In the US, PayPal Credit can mean either a digital credit line used at eligible PayPal checkouts or a PayPal Credit Card that works wherever Mastercard is accepted. After you apply and are approved, PayPal determines which form you receive; you cannot choose. Both products are issued by Synchrony Bank and subject to credit approval.

PayPal assigns the account form based on credit history after approval. It is not a form you select during the application. PayPal’s credit services page describes the available forms and their use.

How to apply and use PayPal Credit
- Apply through PayPal. Use PayPal’s website or app. Applicants provide their date of birth, after-tax income, and the last four digits of their Social Security number, then agree to the terms. PayPal says applicants receive a decision within seconds. You must be the legal age in your state and live in the US; approval is required.
- Choose the payment route that matches your account. For the digital line, choose PayPal during an eligible merchant’s checkout and select PayPal Credit if it appears. For the card, use it online or in person where Mastercard is accepted. Neither form is guaranteed to be available for every transaction.
- Review the checkout disclosure before confirming. Check the promotion, deadline, required payments, applicable APR, and how unpaid promotional balances are treated. Offers may vary and may not appear on every purchase.
- Keep track of the purchase and its due date. Review the account and statement so you know the minimum due and any promotional payoff deadline. A minimum payment does not necessarily pay off a promotional balance before its deadline.
How to pay your PayPal Credit bill
PayPal lists payment options online, in its app, by phone, and by mail. Online, sign in to PayPal and open your PayPal Credit account to make a one-time payment, schedule a future payment, or set up autopay. In the app, open the account from the dashboard and choose Make a Payment; select the amount, payment method, and date, then submit.

How the six-month financing offer works
As of October 7, 2026, PayPal’s product page advertises six months of special financing on qualifying purchases of $149 or more, subject to terms and credit approval. Minimum monthly payments are still required. If the purchase is not paid in full within the six-month promotional period, interest is charged from the purchase date at the applicable variable purchase APR. Confirm that the offer appears for your specific transaction and read its disclosure before paying.
That is deferred interest, not a promise that no interest will ever apply. Paying only the required minimum may leave a balance when the promotional period ends. To avoid deferred interest on a qualifying purchase, plan payments to clear that purchase in full by the stated deadline, while continuing to meet the account’s minimum-payment requirement.

What APR applies to regular purchases?
The PayPal Credit terms dated January 1, 2026 state a 29.64% variable purchase APR. The rate varies with the market based on the prime rate and will not exceed 35.99%, according to those terms. These are dated terms, not a guarantee of the rate on a later transaction or account: check your current account agreement and the checkout disclosure for the applicable rate.
