To stream from OBS to YouTube, create or select a live stream in YouTube Studio, copy its stream key, and enter it in OBS under Settings > Stream. On a low-end PC, start with a modest resolution and frame rate—480p at 30 fps is a sensible first test—then raise quality only if both the computer and upload connection stay stable. Treat the stream key like a password.
Before you start: check the PC and connection
There is no single OBS preset that works for every low-end PC. Streaming depends on the encoder, output resolution, frame rate, scene complexity, and available upload capacity. OBS warns that meeting its basic system requirements does not guarantee that a particular setup can stream reliably: OBS system requirements.

- Check your upload speed, not just download speed. YouTube recommends leaving about 20% headroom above the total stream bitrate; other people or devices using the connection can reduce the capacity available to OBS. See YouTube’s streaming tips.
- Use representative audio, movement, and scenes when testing. A static desktop scene may be easier to encode than the content you intend to stream.
- Close unnecessary apps and avoid adding complex animated sources or filters until the basic stream is stable.
These checks apply in India as elsewhere; the cited guidance does not establish a single bitrate that will work across Indian internet connections.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteCreate the YouTube stream and connect OBS
- Open YouTube Studio. Create a live stream or select the live stream you plan to use. Follow YouTube’s on-screen setup for the stream.
- Copy the stream key. In the stream settings, copy the key associated with that stream. YouTube uses it to identify where the encoder should send video and to accept the feed. The available controls are described in YouTube’s live stream settings help.
- Open OBS Studio. Go to Settings > Stream, select YouTube as the service if that option is available, and enter or paste the stream key in the key field. Apply the settings.
- Set output and video options. Use the conservative settings below as a starting point. Change one setting at a time so you can tell what improves or worsens stability.
- Test before the real broadcast. Start streaming from OBS and check the YouTube Live Control Room for the incoming feed and stream health. Confirm audio, picture, and motion before you share the stream with viewers.
A stream key is a credential, not a public link. Do not post it in a screenshot, chat, or public document. If it is exposed, reset it in YouTube’s Live Control Room and replace the old key in OBS; YouTube explains stream-key management in its live stream settings guide.

OBS settings to try first on a low-end PC
Resolution, frame rate, and video bitrate
YouTube’s current H.264 encoder guidance recommends the following video bitrates. These are YouTube ingestion recommendations, not a guarantee that a particular PC or connection can sustain them.
| Output to try | YouTube H.264 video bitrate guidance | Practical use |
|---|---|---|
| 480p, 30 fps | 3 Mbps recommended; 0.4 Mbps minimum | A sensible first trial on a weaker PC. |
| 720p, 30 fps | 8 Mbps recommended; 3 Mbps minimum | Try only after 480p30 is stable on both the PC and upload connection. |
| 720p, 60 fps | 8 Mbps recommended; 3 Mbps minimum | More demanding motion and frame-rate target; on a low-end PC, establish stability at 30 fps first. |
For these recommendations, use H.264, constant bitrate (CBR), and a two-second keyframe interval. YouTube says the keyframe interval should not exceed four seconds. Details and additional resolutions are in YouTube’s encoder settings and bitrate guidance.

- [Clear Output Voice] Cardioid condenser microphone for PC captures your voice properly, producing clear smooth and crisp sound. Great computer recording mic for gamers/streamers/youtubers focus on the main source and reduces background noise. The streaming microphone does the job well for broadcast ,OBS and teamspeak.
Allow about 20% upload headroom above the total stream bitrate rather than treating the full measured upload rate as available to OBS. If other devices share the connection, test while they are in normal use. A speed test is only a snapshot; stability during an actual stream matters too.

Encoder choice and PC workload
If OBS offers a compatible hardware encoder, try it: hardware encoding can move video-encoding work from the CPU to a specialized component in the GPU. The available options depend on the installed hardware and system support, so do not assume a particular encoder name will appear. Older hardware encoders can also trade image quality for performance. See the OBS hardware encoding guide.

- Positionable design: Pivot the mic in relation to the sound source to optimize your sound quality thanks to the adjustable desktop stand and track your voice in real time with no-latency monitoring
If OBS reports rendering or encoding overload, lower the output resolution or frame rate, simplify scenes, and reduce competing GPU work. OBS specifically recommends trying 30 fps if 60 fps is not working. A lighter scene and a lower output target often help more than repeatedly changing unrelated settings; see OBS encoding performance troubleshooting.
Tell dropped frames from encoding overload
These problems look similar to viewers, but point to different causes. Check OBS’s View > Stats window while streaming or testing, and use YouTube’s stream-health display to cross-check.

| What you see | Likely area to investigate | What to try |
|---|---|---|
| Network dropped frames or an unstable connection warning | Upload capacity, congestion, or the network route between the PC and YouTube. | Lower the bitrate, test again, and check whether the problem occurs at different times or on a different connection. OBS’s connection troubleshooting guide discusses dropped frames and dynamic bitrate. |
| Encoding or rendering lag; overloaded encoder | CPU/GPU workload, output resolution or frame rate, or scene complexity. | Reduce output demands, simplify the scene, close competing applications, or try a compatible hardware encoder. |
OBS’s dynamic bitrate option can lower bitrate during network congestion, which may help keep a stream connected, but OBS notes it does not fix the underlying connection problem and may reduce quality. A wired Ethernet connection is worth testing only if the current wireless link is unstable and both the PC and router support Ethernet; it cannot make an insufficient upload connection faster.
Common problems and fixes
OBS says it is live, but YouTube shows no incoming video
- Check that OBS is sending to the intended YouTube service and that the key matches the selected live stream.
- Re-enter the key if it may have been copied incorrectly. Do not share it publicly.
- Check the Live Control Room for the stream’s receiving status and health.
The stream starts but keeps dropping frames
- Check OBS Stats to determine whether frames are being dropped because of the network rather than encoding.
- Lower the bitrate and test upload stability again, allowing the recommended headroom.
- If possible, test a wired connection when wireless instability is suspected.
The picture freezes or OBS reports overload
- Lower resolution or frame rate; move from 60 fps to 30 fps if needed.
- Simplify scenes and disable unnecessary filters or animated sources.
- Try a compatible hardware encoder if one is available, then test the same content again.
The stream is stable in a simple test but not with the real scene
Use the real audio, scene changes, and motion during a private or otherwise suitable test. Add sources or effects one at a time; if performance fails after a specific change, remove or simplify that source before raising bitrate or resolution.

Copyright and YouTube live-stream rules
Before broadcasting, make sure you have the rights or permission needed for the video, music, and other material in the stream. A stream key only connects OBS to YouTube; it does not grant permission to broadcast copyrighted content. Review YouTube’s policies and the status shown in the Live Control Room before relying on a stream for public distribution.
Or let it run in the cloud
If the goal is a YouTube channel that stays live from uploaded videos, StreamNeo is an alternative to keeping OBS running on a low-end PC. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. StreamNeo loops uploaded videos from the cloud; it does not broadcast a camera feed.
- Your computer and home connection do not have to stay on for the cloud stream to keep running.
- Each slot streams the uploaded file as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot rather than quality tiers.
- It attempts automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream.
- The first day is free, with no card required. One free day is available per account.
Monthly: $9.99 per month. See StreamNeo for service details, or start the free first day.
