to the objective-specific Game Help card when present. This is not because every other card contains spoilers, but because unrelated cards are unnecessary exposure when you only need one answer.
Optional: Community Game Help and capture privacy
Community Game Help is a separate feature from simply viewing the Game Help available for a game. PlayStation documents an opt-in setting at Settings > Captures & Broadcasts > Auto Captures > Community Game Help. The feature uses eligible gameplay captures to provide community videos as help. PlayStation says only adult accounts can participate, and the feature has a monthly capture limit; the cited feature information does not state a number for that limit.
- PlayStation says webcam footage, microphone activity, and Party chat are not captured or uploaded for this program.
- You can view videos you have published through the feature.
- According to PlayStation Support, opting out stops future capture and upload and permanently removes your published videos, including from hints where they appeared.
You do not need to opt into Community Game Help merely to view the built-in Game Help content described above. If you enable it, review the console’s current setting and the on-screen details; the feature’s participation controls are separate from choosing whether to reveal a spoiler-bearing hint.

Because it is optional, you can decide about Community Game Help independently of your immediate need for a hint. Viewing available Game Help does not require you to turn on this capture setting. If you do participate, note that opting out has a lasting effect on videos already published through the feature: PlayStation Support says those videos are permanently removed, including from hints where they appeared. The monthly capture limit is documented, but no specific number is given in PlayStation’s feature information cited here.
Why the feature is designed around player choice
In a June 11, 2021 PlayStation.Blog article, Adil Sherwani, then identified as Director of Platform Planning & Management at SIE, described Game Help as a way to let players control how much assistance they receive: “Because all players have different preferences, the goal is to allow players to have control over how much help they are receiving.” The same article attributed to PlayStation’s own development findings the claims that almost half of players get stuck weekly and more than half encounter spoilers or spend too much time searching when seeking game help. The blog did not name a research organization, sample, or separate report, so those figures should be understood as PlayStation’s summary rather than independently verified industry statistics.
The practical point is that help need not mean surrendering the whole solution. A targeted nudge can save time without requiring a full walkthrough, and the hidden-activity prompt gives you a choice about content identified as story-spoiling. The feature’s usefulness depends on choosing the amount of assistance that fits your situation; it does not guarantee that every title offers a carefully staged ladder of clues.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. If Game Help or a hint is missing
- No Game Help card appears: Support varies by game and objective. The available information does not establish a complete, current list of supported titles, so absence of a card is not enough to identify the reason.
- The card appears, but your objective is absent: Game Help is objective-specific. Check only the available objective list; there may be no help for the point you are on.
- You see a hidden activity: That is the point to pause and decide. Reveal it only if you are willing to see story-spoiling information.
- You cannot pin the guidance: Pin to Side is offered only where supported. If the option is not shown, use the hint without pinning it.
- The menu label differs: PlayStation’s published steps can vary by localization or system version. Follow the equivalent on-screen Game Help or multitasking option rather than assuming every console displays identical wording.
Do not troubleshoot the absence of a hint by assuming you have missed a universal setting or that a particular title must support every objective. PlayStation describes availability as dependent on the game and the current objective, and it does not publish a complete current title-by-title list in the cited guidance. If there is no appropriate card or hint, use the game’s own available options or continue without assuming another Control Center card will provide the same type of help.
Cost and what you need
Game Help and activity cards are built-in PS5 features, so this task does not call for a separate controller, headset, printed guide, capture device, or other accessory. The practical prerequisites are a PS5, a game and objective that offer the relevant card, and a choice about how much of the help you want to reveal. Community Game Help is optional; turning it on is not required just to view available Game Help.

Escalate to another hint only when the first one is not enough; treat hidden content and videos as choices to make, not automatic next steps. Use Pin to Side if offered and helpful. This keeps the feature focused on solving the immediate problem instead of turning a small detour into a full walkthrough.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a hint on PS5 without spoiling the story?
While playing, press the PS button to open Control Center, select the Game Help card, and choose the objective you need. Start with the smallest available hint. If the help is marked as a hidden activity, reveal it only if you accept the possibility of a story spoiler.
Do all PS5 games have Game Help?
No. Game Help depends on the game and the objective, and there is no complete current title list or established count in PlayStation’s cited guidance. A missing card or objective may simply mean help is not offered there.
Are activity cards the same as Game Help?
No. Activity cards can show progress, features, trophies, challenges, or activities, and some can launch an activity directly. Game Help is the card to focus on when you want guidance for a specific objective.

No. PlayStation says Game Help containing storyline spoilers appears as a hidden activity. That is not a universal spoiler filter for every activity card, game screen, or other way a game might reveal story information.
Can I keep a Game Help hint visible while I play?
Where offered, select Multitasking and then Pin to Side. Use the multitasking menu to stop pinning or change its position. Pinning does not change how revealing the hint is.
Do I have to enable Community Game Help to view hints?
No. Community Game Help is a separate, optional feature. PlayStation documents its opt-in setting under Settings > Captures & Broadcasts > Auto Captures > Community Game Help. Only adult accounts can participate; the feature has a monthly capture limit, but PlayStation’s cited feature information does not give a number.
What happens if I opt out of Community Game Help?
PlayStation Support says opting out stops future capture and upload and permanently removes your published videos, including from hints where they appeared. PlayStation also says webcam footage, microphone activity, and Party chat are not captured or uploaded for this program.
The Bottom Line
For the narrowest spoiler risk, use Game Help for the exact objective you are stuck on, begin with the least revealing hint, and stop when you can continue. Treat hidden activities and videos as deliberate choices, not automatic steps; activity cards are useful shortcuts but are not all hints. Availability varies by title and objective, and Pin to Side and Community Game Help are optional.
