On a recent OPPO phone running ColorOS 14, enable One-handed mode in Settings > Accessibility & convenience > One-handed mode, then swipe down from the bottom edge to shrink the usable screen. Swipe up or tap the blank area above the reduced screen to return to normal. ColorOS 14.1 may place the same setting under Settings > Additional settings, and the exact path and gesture depend on your model and navigation configuration.
If those instructions do not match your phone, first check Settings > About phone for the ColorOS version. Older releases use a Quick Settings control instead of the newer bottom-edge gesture. The steps below separate each documented version so you do not apply the wrong procedure.

What One-handed mode does
One-handed mode temporarily reduces and repositions the interactive area of the display so controls near the top are easier to reach with one thumb. It is a software setting, so you do not need an accessory, a replacement part, or a separate app.

Because OPPO changes menu locations and activation gestures between ColorOS releases, use the section that matches your phone rather than treating one path as universal.
Before you begin
Have the phone unlocked and hold it in the orientation in which you normally use it. One-handed mode is intended to bring distant controls into easier reach, but it does not remove the app’s own buttons or change the phone permanently. The reduced view remains a temporary display state; leaving the mode restores the regular full-screen layout.
If you use a protective case, check that its lower rim does not cover the edge of the glass. The documented ColorOS 14.1 gesture starts at the bottom edge, so a finger that begins several millimeters above that edge may be interpreted as an ordinary scroll. A screen protector or case is not required for the feature, but either can make the starting point harder to reach.
Also note whether the phone currently uses gesture navigation or virtual navigation buttons. That detail determines which activation method is available on some releases and is especially important if you recently enabled an accessibility control.
Check your ColorOS version and navigation first
Find the software version
- Open Settings.
- Tap About phone. Some models label this About device.
- Read the ColorOS version entry. Note the major and minor release, such as ColorOS 14.0 or 14.1.
OPPO’s support materials identify About phone/About device as the place to check software information. If your menus use different wording, type One-handed mode into the Settings search field; Android’s general guidance recommends searching Settings by the exact feature name when the menu path is unclear: Google’s “Use one-handed mode” guide.
Check whether gesture navigation is enabled
The ColorOS 14 and 14.1 manuals describe the documented One-handed mode flow in a Gestures navigation context. To inspect the setting on a recent phone, open Settings and search for System navigation, Navigation mode, or Gestures; the exact label varies by model and regional build. Select Gestures if the One-handed mode switch or bottom-edge gesture is unavailable.
Do not change navigation blindly if you rely on three-button controls. First confirm the ColorOS version and read the model-specific wording shown on your screen. A navigation change can also affect how you return Home, switch apps, and go back.
Record the starting configuration
Before changing anything, make a quick note of the current navigation choice and whether Accessibility Menu is enabled. This gives you a clear way to reverse a test and helps OPPO support understand the problem if the setting remains unavailable. Change one setting at a time, then test One-handed mode before making another change.

Enable One-handed mode in ColorOS 14 and 14.1
ColorOS 14.0 path
- Open Settings.
- Tap Accessibility & convenience.
- Tap One-handed mode.
- Turn on the One-handed mode switch.
That location is documented in OPPO’s ColorOS 14.0 manual: ColorOS 14.0 User Manual.
The 14.0 manual confirms the settings location and the gesture-navigation context, but the exact activation wording can vary by handset. After enabling the switch, read any instructions shown on that page instead of assuming that every 14.0 phone uses the same movement as 14.1.
ColorOS 14.1 paths
ColorOS 14.1 documentation lists two possible locations. Try the first path, then the second if the item is not present:
| Try first | If it is missing |
|---|---|
| Settings > Accessibility & convenience > One-handed mode | Settings > Additional settings > One-handed mode |
Open the switch after locating the page. OPPO’s ColorOS 14.1 User Manual documents both menu arrangements, which is why a path that works on one OPPO model may not appear on another running a related build.
Use Settings search when labels differ
- Open Settings.
- Tap the search icon or search field.
- Enter
One-handed mode, including the hyphen. - Open the matching result and switch it on.
If search returns no result, record the ColorOS version and check the older-version instructions later in this guide. A missing result can also indicate that the current navigation mode or device software does not expose the feature in the documented context.
Enter and exit the mode on ColorOS 14.1
Enter One-handed mode
After the switch is on, place your finger at the bottom edge of the display and swipe down. In the ColorOS 14.1 documented flow, the usable screen contracts toward the lower portion of the display, bringing controls that were high on the screen closer to your thumb.
Start the gesture from the actual bottom edge rather than the middle of the screen. If you use a case with a raised lip, make sure it does not prevent your finger from reaching the edge. Perform a deliberate, short downward swipe; a slow drag from the center is interpreted as ordinary scrolling instead.
Do not begin at the top edge: a downward movement there is normally associated with opening the Notification Center. The one-handed gesture described in the 14.1 manual is specifically a bottom-edge movement, so starting from the wrong edge can make a correctly enabled feature appear broken.

Exit One-handed mode
Use either documented exit method:
- Swipe up from the bottom of the screen.
- Tap the blank area above the reduced screen.
The second method is useful when the reduced display is showing a page that already scrolls vertically. Tapping the unused upper area avoids accidentally scrolling the app underneath. If you tap an active control rather than the blank area, the app may respond to that control instead of exiting the mode.
Use the mode without losing your place
Once the display is reduced, operate the app normally inside the visible interactive area. If a control is still outside reach, exit and try again after holding the phone in your usual hand; the mode changes reachability, not the app’s layout rules. When you finish the task, exit before handing the phone to another person so they see the normal full-screen interface.
If the swipe does nothing
- Confirm that the One-handed mode switch is still on.
- Verify that Gestures navigation is selected if your model follows the manual’s stated requirement.
- Repeat the gesture from the very bottom edge, not from a navigation button or the center of the display.
- Try the Settings search path to ensure you enabled the correct feature rather than a similarly named accessibility control.
- Restart the phone after a system update, then test again.
OPPO’s manuals describe the gesture and navigation requirement for the specific ColorOS 14/14.1 mode context; they do not establish that every OPPO model uses identical behavior. If your model displays different on-screen instructions, follow those instructions.

Navigation mode is incompatible
If the setting is hidden, disabled, or the gesture is ignored, inspect the navigation setting. A phone configured for virtual buttons may not expose the same bottom-edge gesture used by the documented ColorOS 14.1 flow. Switch to Gestures only if you are comfortable with gesture navigation, then return to the One-handed mode page and test again.
Accessibility Menu changed your navigation
OPPO’s Accessibility Menu is a separate accessibility feature. Its support article explains that enabling it may switch Gesture Navigation to virtual navigation buttons: OPPO Support: What is the Accessibility Menu in OPPO Phone. If you recently enabled Accessibility Menu and One-handed mode stopped working, check the navigation setting again. Disable Accessibility Menu temporarily only if you do not need its large on-screen control menu, then retest One-handed mode.
There is no need to disable Accessibility Menu merely because you want a smaller screen. Disable it only as a troubleshooting test or when you no longer need its control panel. If turning it off restores gesture navigation, decide which feature is more useful and use the navigation arrangement supported by that choice.
The menu path does not match
- Check Settings > About phone and identify the exact ColorOS release.
- Search Settings for
One-handed mode. - On ColorOS 14.1, check both Accessibility & convenience and Additional settings.
- Look for a model-specific software update, but do not assume an update will add the feature to every device.
Regional firmware, carrier customizations, screen form factors, and model-specific interfaces can change labels. The manuals cited here are authoritative for the releases and contexts they describe, not a guarantee that every OPPO handset presents identical controls.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsThe feature works, but the screen is not where expected
One-handed mode is intended to make the upper part of the interface reachable, but the reduced area may be positioned according to the phone’s current layout or documented behavior. Rotate the phone only if the app and device permit rotation; many apps lock orientation. Exit with a swipe up or by tapping the blank upper area, then re-enter after changing orientation.

If the reduced area seems to favor one side, do not infer that the setting is malfunctioning. Older OPPO guides explicitly provide lower-left and lower-right positioning controls, while newer documentation focuses on the reduced screen and its gestures. The available placement controls therefore depend on the ColorOS release and model.
Older OPPO versions use Quick Settings
Do not apply the ColorOS 14 bottom-edge gesture to a phone running an older release without checking its guide. OPPO’s ColorOS 11.1 and ColorOS 6.1 manuals describe a different implementation:
- Open the Notification Center by swiping down from the top of the screen.
- Unfold or expand the Quick Settings icons so the full panel is visible.
- Tap One-Handed Mode.
- Use the on-screen controls to move the reduced display toward the lower-left or lower-right corner, according to the option shown on your phone.
- Tap the on-screen exit control when you want to restore the full display.
The historical procedures are documented in OPPO’s ColorOS 11.1 User Guide and ColorOS 6.1 User Guide. Their Quick Settings control, corner positioning, and exit control should be treated as version-specific instructions, not as alternatives that must appear on ColorOS 14.

If you do not see the tile immediately, expand the panel before concluding that the function is missing. The older manuals describe unfolding the Quick Settings icons, so the compact first row is not the complete list of controls. If the tile is still absent after expansion, use About phone and Settings search to verify the release and feature name.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.One-handed mode versus Accessibility Menu
| Feature | What it changes | How you typically use it |
|---|---|---|
| One-handed mode | Reduces and repositions the usable screen area so distant controls are easier to reach. | Enable it in Settings, then use the version-specific gesture or Quick Settings command. |
| Accessibility Menu | Adds a large on-screen menu of accessibility and device controls; OPPO says it may change Gesture Navigation to virtual buttons. | Open the accessibility control when you need its command menu, then recheck navigation if another gesture stops working. |
If your goal is simply to reach the top of a tall display, choose One-handed mode. If you need persistent large controls for actions such as volume, screenshots, or other accessibility commands, Accessibility Menu addresses a different need.
A practical troubleshooting sequence
Follow these checks in order so each test changes only one variable:
- Identify the release: read the ColorOS version under About phone.
- Locate the setting: use the documented path for ColorOS 14/14.1, or search Settings for the exact name.
- Confirm the switch: make sure One-handed mode is enabled, not merely opened.
- Confirm navigation: check whether Gestures is selected when the manual requires it.
- Use the matching activation: bottom-edge swipe for the ColorOS 14.1 flow; Notification Center and Quick Settings for ColorOS 11.1 or 6.1.
- Check for interference: review Accessibility Menu and any navigation change it made.
- Test exit: use the documented swipe-up, blank-area tap, or older-version exit control.
- Escalate with precise details: if the option remains absent, note the exact model, ColorOS version, navigation mode, and whether Accessibility Menu is enabled before contacting OPPO support.
This order prevents a common mistake: changing navigation, testing the wrong gesture, and then changing another setting without knowing which step mattered. Restore your preferred navigation after testing if the phone’s normal controls are more comfortable that way.

Frequently asked questions
Frequently Asked Questions
Where is One-handed mode in OPPO settings?
On ColorOS 14, open Settings > Accessibility & convenience > One-handed mode. On ColorOS 14.1, also check Settings > Additional settings > One-handed mode. If neither path appears, search Settings for the exact phrase One-handed mode and check About phone for the installed ColorOS version.
How do I activate One-handed mode after enabling it?
For the documented ColorOS 14.1 flow, swipe down from the bottom edge of the display. Start at the actual edge, not the center or top. Older ColorOS 11.1 and 6.1 guides use Notification Center, expanded Quick Settings, and the One-Handed Mode tile instead.
Why does my OPPO phone show buttons instead of the one-handed gesture?
The phone may be using virtual-button navigation, or Accessibility Menu may have changed the navigation method. Check the navigation setting and select Gestures if that matches your model’s documented requirement, then test the bottom-edge swipe again.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Can I use the ColorOS 14.1 swipe on ColorOS 6.1?
Not according to the cited version guides. ColorOS 6.1 documents a Notification Center and Quick Settings tile, with on-screen controls for positioning and exiting the reduced display.
How do I get back to the normal full-screen view?
For the ColorOS 14.1 documented flow, swipe up or tap the blank area above the reduced screen. Older releases document an on-screen exit control.
Why can I find the setting on one OPPO phone but not another?
ColorOS releases and model-specific builds can place the setting in different menus. ColorOS 14.1 lists both Accessibility & convenience and Additional settings, while older releases use a Quick Settings tile. Check About phone, then search Settings for One-handed mode.
Does Accessibility Menu provide the same screen reduction?
No. One-handed mode reduces and repositions the usable screen area. Accessibility Menu provides a large on-screen control menu and may switch gesture navigation to virtual buttons, so it can affect One-handed mode without being the same feature.

Write down the exact model and ColorOS version, search Settings for One-handed mode, and check both documented ColorOS 14.1 paths. Confirm the navigation mode and whether Accessibility Menu is enabled. If the option remains absent, give those details to OPPO support rather than applying instructions from a different release.
Can I turn One-handed mode off later?
Return to the One-handed mode page you used to enable it and switch the setting off. If you only need to leave the temporary reduced view, use the documented exit gesture or on-screen exit control instead; disabling the setting is not required for a single exit.
Why does tapping the screen not exit the mode?
On ColorOS 14.1, the documented tap target is the blank area above the reduced screen. Tapping inside the reduced app area may activate that app instead. You can also swipe up from the bottom edge to exit.
The Bottom Line
Start with Settings > About phone, identify the ColorOS release, and then use its matching procedure. ColorOS 14.1 uses a bottom-edge swipe with swipe-up or blank-area exit, while ColorOS 11.1 and 6.1 use an expanded Quick Settings tile; if the feature is missing, check Gestures navigation and Accessibility Menu before contacting OPPO.
