How to Use PancakeSwap: Connect a Wallet, Swap Tokens, and Check Fees

To use PancakeSwap, connect a wallet that supports the network holding your tokens, choose the tokens to exchange, inspect the quote and wallet request, then confirm the transaction in your wallet. Keep that network’s native gas token available, and never share your recovery phrase. Swapping is a one-time exchange; providing liquidity is a separate activity with different risks.

Before you start: choose a network and wallet

PancakeSwap works across multiple networks, but available tokens, wallet steps, and gas requirements depend on the network. Its documentation describes swaps on BNB Smart Chain, Ethereum, and Aptos, and provides separate guidance for other networks, including Solana and Monad. Check the live PancakeSwap interface for its current supported networks before choosing one: PancakeSwap documentation.

Choose a wallet that supports the network where your tokens are held. A token symbol alone does not establish which network or token contract is correct; verify both using trustworthy project information. PancakeSwap’s BNB Smart Chain setup guide describes the sequence of creating a wallet, obtaining BEP20 tokens, and connecting it: Getting started with PancakeSwap.

Install wallet software only from its official source and store its recovery phrase securely offline. PancakeSwap’s wallet materials name SafePal in software and hardware formats, but that is an example, not a universal recommendation. Never enter a recovery phrase or private key on PancakeSwap or share it with anyone claiming to provide support: Connect a wallet.

Fund the wallet for the chosen network

Have the token you plan to exchange and enough of the network’s native asset to pay transaction gas. The required gas asset varies by network; for example, PancakeSwap’s Solana setup guidance identifies SOL as the asset used for Solana transaction fees. Check the current network-specific instructions rather than assuming one network’s funding rules apply to another: PancakeSwap getting-started guide.

How do I connect a wallet to PancakeSwap?

  1. Open the official PancakeSwap site. Use its official domain or a bookmark you created after verifying the address; do not follow unsolicited wallet or support links.
  2. Select Connect. Choose your wallet and follow its connection prompt. Button labels and wallet steps may change.
  3. Check the network. Confirm that the wallet is set to the network where the assets you intend to use are held. If it is not, stop and switch networks using the wallet’s normal controls.
  4. Review what the wallet is asking. Connecting a wallet lets the site interact with the wallet interface; it is not the same as approving a token or confirming a transaction. Reject unexpected requests.

PancakeSwap publishes separate connection instructions for different wallets and devices. Follow the relevant guide if the connection flow differs from these general steps: PancakeSwap wallet connection guide.

How do I swap tokens on PancakeSwap?

  1. Open the swap or trade feature after connecting your wallet.
  2. Select the token to spend and the token to receive. Verify each token’s network and contract where the interface provides that information. Be cautious with unfamiliar tokens or symbols that could refer to more than one asset.
  3. Enter the amount. Review the estimated amount you will receive and the route details available in the interface. The displayed quote can change before the transaction is processed.
  4. Inspect the trade before signing. Check the route, estimated output, any displayed price impact or slippage information, applicable fees, and the network shown in the wallet. If the proposed contract, network, destination, or permission is unexpected, do not continue.
  5. Approve the token if prompted. A first trade may require a separate token-approval transaction before the swap. Read the wallet prompt and approve only the intended token and action.
  6. Confirm the swap in your wallet. Review the final transaction request, including its network and gas estimate, then confirm only if it matches the trade you chose.
  7. Check the result. Wait for the wallet to report the transaction status and, if needed, inspect the transaction on the relevant block explorer.

If the swap fails or remains pending

Check the wallet and transaction status before trying again. A pending transaction, insufficient gas, a network mismatch, limited liquidity, token restrictions, or slippage may prevent a trade from completing. Do not repeatedly submit the same swap without first checking whether an earlier transaction is still pending. A displayed quote is not a guarantee that a transaction will succeed or execute at that price.

What fees does PancakeSwap charge?

There is no single fee that applies to every route. PancakeSwap’s swap documentation lists the following figures; they are documented settings, not a promise of the fee on a particular live trade. Check the route and wallet prompt for the transaction you are about to make.

Pool or swap type Documented fee What to know
V3 pools 0.01%, 0.05%, 0.25%, or 1% The fee tier depends on the pool and route.
V2 on BNB Smart Chain and Ethereum 0.25% The documentation describes this as a fixed trading fee and allocates 0.17% to liquidity providers, 0.0225% to Treasury, and 0.0575% toward CAKE buyback and burn.
StableSwap pools Depends on pool configuration Check the fee shown for the specific pool or route.
Aptos Exchange V2 0.25% The documentation says Aptos swaps use Exchange V2.

These figures come from PancakeSwap’s swap documentation, whose page was labeled as last updated about a year before September 30, 2026. Deployments and settings can change, so rely on the current route display for a trade: PancakeSwap swap documentation.

Pool fees are not the only possible costs. Network gas is separate, and some token contracts impose their own transfer or transaction tax. PancakeSwap’s FAQ uses a 1% token tax as an example; that is not a standard PancakeSwap fee and does not apply to every token: PancakeSwap FAQ.

Swapping and providing liquidity are different

Activity What you do Main considerations
Swap Exchange one token for another in a transaction. Check the route, quote, fees, gas, token approval, and wallet request before confirming.
Provide liquidity Deposit a pair of tokens into a pool to support trading. You may receive trading fees, but returns are not guaranteed. V3 positions use a chosen price range, and pool-price changes can create impermanent loss.

In V3, a liquidity position is represented as a non-fungible position with a selected price range. Fees are not automatically compounded into the position; the liquidity guide says they can be claimed from the position details. You can remove liquidity, but the value of the deposited tokens can change relative to simply holding them. PancakeSwap’s guide defines impermanent loss as “the difference between holding tokens in an AMM and holding them in your wallet,” attributing that wording to Nate Hindman: PancakeSwap liquidity guide.

Wallet and transaction safety checks

  • Never share a private key or recovery phrase. A legitimate support person does not need either to help with a wallet connection.
  • Verify the PancakeSwap domain independently before connecting, and download wallet software from its official source.
  • Inspect every wallet request. A connection, token approval, and swap confirmation are distinct actions.
  • Check the network, token, and requested permissions before signing; reject anything you do not recognize.
  • A hardware wallet can change how you authorize transactions, but it does not remove risks from phishing, malicious tokens, smart contracts, or signing an unwanted request.

PancakeSwap’s wallet and connection guidance emphasizes protecting recovery phrases and using wallet connection steps carefully: Wallet connection guidance.
