The steps are the same for creators in India as elsewhere: use the ingest URL and key YouTube displays for your event, and choose settings your computer and actual upload connection can sustain.
1. Check that your YouTube channel can go live
YouTube’s encoder workflow requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. Check eligibility and enable live streaming before planning the episode; first-time access may take time to become available. YouTube’s live streaming tips explain the requirements and preparation.

In YouTube Studio, create or schedule the event using the encoder workflow in Live Control Room. Keep the episode’s title, visibility and schedule consistent between the event you create and the stream you send from OBS.
2. Install OBS Studio on Ubuntu
The OBS Project’s Linux instructions cover Ubuntu 18.04 or newer and install OBS through its PPA and apt. Follow the current OBS Linux installation guide, which is the authority for the commands and repository setup as they may change. For non-Ubuntu distributions, OBS points users to Flathub.

On first launch, run the Auto-Configuration Wizard and choose streaming. OBS says the wizard takes hardware resources and network conditions into account; its result is a starting point, not a substitute for a real test on the connection you will use.
3. Build a podcast scene and check its audio
Choose a simple visual
Create a scene for the episode. An audio-first podcast can use a static cover image or title card as its visual; add a camera only if you want a live host on screen. OBS sources can include images, text, video capture, window or display capture, and media. Sources higher in the list appear over sources below them. Add recorded audio or segments
For a prerecorded intro or segment, add a Media Source and select the file. OBS documents common audio formats including MP3, AAC, OGG and WAV in its Media Sources guide. VLC playlists require VLC to be installed. Play each segment during the test to confirm it is audible and in the intended order.
Capture a live microphone without doubling it
For a live host, select a microphone using OBS global audio settings or add it as a scene audio source. Linux audio capture is documented in the OBS Audio Sources guide. If you add the device directly as a scene source, disable that same device in global Settings → Audio; capturing it both ways can duplicate the signal and cause echo. Speak at normal volume and watch the OBS audio mixer meters.

A microphone is not a software requirement: use the audio device already available to you and confirm OBS receives it. YouTube’s encoder setup guide describes typical hardware such as microphones, headsets, preamps and mixers, but does not require a particular brand or model: Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.
4. Connect OBS to the YouTube event
- Open the event’s Live Control Room. In YouTube Studio, open the scheduled or newly created encoder event and its stream settings.
- Copy the displayed stream URL and stream key. YouTube recommends RTMPS, a secure extension to RTMP. Use the URL shown for your event rather than guessing an ingest server; if entering a server manually, confirm it begins with
rtmps://, notrtmp://. Details are in YouTube’s RTMPS guide. - Enter the credentials in OBS. In OBS stream settings, choose the YouTube RTMPS service if offered, or use the manual server option and enter the RTMPS URL and key from Live Control Room. Labels can vary by OBS version; the values from your YouTube event are what matter.
- Protect the key. Treat it like a password. Do not show it in a scene, public document or screenshot. If it is exposed, replace or reset it through YouTube’s stream settings.
The official workflow does not establish a separate India-only OBS configuration or fixed regional ingest URL. For a stream from India, use the values YouTube gives your account and test the connection from the venue where you will broadcast.

5. Choose encoder settings that fit your connection
YouTube’s general encoder guidance supports H.264, H.265/HEVC and AV1 video, constant bitrate (CBR), a two-second keyframe interval (not exceeding four seconds), and AAC or MP3 audio. For stereo audio, YouTube recommends a 44.1 kHz sample rate. Refer to its current encoder settings, bitrates and resolutions when choosing output settings.

Use YouTube’s bitrate table as a starting point, not a guarantee of stability. Its example for 720p at 30 fps is 2 Mbps. YouTube advises testing upload speed and leaving roughly 20% headroom above the stream’s total bitrate; upload capacity can be lower than download capacity. A podcast with a static image usually has little visual motion, so a high frame rate may not add value. Choose a supported resolution and frame rate that suit the visual material and the tested connection. There is no single official setting specified for every audio-first podcast. If the connection struggles, lower the video bitrate or output quality and test again; do not set a bitrate that consumes nearly all available upload bandwidth.

- Make a short private or unlisted test. OBS strongly encourages a test before a first live stream. Confirm the preview looks right, the correct microphone is active, mixer levels respond, and any recorded segments play as expected.
- Prepare early. YouTube recommends preparing the encoder stream at least two hours before the event and starting the encoder at least 15 minutes before the scheduled time.
- Start sending the OBS feed. Wait for the preview to appear in Live Control Room. Check that the event’s watch page is accessible and inspect stream health before starting the scheduled event with YouTube’s Live Control Room controls.
- Monitor during the broadcast. Keep an eye on the OBS audio mixer and YouTube’s stream health, and listen for muted, doubled or distorted audio. Avoid changing the stream key or output settings mid-event unless needed to recover.
- End cleanly. End the event in YouTube and stop the encoder feed. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; do not rely on that rule for a longer broadcast.

7. Troubleshoot common failures
- OBS cannot connect: Check that the event is ready in Live Control Room, the copied URL and key belong to that event, and a manual server URL uses RTMPS. Re-enter the key privately if it may have been copied incorrectly.
- YouTube receives video but no podcast audio: Check that the intended media or microphone source is active, play the source, and watch the mixer meters. Confirm the output audio track is enabled. For microphone echo, remove duplicate global and scene-level capture of the same device.
- Audio clips or the stream drops: Check upload performance at the broadcast location, then reduce bitrate or output quality to leave more headroom. YouTube recommends about 20% headroom over total stream bitrate.
- The preview does not appear: Keep the encoder running while checking Live Control Room for connection and stream-health status. Verify the event and credentials, and allow time for the preview to populate before starting the scheduled event.
- A file or playlist will not play: Check that the media source points to the correct file and format. If using a VLC playlist, ensure VLC is installed.
